Chapter 724: Chapter 304: The Giant Mola Mola

"I’d better call an ambulance. Food poisoning can be mild or severe. It’s better to be cautious,"

Having seen that several people had been enduring for half an hour without resolving the issue, Lin Yang immediately stopped hesitating and dialed 000.

If this vomiting and diarrhea keep up, people could become faint or even dehydrated. It can’t be delayed.

In Australia, whether it’s a fire brigade, an ambulance, or a traffic accident, you call 000 for emergency services.

Having briefly explained the situation and the location, Lin Yang left the washroom, where the smell truly was not at all pleasant.

After a while, the ambulance arrived, and somehow they managed to get everyone out of the washroom. Yue’er, on the other hand, walked out slowly on her own.

The ambulance soon reached the local hospital, and several people were taken into the emergency room.

Lin Yang then went to complete the necessary procedures and also registered himself, as he had also experienced mild symptoms and thought it best to get checked by a doctor.

"You’re suffering from food poisoning. Did you eat anything unusual today?"

The doctor asked Lin Yang.

"What we ate in the morning and evening should have been fine. It’s just that we had quite a lot for lunch, including grouper, lobster, sea cucumber... those kinds of things,"

He answered truthfully and listed everything he had eaten that day.

"So much seafood? And grouper too? How big was the grouper?"

Seemingly picking up on something from Lin Yang’s words, the doctor asked again.

"It was about thirty or forty jin I guess."

"That big, then it’s very likely you’ve been poisoned by ciguatoxin."

"It’s that stuff!"

"We can’t be sure now. We need to check to confirm it, but it’s very likely to be that stuff,"

Lin Yang then cooperated with the doctor for a check-up, but the result showed nothing. It was as if he wasn’t poisoned by the food at all.

However, as the other people’s check-up results came out, the doctor confirmed that they indeed had ciguatoxin poisoning.

Ciguatoxin is a large-molecule polyether neurotoxin produced by various benthic dinoflagellates, like certain types of algae, and is extremely toxic, 100 times more powerful than the toxin in river pufferfish, and one of the more serious known harmful algal bloom toxins.

This toxin is colorless, tasteless, lipophilic, insoluble in water, heat-resistant, and not easily destroyed by stomach acid. It’s primarily found in the viscera and muscles of coral reef fish, especially in high concentrations in the viscera.

However, this toxin doesn’t harm the fish. As fish consume toxic algae, the toxin slowly accumulates in their bodies. The larger the fish, the more toxin accumulates.

After humans consume fish that contain ciguatoxin, they show symptoms of poisoning. Mild cases cause vomiting and diarrhea, while severe cases affect the nervous system and can be fatal.

However, the number of fish that carry ciguatoxin is extremely rare. Unless one is incredibly unlucky, it’s generally not consumed, and the odds of encountering it are much lower than the odds of getting hit by a car, probably just slightly higher than the chances of winning five million in a lottery.

Somehow, these individuals were either lucky or unlucky today to have eaten a fish that carried ciguatoxin.

Luckily, because the captain’s cooking methods were so distinctive, people didn’t eat much of the grouper, and the symptoms were not very serious.

It was just uncertain how the captain and his crew would fare, as Lin Yang recalled they hadn’t skimped on that big pot of grouper.

That morning, Lin Yang had felt regret that such a big grouper had been spoiled by the captain.

Now he was relieved. Fortunately, it was cooked by the captain, and everyone had eaten only a little. If everyone had devoured all the grouper, the consequences would have been unimaginable!

Fortunately, fortunately.

After the doctors’ treatment, although the vomiting and diarrhea had stopped, the ordeal left everyone quite weakened, and they decided to stay in the hospital.

With a grand gesture, Lin Yang announced that the club would cover the medical expenses, as the club always ensured to buy insurance for the travelers for safety reasons, and there might even be a chance for some compensation.

But that was something for the club staff to take care of.

With no issues, Lin Yang returned to the hotel.

The next day, Li Xiaopeng and the others were still in the hospital, looking weak. It was estimated that it would take a couple of days to recover fully, so they had to rest properly in the hospital.

Lin Yang, who had no issues, was somewhat restless and found another captain to go fishing at sea again.

Actually, it wasn’t impossible to fish from shore, but he couldn’t stop thinking about the Golden Spearfish shoal they had encountered the day before; if he could encounter them again, he might land a big one.

Unfortunately, despite spending a full day, Lin Yang couldn’t find any trace of the Golden Spearfish shoal.

He did come across several shoals of mackerel and big sea basses, but these were of no use when compared to the Golden Spearfish group, whether in terms of experience or other aspects; they were simply worlds apart.
