Chapter 425: Chapter 205: Devil Fish School

Lin Yang dozed off on the small bed in the cabin. The sky had just begun to lighten when Yue’er woke him up.

"Brother Yang, get up and watch the sunrise."

Lin Yang rubbed his slightly dry eyes, washed his face briefly in the washroom to freshen up, and then went up to the deck.

Although Yue’er had only slept a few hours, her enthusiasm for watching the sunrise that morning was still quite high.

Since it might be the last morning they would spend at sea during this voyage, they had specially agreed to watch the sunrise together.

Standing on the yacht’s deck and looking out, a red sun was slowly rising above the horizon on the East Sea, gradually ascending.

The atmosphere of watching the sunrise at sea was indeed much stronger than on land.

The calm sea surface was slightly rippling, and the soft light of the red sun dyed the water red. The sight of this vast expanse with only the red sun was truly spectacular, beyond the description of words.

"Wow, Brother Yang, the sunrise at sea is so beautiful. It feels like I can never get enough of it."

Lin Yang smiled and said, "It is indeed beautiful. But don’t worry, we will definitely go out to sea again in the future and have our fill of sunrises then."

"Really? That’s great...."

Just as the two of them were watching the sunrise and feeling moved, a large area of ripples on the water some distance away caught their attention.

"Brother Yang, what’s that on the water to the east?" Yue’er had also noticed something strange and pointed to the distance.

Lin Yang took a look and confidently said, "It’s fish, a school of fish. Looks like we’ve encountered a large school of fish."

Just as he finished speaking and was about to turn around to grab the fishing gear, an astounding scene unfolded.

A big fish, like a bird, leapt out of the water, flapped its fleshy ’wings’ a few times, then glided briefly over the surface before plunging back into the water.

"Holy crap, what the hell is that?" At this moment, Wang Feng and the others, hearing the commotion, came running out and couldn’t help but ask when they saw the scene.

"Wow, a flying monster! Why is there a giant bat in the sea?" Yue’er also couldn’t help exclaiming again.

Lin Yang stopped in his tracks as well, having seen the spectacle, and said, "It’s a devil fish. Looks like they’re schooling for some reason. They’re not really valuable for fishing, but we can use a drone to capture this scene. This is rare footage. From a bird’s-eye view, we should be able to see the scale of the school."

Having said that, he turned around and ran back to get the drone. He then started it up without hesitation, and the drone took off and restarted the live broadcast.

"Damn, the streamer’s acting weird today, starting a broadcast this early in the morning, shell-shock."

"Front row seats, is this the end of the night fishing, heading back? I watched all night, went to sleep late, and almost couldn’t wake up for work this morning."

Lin Yang showed his face in the live broadcast room and greeted, "Good morning, everyone. We just got up early to watch the sunrise, and then we spotted a pretty amazing sight. I’m starting this live broadcast specially to show you all. It’s not about fishing this morning, but it will definitely be an eye-opener."

The very next second, the drone suddenly rose higher, flying in the direction of the school of fish.

From the boat, it was difficult to see the details of the distant water surfaces due to the reflective nature of the light; the only noticeable thing was some odd rippling.

But once the drone took off and looked down from above, the picture became much clearer.

Beneath the high-definition lens, the water was filled with countless devil fish at a shallow depth, the area of the school stretching more than several hundred square meters, moving clearly near the surface.

At that moment, a second devil fish leaped from the water, glided through the air for a short distance, and then dived back into the water.

"Holy crap, what is that thing?"

"Devil fish? Do these creatures school together?"

"That’s a fish? Are these things in the sea? Streamer, tell us what fish this is. I’m seeing it for the first time; it’s kind of scary."

"Such a large group, are these things edible? Streamer, you’d better hurry and get ready to fish, if they’re worth anything, this could be a fortune."

"It looks like rays...."

Before the viewers in the live broadcast room could adjust, more devil fish, seemingly influenced by their peers, began competing to leap out of the water, making the scene even more magnificent.

Lin Yang glanced at the barrage and realized that many people didn’t understand this type of fish, so he explained, "These aren’t rays. The scientific name for this type of fish is manta, also known as devil fish. They got their name because their swimming posture resembles the nocturnal flight of bats, belonging to the order Rajiformes, family Mobulidae. Their swimming motion in the water is somewhat similar to a bird soaring in the sky, with long narrow tails, spiked tips, and some related species are even venomous.

They’re quite different from rays. First of all, their size and shape are different. Rays are much smaller and rounder, whereas devil fish are mainly triangular and much larger, with the largest length reaching up to 7 meters. Also, their levels of aggressiveness are not the same; rays are relatively docile, but devil fish are highly aggressive and can be lethal, hence the name ’devil fish.’

Rays typically live in shallow seas, but devil fish mainly inhabit the deep sea and are not easy to catch with fishing gear.

It’s worth mentioning that mantas, this unique species of fish, have a different reproduction method from ordinary fish that lay eggs; mantas give birth to live young from eggs."
