Chapter 441: Chapter 210: Suspected of Cheating
Such a frightening fish reeling efficiency left not only the captain in disbelief but also the African American lady responsible for watching the real-time video from the boat in great shock.
"It’s unbelievable, Alex, the Chinese angler caught another Big Mouth Bass. Since the start of the competition, this is the fifth fish, and three of them meet the competition standards," she said.
"What, five? What about the other anglers?" Alex couldn’t help but ask.
"Richard has got one, and so has Davis. The rest haven’t caught any fish that meet the criteria," she replied.
"This is insane. Could that Chinese guy be cheating? Where are they now? I think we need to communicate with the lake’s on-water referees to check what’s happening," Alex suggested.
"Good idea. I’ll send the coordinates to the nearest referee right now," she agreed.
Soon, the African American lady briefed the patrolling judges on the lake about the situation via walkie-talkie, and a race officiating boat with white and blue colors sped towards the given coordinates.
Blissfully unaware of the significant effect their successive catches had on others’ perceptions, Lin Yang and his companion continued fine-tuning various fishing details, seeking the best strategy for catching Big Mouth Bass.
In less than ten minutes, Lin Yang cast out over ten lines in the current hotspot area and caught another fish.
However, luck wasn’t on their side this time; the catch wasn’t the coveted Big Mouth Bass but a bizarre type of fish much larger in size and vividly colored.
This fish had a brownish-yellow back with dark green marble-like spots on its dorsal area. The sides of the fish were lighter than the back, adorned with red spots tinged with blue halos.
Most strikingly, the lower abdomen sported a flash of red, which was particularly eye-catching.
"Man, what kind of fish is this? Any angler bros here who recognize it?" he asked.
"Looking at the shape and the mouth, it seems like some kind of Salmon, but I don’t think we have it in our country," someone opined.
"American Red Spot Salmon, this fish is quite delicious and powerful. It’s a predatory species too," he observed after glancing at the live chat comments, removed the hook with Lure pliers, and released the fish back into the water, "It’s not our target species, so just let it go. This kind of fish is pretty aggressive; if it’s active in the area, it most likely drives other fish away. Hence, we no longer need to keep searching here. Let’s move to a different spot."
Hearing his words, the captain nodded and started the boat toward the next spot.
However, during their travel to the next spot, a boat painted blue and white appeared in their vision.
"What’s happening? Did some anglers from other areas overlap with us so soon?" Wang Feng asked curiously.
Squinting at the approaching boat, the captain replied, "That’s a judges’ boat. They patrol the lake’s areas during the competition to prevent cheating. We’re following the rules in everything we do, just stick to the normal routing and fishing, and don’t mind them."
"Oh, ok," Wang Feng nodded, reassured.
But the behavior of the judging boat impressed upon Lin Yang and his companion that the situation might not be so straightforward.
The boat unexpectedly veered at an angle, altering its course to follow their fishing vessel.
"Dude, host, is that boat deliberately following you?" someone asked.
"Do you even have to ask? Obviously, it is. It turned and followed us; the intention couldn’t be clearer," another commented.
"Could it be that the host’s performance has drawn their attention, and they’ve come to monitor specifically?" another speculated.
Lin Yang said, "Everyone, don’t overthink it. If we’re upright in what we do, we have nothing to fear from any surveillance. If they want to follow, let them follow. As long as it doesn’t interfere with our fishing, all is well."
As they noticed the judges’ boat, two middle-aged judges aboard were using binoculars to observe their activities.
"Hey, Johnson, take a look at that boat we were told to monitor by the video control desk, isn’t that a cellphone continuously filming?" the somewhat balding white judge pointed towards Lin Yang’s direction and inquired.
Johnson took the binoculars and looked, "Indeed, it’s a cellphone. Could it be that their rapid fish-catching is related to this device?"
The balding judge nodded, "Perhaps. Who knows? I think we need to catch up and ask them. If it really has something to do with the cellphone, then the secret to their quick catches might be revealed. This could be considered using a device to cheat. We have to stop him."
After agreeing on their course of action, the two judges immediately sped up their boat, quickly changing from a following to a chasing position.
"Attention the fishing boat in front, this is Judge Boat 009. We have a matter that requires your attention. Please reduce your speed for questioning," Johnson adjusted his walkie-talkie frequency, and the next second, Lin Yang’s walkie-talkie received a signal demanding they stop.
Quickly, the captain slowed down and brought the boat to a halt, offering help, "What seems to be the issue?"
"We need to take a little of your time over a small issue. We’ve received information from shore staff that your fishing boat has caught five Big Mouth Bass in a very short time, with three meeting the standard," they explained.
"Yes, is there a problem? These two are very young and skilled Chinese fishermen, and this is their first time participating in an international angling competition," the captain immediately clarified Lin Yang’s and his companion’s identities.
