Chapter 92: Chapter 092: Rude

"Hey, guys, you arrived pretty early!" Wu Tian, driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee, rolled down the window and greeted Wang Bo, who was closest to him.

"Ah? Just got here early because I heard the news," replied Wang Bo, which served as his response.

"Can you move your car a bit? We want to drive directly to the east side to cast our lines, and your current setup is kinda in the way!"

Upon hearing the word "in the way," Wang Bo shook his head: "Can’t go through there, it gets too steep beyond this point, and we’ve already set up our camp. We can’t just pack up everything to make space for you! There are plenty of fishing spots inside, why not park outside and carry your gear in?"

Wu Tian didn’t anticipate that Wang Bo would be so unyielding and the look of disappointment flashed across his face, hesitating for two seconds before saying, "Fine, we’ll leave it outside."

Neither of the two vehicles even made the motion of moving to the side, just turning off their engines then and there. Soon after, Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang got out of their cars and began unloading their fishing gear.

The two of them hardly spoke while unloading the gear, and once they carried it a good few dozen meters away, Zhang Qiang began to grumble under his breath: "Damn, a few guys have taken up all this great space; should’ve come earlier."

Wu Tian: "Stop complaining, let’s just find a spot to settle in. Forget the tent, if it comes down to it, we’ll sleep in the car."

"Alright!"

Their consensus was quickly reached, and they soon picked a spot by the water beyond Hua Jian to the east to start fishing.

Lin Yang casually glanced at the spot Zhang Qiang and the other guy had chosen and shook his head slightly.

The entire area enjoyed decent fish activity, only the one picked by those two unfortunate souls was not so great.

He had scouted the area last night and had a rough idea of the terrain; the spot they had chosen was filled with large rocks below the surface, definitely devoid of big fish, though there were plenty of small, miscellaneous ones.

If the two had been acquaintances, Lin Yang might have given them a tip.

But since he didn’t get along with Zhang Qiang, he preferred not to get involved, opting not to remind them.

As time passed, the temperature gradually climbed, and there was still no movement from the long poles, while the activity of the Crucian Carps on the short poles also slowed down—the morning feeding peak had passed.

Not far off, Wang Bo and Tai were in the same boat, not having caught a big fish yet.

"The bites are getting sparser, could it be the bait pile is exhausted?"

"I just checked another live streamer’s channel; he arrived early too and is still catching steadily. The Crucian Carp are biting well there."

"With such a high fish density in the reservoir, they shouldn’t stop biting. Maybe we should add more bait?"

As the bites slowed, the viewers were even more anxious than Lin Yang, offering various pieces of advice.

Before he could make a decision, from about twenty to thirty meters away, the noise of splashing as they threw in balls of bait indicated that Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang were starting to bait their spots.

Seeing the newcomers also replenishing their bait, Lin Yang spoke, "It’s my first time at Qinglong Lake Reservoir, and I’m not very clear on the fish situation. How about I add some bait and see if it makes a difference, and try to figure out the cause."

He took some bait pellets from his rod bag and fired another half a jin of rice wine into the mix.

It wasn’t even ten minutes after laying down the bait that the bites came again!

The catches of large Crucian Carps accelerated, and he was soon catching one after another.

They say there’s no fixed method in fishing; adaptability is key. Lin Yang now had a deeper understanding of this saying.

With high fish density in the reservoir, half a jin of bait would be quickly consumed; without bait, the fish won’t stay, hence no bites.

After deducing the situation firsthand, Lin Yang took out a few more bags of bait and some rice wine along with old crock corn, and replenished each person’s fishing spot with a new round of bait.

They weren’t catching many big fish, but all three Crucian Carp spots were instantly successful, speeding up the action.

Since they weren’t catching anything with the long poles, they naturally also used short poles to catch Crucian Carps.

"See, the effect of replenishing the bait is showing. I wasn’t wrong, was I?"

"If you want to land the fish, you’ve got to trade with food. I wonder if the streamer had prepared enough bait."

"The streamer himself sells rice wine, so for bait, he must have definitely brought enough for fishing in the reservoir."

Indeed, Lin Yang had brought an ample supply of bait, including no less than ten bottles of various kinds of rice wine and at least forty to fifty pounds of bait in a box.

As for the corn used for catching big fish, he brought two boxes, which was more than enough for fishing for three to five days in the reservoir area.

Right after he had replenished the bait, the rumbling of a car engine approached.

Lin Yang turned his head and saw two somewhat familiar white cars appearing by the road. It was none other than his Uncle Yang Xincheng’s Bora and Li Xiaopeng’s Fit.

The two found their way there, guided by the location Wang Bo had posted in the group chat.

Seeing that his uncle and cousin had arrived, it was only polite for Lin Yang to greet them. He mentioned to his viewers in the live stream that he would step away, left his rod, and walked over to greet them.

They saw each other every day, so there wasn’t much need for pleasantries.

However, Yang Xincheng and Wang Bo Tai had never met offline, so naturally, Lin Yang gave them a proper introduction.

Once they were familiar with each other, Yang Xincheng and Li Xiaopeng parked their car, unloaded their equipment, and without continuing to move deeper, found a spot next to Wang Bo’s group to start fishing.

"Xiao Yang, how’s the fishing here, how many have you caught?" After Yang Xincheng had finished setting up his spot, he strolled over to Lin Yang and casually asked.

Lin Yang grinned and replied, "Not bad, have caught some already. Hurry and bait your spot, as long as you don’t stop baiting, they’ll keep biting."

"Really? I took time off work to come here today. If I don’t break even, you’re gonna have to compensate me," Yang Xincheng joked.

"No problem!"

"You try first. If the bait and fermented rice you brought aren’t enough, I have plenty here, just come and get it."

"Alright, I’ll give it a try first. If it’s not enough, I’ll come and get it!"

After getting a preliminary grasp of the fishing strategy in this reservoir, Yang Xincheng and his companion also entered a mode where they were getting bites quickly.

While they were enjoying themselves, Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang, who had arrived earlier, were not having much success.

Wu Tian only caught a few small Crucian Carps, and Zhang Qiang was faring even worse. Apart from tiny miscellaneous fish, he hadn’t caught anything, and it was almost mid-morning.

"Something’s not right, Brother Tian, maybe our spot isn’t so good? Look, whether new or old, everyone else is catching fish," Zhang Qiang said, covering his face with a sun-shading scarf and pointing in Lin Yang’s direction.

Wu Tian turned to look and observed for a while, "Might be. How about we also move, go over there, and fish next to them! The bait and fishing ground surely aren’t the problem, the issue is almost certainly with the spot..."

After a moment’s thought, Zhang Qiang braced himself and said, "Let’s do it then, let’s move to the west."

They had finally found a decent area; they certainly weren’t willing to settle for catching so few fish.

Soon, Wang Bo’s group saw the two guys coming over with their tackle boxes and rod bags, not even bothering to say hello before plopping themselves down in the empty seats.

"Hey, what’s the deal here, guys?" Wang Bo couldn’t help but ask.

It wasn’t a problem for them to come over and fish, but sitting down without a greeting was a bit impolite.

"No deal, the bites were poor on the east side, so we just changed spots," Wu Tian replied matter-of-factly.

"This spot doesn’t work, move to the side, I need to save this spot in front of me for sea rods!" Wang Bo denied them firmly.

Hearing this, Wu Tian frowned, looked around, and then asked, "But I don’t see your sea rods?"

"They’re all in the car; haven’t had the chance to set them up yet. We brought our tents, planning to stay for several days, and I definitely intend to use the sea rods. Move over!"

With things said to that point, they naturally couldn’t shamelessly stay there. Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang grudgingly picked up their rods and moved on, heading east to an area near Hua Jian by Lin Yang.

There was about a ten-meter gap between each person—Lin Yang and Wang Bo with Li Xiaopeng sitting in the middle. If two more people squeezed in, even if no one said anything, Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang would feel uncomfortable.

It felt like they were fishing in a crowded fishing hole, where chaos would ensue if a big fish was hooked.

"Damn! Let’s just stay here, it’s nearly noon and I haven’t even started," Wu Tian cursed under his breath, his gaze sweeping over Lin Yang and the phone set up next to him.

He recognized Lin Yang, of course, but Lin Yang did not recognize him, so he chose to sit directly between Lin Yang and Li Xiaopeng.

He also noticed that the fish activity was slightly better on Lin Yang’s side than the others’.

Lin Yang was in the middle of a livestream and glanced at the two men. Instead of making a fuss about Zhang Qiang and the other guy’s behavior, he continued fishing.

Seeing that Wu Tian and Zhang Qiang had to bait their new spots, Lin Yang followed suit and baited his own spot again.

"Geez, that guy next to me is kind of annoying, he doesn’t even say hello before baiting so close," someone commented in the live chat.

"Exactly, so rude. That kind of person is unwelcome wherever they go."

"The host is just too easy-going, I wouldn’t let him bait next to me. We were having a good run, and now we stop getting bites because of him."

Lin Yang saw the teasing from his online friends in the barrage and smiled, "It definitely affects the fishing, but there’s no need to get worked up about it. While we’re waiting for the bites to pick up, I’ll change the bait on my long rod—speaking of which, I’ve only caught one Bream this morning, why aren’t the big ones biting?"

After saying that, he raised his long rod and changed the corn bait.

Corn bait doesn’t disperse in the water, and if it’s not constantly nibbled on by small fish, it might not need changing all day.

But corn has a scent, and if it’s soaked for too long, the smell fades, which similarly affects the baiting rate.

Having replaced the corn with fresh ones, he cast it out again and patiently waited.

The fish had temporarily stopped biting, but this did not affect the laid-back chat among the friends in the livestream. They went on a ruthless tirade about the recent uncouth behavior next to them, and it was a good thing that Zhang Qiang and Wu Tian weren’t in the chat room, or they would have been drowned in virtual spit.
