Chapter 209: Chapter 209: When my elder brother brings Melody Cloud back, you get the hell out of the Li residence immediately.
Ignatius Leclair had been missing for only a few days when Griffith Squire called to say that Leah’s condition had stabilized. However, she couldn’t be moved yet, and they would need to stay in Switzerland for observation for another month.
Delphine finally felt a bit relieved. On one hand, she took care of the two little kittens Leah had left behind, and on the other, she started preparing to return to work.
As for what had happened at Bessie Leclair’s engagement banquet, there wasn’t a single whisper of gossip from South Asia. It passed by quietly, without a trace.
Following the success of "Twin Flowers" at the box office, Delphine finally received her share of the earnings.
Kyla Zamora personally brought a bank card to her, finding Delphine near the wine cellar playing with the kittens. Pushing the card into her hand, Kyla cheerfully said, "An entire ten million. This is your cut of the profits."
"That much?" Delphine was momentarily stunned. She had never seen so much money in her life.
"It’s not that much, really. Mr. Leclair invested a hundred million in the film, and he ended up earning five hundred million. What you got here is just a fraction." Kyla, who had also received a hefty bonus, was practically walking on air as of late.
The only part Kyla couldn’t understand was why it was her job to hand over the money. After all, this was Mr. Leclair’s investment, and he had final say in how the money was distributed. Even though they lived in the same house, why was she, of all people, asked to deliver it?
This was just how things worked among the powerful and privileged families—always about rules and appearances.
"Oh, by the way, the studio’s just been renovated, and we’ve hired some talented behind-the-scenes staff. Do you want to go take a look?" The studio team had grown substantially by now, but since Delphine rarely made appearances, most of the staff hadn’t met her.
"No need. You handle it," Delphine said calmly. "I’ve been thinking about getting back to work. Are there any good scripts available?"
After shooting another project, by next spring, she wanted to go abroad for further studies. That night, what Ignatius Leclair had said still echoed in her mind, leaving her somewhat uneasy. If what he claimed were true, both she and her mother would never manage to leave the Leclair Family.
Looking at it that way, his decision to cast her out years ago could almost be called merciful.
Delphine chuckled coldly to herself, deciding she’d take the roundabout path to freedom. She’d earn money, pursue her studies abroad, and take life one step at a time.
"There happens to be a major female-led historical romance script—it’s based on a popular IP adaptation, though it’s a TV drama," Kyla said, her eyes lighting up as she studied Delphine’s delicate and refined features. She slapped her thigh in excitement. "I’ll get in touch with the production team for you!"
Delphine nodded.
The TV drama Kyla referred to was an adaptation of the currently trending IP, *The Official Daughter’s Wish*. After sending Kyla on her way, Delphine scooped up the two tiny kittens and settled onto the soft lambswool-covered recliner in the courtyard to read the original novel.
The two kittens were especially clingy and well-behaved. After eating their fill, they stretched out on their backs and napped lazily at Delphine’s feet under the warm sunlight.
Just as Delphine was engrossed in the book, Bessie Leclair came strutting in, balancing on seven-inch heels and loaded down with bags upon bags of luxury goods. She had made a deliberate detour to approach Delphine, sneering as she said, "I heard my brother’s sick of you now?"
Bessie had been in an excellent mood lately. Since being discharged from the hospital, Ignatius Leclair had been gone for days and clearly didn’t care about this little wretch anymore. Bessie had immediately moved back into the Leclair estate.
Delphine glanced up at her briefly but remained silent.
"Playing it cool, huh? News from the UK broke two days ago. Oh, right—you probably didn’t know my brother went to the United Kingdom, did you?" Bessie sneered coldly, tossing a stack of newspapers out of her bag and into Delphine’s lap. She arrogantly taunted, "When my brother comes back with Melody, you’d better get out of the Leclair estate immediately."
Delphine’s gaze sharpened as she looked at the newspaper. It featured extensive coverage: A former political figure and his stunning companion return to their alma mater, sparking rumors of impending nuptials.
In the photograph, the man was handsome and dignified, his usually aloof expression softened by a trace of tenderness as he gazed down at the woman beside him.
