The Undead system -
Chapter 53: Path to power
Chapter 53: Path to power
The goblin villagers were forced to bow their heads, in fear of jack’s terrifying aura. Not only was he intimidating, but also ruthless and cold. Not hesitating to mercilessly kill any of them, that stepped out of line.
"Now, as king I have a few rules." He grinned visiously darting his eyes at them. Excitement evident in his face, enjoying the showcase of power against these weaklings.
All his life he’d been called the weak one, bullied, humiliated, but no more. The tables were turning, and he was going to get as strong as possible. No matter what it took.
"My first rule is this. Each of you will individually come forth one by one, and pledge allegiance to me as your new king." He declared to which they slightly nodded, compelled by this dominating aura.
"But I must warn you.. refusal or lying to me will only result in immediate death." He stated making their eyes contradict.
With that he dispersed his aura, lifting up the dominating pressure from them making them gasp. Panting in huge amounts of heavy air.
"Such terrifying aura and it wasn’t his full outburst."
"H-he’s not a creature but a monster."
"Forget that he’s now the king!"
"A-and he just made his first rule, failure resulting in death."
A smug grin spread across his face as he stood proudly, seeing this plan working. He didn’t want to outright claim dominance but instead, instill fear into their hearts. Breaking whatever low mental will they had left.
"Begin!" His voice echoed startling the goblin villagers. Their bodies visibly shaking in fear. None wanted to approach this omnious entity, but they knew their death was guaranteed if they didn’t.
"I-i pledge my allegiance to you. The new king." The first to come was a slender goblin, stark naked like the rest. With little fat his bones on display.
[Ding! You have successfully received 20 dominion points.]
The system notification popped up in his view, confirming the goblin’s truthfulness.
"Good.. you may leave." Jack casually waved to which the goblin bowed leaving. The next two to come also pledged allegiance, giving jack extra 40 dominion points.
"I pledge my allegiance." The female mother goblin from earlier plainly spoke. Her head bowed down a bit.
A frown formed on jack’s face, seeing the system notification didn’t pop up like expected. Indicating she was lying.
"Liar." He coldly spoke, appearing in her front forcefully snapping her neck killing her. Shock registered in her eyes during her last moments.
The crowd gasped shocked by jack’s ruthless and cold attitude. As he didn’t have any emotion his poker face, killing her like an animal.
"That will be the fate of those that rebel." He declared in a stern tone. Extinguishing whatever fire, the rest goblins that had planned to act fake out.
Waving his hands once more he gestured to begin again. The goblins coming forward, pledging allegiance with his dominion points increasing.
[+2400 dominion points.]
He’d ammased over 2000 more dominion points, meaning there were about a hundred or more goblins. Yuma counted.
’This is it, my path to greatness.’ Jack thought feeling his body stronger. Glancing at them once more, he declared out his next set of rules.
"The village is meant to be repaired within a weak and new guards are to be ordained. Also, you will salvage on whatever food you have stored here."
Another set of murmers and whispered erupted, with some goblins going as far as fainting.
"B-but there’s only so little food to go round." Yuma was the one to speak her head lowered.
"Exactly.. you have to prove your loyalty to me, by surviving on whatever little rations you have here for a week. Then I’ll think about increasing it." He said making their faces sour, like swallowing a bitter drug.
They were clearly upset and not ok with jack’s decision, but no one could question his authority.
"I’ll be leaving Yuma in charge to handle the affairs of the village until I return." He said, making Yuma’s eye go wide not expecting such.
"Me.. b-but why?" She stuttered confused.
"Don’t get too cocky, it’s only for a week till I return." He dismissed whatever high value reason she was thinking about. The lit up spark in her eyes dying off.
"And besides.. just call it an intuition." With that, he then gave out some other light commands.
First being they learnt how to plant, second being they erect more traps and defensive lines, to protect the village from attacks. Towards the spots he’d marked.
And last most important of all, was to train themselves in the art of fighting with whatever equipments they had left.
Having nothing else left to do here he turned, walking away. "Oh.. and don’t get any funny ideas or the consequences is death."
With that he left through the small cave behind, exiting outside to the small pond like waterfall.
"Phew.. that went as planned." He sighed in relief glad it was all over.
’Rumble!’ The ground shook a bit with the open entrance sliding shut. Instilling the idea it was never there to begin with.
’Lead the way master.’ Jack smiled earning some light praises from his system. He decided to check the rewards he gained later. He was extremely weak and would collapse any moment now, if he didn’t rest.
[Of course student.. you’ve done exceptionally well today, master is proud] the system said in a wise tone like an ancient grandmaster.
With the guidance of his system, jack navigated his way back to the small waterfall. Going into the small forest, void of any leaves on it’s branches. Replaced with spike branches.
There were some dark crows perched on the branches of the trees. Their eyes white and intimidating, a strange cold aura excluding from them.
"Nothing weird for sure." Jack chuckled not intimidated at all by these crows. Posing no threat to him whatsoever.
’He’s improving rapidly just like I’d anticipated.’ One of the crows thought, it’s eyes fixed on jack. Staring intently with a hint of anticipation.
’The stars are aligning young one. Your future awaits.’ With that the crow flapped it’s wing, and like a signal the other crows responded. Flapping their wings frantically, leaping up in the air with a power jump.
"Jeez.. what’s with them?" Jack frowned seeing them suddenly go berserk. Flapping their wings about, propelling their small bodies to the sky with a powerful leap. Flying away in a coordinated pattern.
Shrugging jack shook his head a bit. It wasn’t a normal sight to behold, but as long as they didn’t interfere with his business he was cool.
Walking some more miles his steps were sluggish, and his vision blurry a bit. His body was breaking down from his injuries, both internal and external sustained.
’How much longer master, I-i don’t think I can hold up more.’ His voice though playful was weak, containing little life in it. He was being overwhelmed, not by a strong foe but his own fatigue.
[Be patience young one. The journey to the path of power is rough and treacherous, filled with many obstacles to test your will. You must preserve and hold on till the end] the system dropped some wise words on jack, like a sprinkle of water in a dry desert.
Gritting his teeth jack struggled through the looming exhaustion, fighting hard to stay awake. His mind, body was shutting down, but he fought the urge.
....
In front, kilroi village could be seen just a couple of meters ahead. It’s citizens going about their daily businesses, moving back and forth. Little children foxes, orcs, and cyclops pranced about. Indulging in different games, that would seem too extreme for normal human kids.
"Where is he?" Karrie pouted moving about, worry written all over her face. It was getting late now, with no signs of jack arriving. And this was the second day he’d been gone.
She was thinking about heading out to search for him, when a voice pierced the air.
"The village chief is back!" The voice shouted, blowing onto a strange horn. Which resounded loudly in the village, alerting everyone of jack’s return.
"He’s back!" Karrie’s eye lit up as she wagged her tail excitedly. Before anyone could react she blazed out of his room, where she’d been staying for the past two days. What she did no one expect her knew..
Moving swiftly, she made her way to the exit of the town. Her eyes excitedly searching for jack. And soon, a figure could be seen approaching in front. It’s steps sluggish and stuff like a zombie.
"Chief!" She shouted with joy rushing over to him.
"What happened?" She asked but received no response. He instead collapsed on her, sending them both to the ground. Jack on top of Karrie.
"I-i made it~" A light smile formed on his lips which faded, along with his vision. His body forcefully shutting down to sleep and rest, to recover his lost energy.
"C-chief." Karrie stuttered in shock. Tints of red were spotted on her cheeks, blushing profusely.
