Chapter 600: Chapter 261: Let’s Call Him Xiong Da_2
Lin Yang started the live broadcast again and mustered the courage to open the door of the cabin.
The scenario of a terrifying escape did not unfold as expected, he glanced inside, only to find that the little bear’s chain was tied to a wooden post behind the door, and the little guy at the other end of the chain was currently lying in a nest of grass, sound asleep.
This scene exceeded their expectations, as well as the expectations of the viewers in the live-streaming room.
"Holy moly, is it asleep? Judging by the sound, it’s sleeping pretty soundly."
"Did the host get it wrong? Is this a wild bear? I feel like it’s not even as clever as the piglets at my grandma’s house in the countryside."
"It’s got some nerve, getting tied up and not giving a damn, still sleeping."
Lin Yang exchanged glances with Yue’er, whose expression finally relaxed upon seeing the situation.
"This little guy must have been wandering outside for a while. According to Uncle Victor, this type of bear cub was probably born last winter. Under normal circumstances, it should now be, at most, about five or six months old.
Normally, a bear cub this size would live with its mother bear, and only start living independently after reaching one and a half to two years old. However, clearly, this little guy has lost contact with its mother."
Lin Yang shared the information he had learned from Uncle Victor with the viewers in the live-streaming room, and clearly, these folks who usually loved to make a fuss were very interested in the story of the bear cub.
While they were still whispering, the bear’s snoring stopped, and it quickly lifted its head. Seeing Lin Yang and Yue’er at the door, it immediately lay down and started to growl softly.
The feeble body paired with this clearly underwhelming growl can be described with one word: adorably fierce.
"Xiong Da, be good and obedient, I and Brother Yang won’t bully you."
Yue’er comforted the bear with a gentle voice, placed the fresh fish she had brought next to the water basin, and pulled Lin Yang to retreat out of the cabin.
The position of the water basin was also near the entrance, so they could still see the general situation after coming out of the cabin. The two did not rush off and patiently observed the bear cub’s condition.
In Lin Yang’s expectation, the little guy must have been scared to death and would have been unlikely to eat the fish.
But this time, he was wrong.
The deadlock lasted less than thirty seconds, and the carefree bear cub quickly turned its attention to the fresh fish. In front of both them and the live camera, it swiftly ran to the side of the fish and began to eat voraciously.
Seeing the bear cub eat the fish, Lin Yang gained a deeper understanding of the phrase "wolf down."
Each fish, weighing about four or five pounds, was embraced with its paws and consumed noisily. In less than two minutes, the fish was completely devoured, not even the head with its hard-to-swallow bones was left behind.
The viewers in the live-streaming room exploded with excitement at Xiong Da’s eating performance.
"The name Xiong Da is great, so down-to-earth."
"Holy moly, watching Xiong Da devour his meal, he’s incredibly fierce."
"Foodie spirit, foodie soul, foodies—we all use bowls."
"Xiong Da is so easy to feed! Not picky at all, not even leaving the bones behind."
Lin Yang pulled Yue’er over to look at the barrage of comments, his lips curving into a smile.
"Yue’er, look at the comments, everyone is so funny. Let’s call this bear cub Xiong Da."
"I wonder if Xiong Da is full, should we give it another fish?" Yue’er, worried that the bear cub had not eaten its fill, was eager to bring over another fish.
Lin Yang, however, shook his head, "We can’t feed it anymore; overeating can be fatal."
Fearing that she wouldn’t believe him, Lin Yang pointed at the bear cub’s belly.
It had been deflated when asleep, but after consuming a fish, Xiong Da’s belly was visibly distended. The scene resembled a young puppy that hadn’t weaned off and had overindulged in milk, rounding out its belly.
The bear cub, having finished the fish, meticulously licked its paws, appearing to still crave more. It was only after a long time that it turned its attention to Yue’er and Lin Yang.
This little guy was quite bold, seemingly aware that the two people wouldn’t harm it. It sniffed gently and observed them both somewhat dazedly and endearingly, its wary gaze and body language significantly softened.
Just one look from those innocent eyes captivated Yue’er.
Yue’er casually pulled out a Russian-labeled milk candy from her pocket, unwrapped it, and placed it in her palm, then squatted down and slowly reached out her arm.
Seeing her action, Lin Yang was a bit worried. However, Xiong Da did not show any desire to bare its teeth and attack, but instead, sniffed like a foodie and cautiously licked the candy into its mouth with its tongue.
"Man, is this a wild bear? Why do I feel like this little bear is a bit too tame?"
"Could Miss Yue’er have the Beast Tamer talent? Xiong Da is so well-behaved!"
"This thing is even more obedient than my Husky back home. Did you guys notice? When it ate the candy, its tongue was so careful, afraid of biting Miss Yue’er’s hand."
"That’s it, Miss Yue’er as a Beast Tamer is set in stone."
After successfully feeding the first piece of candy, Yue’er felt greatly encouraged and pulled out more candy to continue trying.
What further destroyed Lin Yang’s notions was that with just three pieces of candy, Xiong Da actually let Yue’er pet its head, and it seemed to enjoy it a lot.
In an instant, he felt that this bear cub didn’t seem wild; even pet dogs weren’t this easy to handle.
"Brother Yang, Xiong Da is so well-behaved, can we find a way to go through the procedures and take it back to our country?" Yue’er, brimming with a sense of achievement, had her girlish heart thoroughly overflowing and was no longer satisfied with just helping the bear.
Lin Yang shook his head, "This is a protected animal, it can’t just leave the country. We’ll ask Uncle Victor for help later."
They were talking when Uncle Victor and Tina also came out of the house and walked over.
"Lin Yang, dinner’s ready, time to eat," Uncle Victor called out.
"Oh, okay! We’re just feeding the bear, we’ll come right away."
When they saw Yue’er calmly stroking the bear, and Xiong Da showing no signs of resistance—even exposing its round belly—even the worldly Uncle Victor was incredulous.
Victor said, "This is too exaggerated. I have never seen a bear so bold and good-natured. I encountered an injured cub the year before last. It wouldn’t let anyone near, nearly bit Tina, and later starved to death because it wouldn’t eat."
Lin Yang turned towards the live stream and greeted, "Alright, that’s it for today’s bear-stroking live stream. We’ll continue exploring Russia tomorrow. According to the plan, we’ll follow the outlet to the sea and go downstream to catch the legendary Emperor Crab. Don’t miss it!"
After ending the live stream, Yue’er asked Uncle Victor about the possibility of legally exporting the bear, but the answer she received was very disappointing.
There was indeed the possibility of legally importing a live brown bear, but the relevant regulations were very strict.
Brown bears in our country and Siberia are protected animals. Ordinary people are not allowed to keep them, let alone buy and import them from another country.
To legally import a live brown bear, one would need to have extremely high qualifications at the receiving end, such as a zoo or a wildlife research institution, in addition to various proofs of origin, quarantine inspections, usage approvals, and a review of the recipient’s qualifications, among many other frustrating hurdles for non-professionals.
Unless Lin Yang really disregarded everything, splurged on completing all necessary procedures, and built facilities purely undertaking it as a business.
Otherwise, legally importing and keeping a brown bear was out of the question.
Yue’er was just being impulsive. Even living in a fourth-tier city, she wouldn’t have the objective conditions to keep a brown bear. Once she understood the difficulty, she quickly gave up the idea.
Today’s trip didn’t excite Lin Yang much with the catches, but the addition of Xiong Da became the focal point of the dinner conversation.
After dinner, Yue’er went back to play with Xiong Da in the woodshed, playing until after nine before returning to her room to rest.
...
On the second night at the campsite, Lin Yang slept soundly until dawn.
The next morning, after washing up, Yue’er went to see Xiong Da.
After a night of cool down, Xiong Da’s mood had become even more stable. Yue’er tried and simply led it out of the house with a leash.
The still somewhat slender fellow was like a medium-sized pet dog, virtually without any aggressive desires, shyly observing the others and behaving very well.
"Brother Yang, I don’t want to go on today’s plan to catch Emperor Crabs; I want to stay at the camp and play with Xiong Da," Yue’er said.
Lin Yang nodded upon hearing this, "Alright, then you just stay here and behave."
After breakfast, Uncle Victor called his son Ivan, took Lin Yang to a slightly bigger boat at the small dock, and headed downstream towards the estuary.
