Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Tonight, Be Cautious with Everything
Not long after entering Squire Manor, Leah was called away by Griffith, and Delphine was about to find a quiet place when she ran directly into Jocelyn Yeager holding a champagne glass.
Jocelyn gave her a slight smile, his handsome face brimming with charm, and said softly, "You look beautiful today."
Delphine returned a faint smile and instinctively glanced around, not spotting Ignatius Leclair anywhere. Only then did she ask, "How’s your injury? I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit you."
"It’s much better now." A flicker of deep emotion flashed in Jocelyn’s eyes. He naturally understood why Delphine hadn’t gone to the hospital to see him. Unfortunately, though he had toppled Leo Yeager, he hadn’t succeeded in creating a rift between Delphine and Ignatius Leclair.
Ignatius’s controlling nature was too strong; Jocelyn never expected a single incident to achieve his goal.
"You’ve returned to the Yeager Family." Delphine lifted her gaze toward Jocelyn, speaking in a tone of certainty. The miserable state Leo Yeager had been in three days ago was still fresh in her mind. Now, seeing Jocelyn attending the banquet, it seemed that after the scandal of being an illegitimate son, Jocelyn had firmly secured his place within the Yeager Family.
"Just lucky." Jocelyn smiled handsomely, his eyes glinting with confidence. Catching sight of Bessie Leclair leading Yvonne Wade and others over, he frowned slightly and whispered, "Be careful tonight."
Delphine’s heart shifted, and Jocelyn had already stepped back a few paces.
"Brother Jocelyn, I accidentally twisted my ankle just now. Could you accompany me to apply some medicine?" Bessie, supported by Yvonne, walked over, her lovely face looking both pitiful and expectant as she gazed at Jocelyn.
Jocelyn glanced at Delphine before nodding.
Bessie eagerly clung to his arm, leaning her full weight into Jocelyn’s embrace. Her peripheral vision caught Delphine, and a trace of malicious smugness flickered in her cold smile.
As Bessie and Jocelyn walked away, Delphine avoided the group of young socialites led by Yvonne Wade and entered the restroom. After waiting for nearly ten minutes and assuming these society girls had found something else to amuse themselves with, she finally stepped out.
As soon as she emerged, a dark shadow suddenly collided with her. Delphine was pushed back several steps, her waist striking the sharp corner of the wall, igniting a searing pain.
She furrowed her brows, her cold eyes landing on Yvonne Wade standing three steps away, outside the restroom. Yvonne was fixing her lipstick, snapped the compact mirror shut with a sharp "snap," and shot Delphine an artificial smirk. "Next time, watch where you’re going. You can’t afford the compensation if you bump into someone with your penniless demeanor."
"Yvonne, look at her bag; it’s filled with cheap trinkets—it’s laughable." The woman who had collided with Delphine quickly picked up her purse, dumped its contents upside down onto the floor, and mocked, "Dare to attend a banquet with this? I bet even that outfit must be borrowed!"
"It has to be borrowed! Bessie said she’s still staying at the Leclair Residence. She’s utterly shameless," one of the society girls gathered around Yvonne sneered jealously.
A disgraced pauper living under the Leclair Family’s roof and spending time with the Crown Prince every day—it was infuriating just thinking about it.
Ignoring their taunts, Delphine clutched her waist, her tone indifferent as she said, "Give me back my bag."
Among these women, some faces were unfamiliar to Delphine; she could only recognize Yvonne Wade, the eldest Miss of the Wade Family. Yvonne had played with Bessie Leclair since childhood. Nowadays, Bessie had grown shrewder, choosing not to confront Delphine directly but instead ordering these women to trip her up. However, Delphine had never paid attention to such petty squabbles between socialites.
"What a heap of garbage." Yvonne shot a disdainful look at the items scattered on the floor before saying in a syrupy voice, "Let’s go."
A group of women instantly swayed their hips, their arrogance palpable, and left behind nothing but a mess.
Delphine crouched down and started picking up the scattered items on the floor, piece by piece.
A pair of long, strong hands with distinct knuckles picked up a lip gloss and notebook from the ground and handed them to her.
