Chapter 155: Chapter 130: Spirited Young Man_2
The barrage that had been endlessly discussing just moments ago quieted down naturally during the time of hooking and playing the fish as over two thousand viewers in front of their phones held their breaths, waiting for the big fish to exhaust itself and beach.
Next, the big fish surged intermittently a few more times, but it didn’t stir up much spray, rather, it accelerated the exhaustion of its strength. In less than 10 minutes, the fish’s energy was entirely depleted. It could no longer maintain its swimming posture underwater and floated to the surface, belly up.
Seeing the pale belly of the fish, Lin Yang’s tense nerves also relaxed significantly.
He slowly pulled the fish closer, hooked the landing net with his left foot and grabbed it, then submerged the large net head below the water surface. With his right hand pushing on the rod, he pulled the fish into the landing net, scooped once, pulled, and achieved a perfect catch.
This was a bream that visually weighed around 25 kilograms, very proportionate in body shape. The only imperfection was two damaged scales on the left side of its abdomen, likely caused by physical injuries during stocking.
According to the fishing site’s rules, any fish weighing over 10 kilograms needed to be weighed by the staff before it could be netted. Otherwise, it was considered a voluntary forfeiture of the weighing right, and the individual weight of that fish wouldn’t be counted.
This was the first big fish to be landed at Dragon Ascension Big Fish Pond today, and naturally, it was considered good luck to have it weighed.
Lin Yang shouted at the top of his lungs, and soon a staff member dressed in the fishing site’s uniform and holding a large fish weighing net approached.
"Who was it that just shouted for a fish weighing?"
"Hello, it was me, could you please help weigh this fish?" Lin Yang pointed at the fish in the landing net and greeted the staff.
"Come, place the fish into the net bag, be careful not to let it touch the ground or any debris."
The staff member opened the net bag, and Lin Yang cradled the fish into it. He then hung it on a digital scale, and the numbers quickly stabilized.
13.2kg
"Over 10 kilograms, the first big catch of the day, score valid!"
After confirming the weight of the big fish, the staff promptly filled out the fishing position number and the weight of the fish in the record book.
About half a minute later, the announcer’s loudspeaker broadcasted the weight announcement.
"All competing anglers please note, the first big fish was caught by angler number 46, successfully landed, with the current big fish weight recorded at 13.2kg!
The minimum weight for big fish stocked in this fishing site is 10kg, the maximum is 115kg. Best of luck to everyone in catching more fish, may your rods burst with big hauls!"
After the weighing, Lin Yang threw the big fish into the fish keep and, after rebaiting, cast his line into the water again.
"Whew, that was a bit risky just now, almost turned into a tug of war." After securing the big fish, Lin Yang commented with a lingering fear, showing that fishing for big fish indeed requires full attention.
"The broadcaster just now had some neat little techniques while playing the fish, fishing big ones with a hand rod very skillfully."
"You guys might not know, but the broadcaster’s best at catching big fish."
"What line is the broadcaster using, is it number 8? Why do I always get line cuts when I catch fish around ten kilograms with an 8 line?"
"I saw the broadcaster, after hooking the fish, plunged the rod straight into the water at first, and in the following instances, also swung the rod sideways. Is there a particular reason for that? Is there any technique to manage big fish while playing them, could you please explain, I’d like to learn as well."
Lin Yang noticed there were some new viewers asking about techniques for playing big fish.
Nonetheless, he nodded and said, "Seeing quite a few people asking about techniques for playing big fish, I’ll just briefly explain. I remember having mentioned it before, but today we’ll revise and fill in any gaps.

When wanting to fight big fish, the most crucial point for beginners is that you must never cast at full rod length, as this is the premise for sustaining a match with the big fish.
If you cast at full length, and you can’t lift the rod after hooking the fish, the rod’s elasticity can’t play its role. When it surges forward with force, the power of the big fish acts directly on the line, easily resulting in hook cuts or line breaks.
Just like earlier, when I caught this fish, I got distracted by the comments and reacted late to lift the rod and set the hook, which was a very dangerous situation.
Under normal circumstances, it’s best to cast the rod to about 70 or 80 percent of its length. If you can lift the rod at the first attempt to an angle of sixty to seventy degrees above, that would be ideal.
If you can’t lift the rod, while wild fishing you might drop the rod and use a Losing Hand Rope to mitigate the initial impacts, as I’ve explained in previous live sessions. Those who don’t quite understand can check my previous videos for a detailed procedure.
If you forgot to bring a Losing Hand Rope, or in a competition like today where using one is not allowed, and you can’t lift the rod, what should you do?
You would then need to use the technique of plunging the fishing rod into the water. After immersing the rod, the curvature of the rod changes from an upward arc to a side-to-side bend, still allowing the rod to exert its power. Moreover, the rod in the water also encounters some resistance, and if controlled well, it can redirect the direction of the fish’s surge. Once the fish turns around, that round of assault is basically stabilized.
For those just starting to learn techniques for playing big fish, you might try the figure-eight method.
This method is quite practical. Actually, I used the basic principles of the figure-eight method while playing the fish earlier, just adapting it on the fly.
The specific process involves lifting the rod after setting the hook and maintaining an angle of about 60 to 80 degrees. When the fish attempts to escape by surging forward, exert force from the side, directing the fish to swim along an overturned figure-eight trajectory.
