Chapter 98: Chapter 98: A Storm Is Brewing
"Get lost! You think you can meddle in my business?" Leo barked. Seeing Delphine shielding that woman, he sneered, "That dog Jocelyn has been hiding all these days, and he only dares to send you out here. Today, I’ll beat his mother to death and see if he dares to show his face."
Delphine’s expression shifted. Thinking back to the news reports, she immediately understood that the unconscious woman was Jocelyn’s biological mother. After Jocelyn became entangled in scandals, he left the Yeager Family. She couldn’t fathom whether Leo had taken leave of his senses or had some vendetta, but he was laying hands on a sick person, and she just happened to stumble upon the scene.
"I’ve already called the police. Even in the Southlands, your Yeager Family can’t cover up the sky on their own. Don’t push your luck." Catching sight of the driver finishing his call and rushing over, Delphine felt a little more assured. She raised her eyes, coldly looking at the eldest son of the Yeager Family.
Leo was still consumed by anger. Since Jocelyn resigned from his position at Yeager Enterprises and disappeared, it had been the classic unresolved vendetta: "weed not eradicated will grow again when the spring wind blows." Upon learning Jocelyn’s biological mother was staying at a psychiatric hospital in the Suburban Outskirts, Leo immediately summoned his men to seize her. Now, seeing Delphine walk straight into his trap, his mind drifted to the ambiguous, muddled relationship between her and Jocelyn. Deciding to go all out, he instructed his men, "Tie this woman up too, rough her up a bit, take some footage, and send it to that bastard Jocelyn."
"What are you doing? This is Miss Delphine from the Leclair Estate," the driver stepped forward and warned.
"Pah!"
The scene instantly descended into chaos. Delphine was shoved aside, falling to the ground. As she saw the driver being beaten, she instinctively scrambled to her feet and used her body to shield Jocelyn’s unconscious mother.

A horde of reporters suddenly appeared out of nowhere, wielding cameras and snapping photos endlessly, with some even livestreaming the scene.
"Damn it, where did these reporters come from?"
"Smash all the cameras!"
Leo’s voice rang out, furious and out of control.
The chaos intensified. In the disorder, Delphine felt herself being kicked multiple times by someone, and she noticed Leo’s men starting to smash the recording equipment. As one of them seemed to be aiming straight at her, her eyes widened and she instinctively shut them tightly.
This year really was cursed for her.
The expected pain did not arrive. Delphine opened her eyes and saw a man shielding her with his body. His face was pale, and he offered her a faint smile before whispering hoarsely, "Delphine."
Blood trickled down Jocelyn’s forehead, dripping onto the dark gravel roadway.
"Someone’s been beaten to death! Someone’s been beaten to death!"
A shrill scream pierced through the scene.
Delphine’s face turned even paler than Jocelyn’s. She reached out to support him as his body collapsed against hers. Her entire body was cold. Staring at the mother and son who now lay unconscious and gravely injured, she turned her gaze to the chaos around them—the spoiled brats perpetrating the violence, the exploitative paparazzi, and the pervasive metallic scent of blood. She wanted to ask Jocelyn—why did he come out, why did he take that blow for her?
She parted her lips but found herself unable to say a single word.
Someone called for emergency medical help, and someone alerted the police. By the time the doctors and officers arrived, Leo and his group had already fled. Numbly, Delphine climbed into the ambulance, wordlessly watching over the comatose mother and son.
The assault at the Suburban Outskirts, the group brawl—it only took an hour for the story to make it into the Southlands Evening News. Video fragments flooded the internet and livestreaming platforms.
Jocelyn and his mother were both rushed into the emergency room, while Delphine waited with the injured reporters in line at the outpatient clinic for treatment of her wounds.
When Ignatius Leclair received the news, his face instantly darkened. He gave a cold command: "Investigate."
