Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Crew Wraps Up Filming, Photos of Peak Beauty Leaked
Jocelyn Yeager smiled, nodded lightly, and said softly, "Alright. Delphine, you too — if someone bullies you, fight back."
The first time Jocelyn saw Delphine Carter, fifteen-year-old Delphine was wearing a faded blue plaid dress. Bessie Leclair, the little princess of the Leclair Family, led a group of girls her age and surrounded Delphine on the lawn. They mocked her mercilessly, shoved her to the ground, pulled her hair, and pinched her cheeks.
The fifteen-year-old girl simply climbed back up silently, patted the dirt off her clothes, and limped away. Back then, Delphine was as thin as a bean sprout, with only a small pointed face and dazzlingly dark eyes that seemed capable of illuminating even the parts of the South Seas darker than the night.
Delphine smiled faintly. How foolish she had been back then. Over the years, she had lost too much, left with nothing, and in turn, she became fearless. She no longer wanted to endure. Her personality turned defiant and extreme, cold and detached, unlikable. Delphine Carter had never been a particularly likable person. The only one in this world who had ever loved her — her grandmother — had passed away many years ago. Now, she had nothing she couldn’t afford to lose.
After leaving the hospital, Delphine went straight to the film set, diving headfirst into filming *Ethereal*. She lived, ate, and slept there, working tirelessly without rest.
The director had never met an actress who worked so hard, was so beautiful, and so gifted. He was quite fond of Delphine. Initially, she only had 20 minutes of screen time, but by the end, he added two additional flashback scenes for her, altering the arc of the script. This transformed her role from a disposable supporting character into someone with an unexpectedly significant presence in the film.
The conclusion of *Ethereal* tells the story of a noble scion, Banquet Sheng, who gathers the eccentric talents of the Nine Provinces to overthrow tyranny, thereby achieving a brief era of peaceful coexistence between humans and spirits. Banquet Sheng becomes the widely renowned Heavenly Punisher of the Nine Provinces. Using the agarwood bead, he mends Ethereal’s shattered soul and then returns to the Kingdom of Mulberry. Beneath an ancient thousand-year-old tree, he reminisces about the innocent young girl, Lüzhu, as pure as snowfall, full of sorrow, before choosing to retreat into the mountains with Ethereal.
This revision to the script rendered the ending even more enigmatic. Tristan, famously known for his genius and penchant for rewriting scripts, thoroughly enjoyed sparking discussions. Even Delphine herself found the ending bizarre upon seeing it.
On the same day, the production team released a set of promotional stills on their official account. Among them was one striking photo of Lüzhu dressed in red, standing amidst a vast snowy expanse, watching the man she loves stride into the distance.
In the film, Lüzhu had only three outfits: a white ruqun, a green ceremonial gown, and most stunningly, the final red ensemble. A red so vibrant it resembled bridal wear, yet as frigid as dried blood. After seeing her love leave, she is buried in the endless snow, a scene of unparalleled tragic beauty.
The moment the stills were released, they garnered over a thousand shares and tens of thousands of comments within ten minutes.
"The girl in red is breathtaking; please tell me her name!"
"Damn, I could stare at this forever."
"Having read the original novel, I can confirm that the girl’s death is heartbreakingly tragic. T_T Supporting actress, I beg for redemption!"
"Reporting in as a face-chaser! Waiting eagerly for the film to debut."
"She’s mine — nobody else fight me for her."
"Damn, she’s clearly my wife. Screen-lickers, get lost."
"The person upstairs is shameless."
"The girl plays Lüzhu in the film — you’re welcome."
After ten days of filming, Delphine’s role wrapped up. Even before *Ethereal* aired, it was already attracting buzz. The character of Lüzhu, portrayed by Delphine, gained significant attention due to the promotional stills. Yet, Delphine, not having a social media account, remained completely unaware of this. Instead, her agent, Jason, spent his days mysteriously grinning at his phone, occasionally asking the production team for additional stills of Delphine.
