Chapter 154: Chapter 130: Spirited Young Man

Lin Yang’s words had barely ended when four grape-sized fish bubbles floated up from the edge of his baited spot.

"Damn, we’ve got fish at the bait spot, everyone see those bubbles?" His voice lowered slightly as he pointed out the location on the water’s surface where bubbles had just appeared.

"Bubbles that big, the fish must be of a decent size, be careful, streamer."

"Watch out, the BMW is coming."

Lin Yang slowly raised the rod, replaced it with fresh bait, and cast it out again.

Previously, in order to fish the original pond, he had been fishing around the edge of the bait spot; it didn’t really matter if the double hook dropped a little too full, given the thickness of his line setup.

But the same strategy simply wouldn’t work when fishing for the big ones; as mentioned before, casting a full rod could easily lead to a tug-of-war and the line being cut, resulting in the fish running away—Lin Yang wouldn’t make such a basic mistake.

For the next cast, he obediently cast to the 8/10th mark of the bait spot, the normal fishing position. The temptation of the fresh bait and rubber band granules was definitely stronger than the soaked and dissolving bait in the spot, and with patience, he was sure to get a bite.

In the following five minutes, Lin Yang didn’t dare to breathe loudly, nor did he interact with the stream’s viewers anymore, but instead stared fixedly at the float’s movements. However, the big fish underwater simply wouldn’t take the bait, and this was indeed a bit frustrating.

Fishing for small fish is about skill and fundamental techniques; fishing for big fish, apart from comparing skills, often comes down to patience.

Lin Yang, having fished up until now, had absolute confidence in his bait and bait spot, so getting the fish to bite was just a matter of time.

Although he wasn’t in a hurry, the viewers in the live stream were starting to get restless.

"Hey, didn’t we see a big fish blowing bubbles just now? Why isn’t it taking the bait?"

"It’s been 5 minutes, hasn’t it? I’m dying of anxiety here; the fish aren’t cooperating at all."

Lin Yang glanced at the barrage of comments, but just at that critical moment, the float dipped sharply and disappeared.

"Holy shit, it’s a full dive."

"Streamer, strike, the float went under."

Getting a bite when distracted, alongside getting one when smoking or while peeing, ranked among the three great mysteries in fishing. Live-streaming as he was, Lin Yang had stumbled upon one of these.

By the time he came back to his senses, a second or two had already passed. Noticing the float was gone, Lin Yang set the hook with a strike!

When casting, he had left enough room for the rod to set the hook, but there hadn’t been a lift of the rod during the dive; the fish had already moved some distance underwater, pulling on the line, which meant the rod didn’t immediately rise when he tried to strike.

The force from underwater was enormous, almost as if something had snagged on the bottom and was hard to lift; the angle between the fishing rod and the water’s surface was no more than thirty to forty degrees. Any further force exerted forward, and he would almost be in a tug-of-war situation.

In that critical moment, Lin Yang braced the rod with his left hand, gripped the handle with his right, and decisively dipped the rod into the water, shifting as much of his body weight as possible downward.

All he felt now was the big fish pushing forward relentlessly, but the force was dissipated by the rod that was inserted into the water. After a seven to eight second standoff, during which the big fish charged three times, he managed to turn its head around and stabilize the situation.

"Phew, that was close, but it turned around." Lin Yang exhaled, slowly standing the rod back up.

At this moment, the viewers in the live stream were also sweating on his behalf.

"Wow, wow, wow, that was close, it almost turned into a tug-of-war."

"The streamer was just looking at the comments and got distracted."

"This fish has to be a big one; that full dive was too aggressive; it disappeared in a splash."

Lin Yang indeed had been momentarily distracted, but with his textbook-like emergency response, he had managed to get through the situation most likely to cause the fish to run after being hooked.

Now, with both hands on the rod, his right hand gripping the base of the handle and his left cradling the midsection, he had the fish under steady control.

After a brief pause of about ten seconds, the fish made its second attempt to charge. The high-pitched ringing of the taut line and bending of the rod abruptly intensified.

Lin Yang repeated his earlier action, tilting the rod sharply to one side.

The fish was thrusting towards the deeper water directly ahead, while Lin Yang controlled the rod at a 90-degree angle to the direction of its force.

To put it more vividly, it’s like a person leading a bull, where applying force at a perpendicular 90-degree angle is the easiest way to change the direction of a forward charge.

This was one of the most classic moves of the "figure-eight sliding fish" method, a technique to guide the big fish to turn around.

Feeling the force from the side, the fish’s forward direction was altered, and the charge was naturally neutralized.

After the second wave of charges was withstood, the fish’s strength subsided substantially. Lin Yang hugged the rod and backed up a few steps with experience, anticipating a possible third charge.

Indeed, after a 20-second standoff, the big fish launched its third charge.

The distance he had intentionally backed up earlier gave Lin Yang strategic depth to cushion the charge. He bowed the rod and walked forward a few steps, rotating the stressed direction of the bent rod and took the opportunity to once again lead the fish’s head back.

After three consecutive charges, the strength of the fish underwater was clearly waning. Lin Yang again set the rod at an appropriate angle to continue draining the big fish of its energy.

This was a cultured fish whose initial power burst might be great, but its stamina was nowhere near that of wild fish.

After several charges, the fish’s strength was greatly reduced, and on the next charge, Lin Yang didn’t even need to adjust the angle of the rod; he dissipated the momentum with just his waist strength.

Throughout the ordeal, the incessant buzzing high-frequency vibration of the tight line continued, a sound that to any angler instantly turned into a blood-pumping battle hymn.
