Chapter 96: Chapter 96: The Unignorable Possessiveness

After Kyla Zamora heard the news, she quickly contacted the photographer of Z Fashion Magazine, then arrived at the Leclair residence early the next morning to pick up Delphine.

Z Magazine is one of the top three renowned magazines in the fashion industry, with extremely high standards for its covers. They exclusively use A-list celebrities. Considering Delphine’s current status, it’s easy to imagine the discussions that will arise once the news gets out.

When Kyla arrived, Delphine had already finished her breakfast. She wore a simple pleated linen dress, her long hair cascading in soft curls like seaweed, her features delicate and radiant like jade. Sitting by the fireplace, her gaze was subdued, and her demeanor carried not even a trace of joy.

Kyla couldn’t quite understand. The young girl she was mentoring possessed astonishingly beautiful features, lived in a residence that everyone in Southeast Asia coveted, and had a boyfriend whose power was unparalleled. Yet, there wasn’t the slightest hint of happiness—or even desire—in her.

For a long time, Delphine Carter had left Kyla with the impression of someone devoid of joy, devoid of wants or needs.

Seeing Kyla arrive, the girl sitting by the fire promptly stood up. She offered a faint, practically imperceptible smile, grabbed her small handbag, and walked over.

Kyla was about to speak when she saw a man descending the staircase—handsome to the point of intimidation, with a perpetual air of cold severity.

Kyla immediately fell silent, deliberately minimizing her presence. The man came down, wrapped an arm around the young girl, and lowered his head to kiss her deeply for a moment. He was cold and aloof; she was pale and delicate. The scene was silent yet breathtakingly beautiful. Kyla felt as though she was being subjected to a cruel display of affection, awkwardly standing by the entrance, waiting for Ignatius Leclair to bid farewell to her young companion.

After lingering for two minutes, Ignatius leaned down, murmured a few words to Delphine, then let her go. His eyes lifted to catch sight of the uninvited "light bulb" in the room. Cold as a blade, his gaze made Kyla’s eyes widen in shock; she almost fled out the door.

It was only after she got Delphine into the car that Kyla’s racing heart began to return to normal. Unable to hold back, she commented, "Delphine, Mr. Leclair seems very fond of you."

At these words, Delphine’s eyes flickered with an unexplainable light. Glancing at her manager, who was almost ten years her senior, she guessed that Kyla had caught sight of the earlier scene. Calmly, she asked, "Why do you say that?"

Since her injury, Ignatius’s attitude toward her had indeed changed somewhat. Delphine understood this to an extent, but the dynamic between them was still different from their covert relationship five years prior. She knew well how Ignatius treated women when he cared about them. Now, it was nothing more than a hint of pity. Yet, such emotions were utterly insignificant in the face of profound conflicts, resentment, and the burdens of self-interest.

The Leclair Family’s internal relationships were extraordinarily complex. Ignatius’s unresolved issues with her mother, the existence of young Jules—these problems remained even if he chose not to address them for now. Knowing all this, she never dared to reveal even the slightest trace of her true feelings in his presence.

If he was willing to dote on her, she accepted it. If he wasn’t, she could also peacefully move on and live her life as usual.

Kyla was left somewhat speechless by Delphine’s question. After all, she knew nothing about Ignatius Leclair. It was simply the man’s behavior toward Delphine—like she was a possession he held—that carried a faint but unmistakable air of dominance.

"I can’t really explain it; it’s just a feeling. Recently, Mr. Leclair specifically approached me about your career plans," Kyla said in a lowered voice. "Getting this cover for Z Magazine smoothly wasn’t just about my connections—it was also borrowing some of the prestige."

Kyla naturally didn’t dare to explicitly ride on Ignatius’s influence. Yet, in an industry where no secret stays hidden for long, Kyla’s determined demeanor, combined with the earlier news about Theodore Hughes’s film project and the studio’s one-billion-dollar investment, was enough for anyone to trace back the connections. Such a backing wasn’t something just anyone could have. As a result, securing the Z Magazine cover was far easier than Kyla had initially anticipated.

Looking at Delphine, Kyla hesitated before finally giving in to her curiosity. "Delphine, are you really not involved with the third son of the Yeager Family?"

Delphine paused for a moment, then asked, "Did something happen to Jocelyn Yeager?"
