The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 98
Chapter 98: Chapter 98
Amelia could not believe he had actually gotten rid of her candy forever. She expected this to be a little trick and then he would smile handsomely before dangling the bag in her face. "You know what, it was my mistake for not checking the bag. I don’t have any more time to waste with you," she said and then sat up from her seat.
"Where are you going, princess?" Killian asked.
"To start this truce and send out notices for when the meeting will begin. Isn’t that what you advised me to do?" She replied as she walked away with Cyrus right behind her. "That brute was right. I have too many things to do to be just sitting around doing nothing. I need to set my own terms for the truce, deal with my mother’s tower and diary, find out what my grandmother is hiding, and start packing to leave with Killian."
"Will there be a celebration for your union?" Cyrus asked.
"Normally there would be a party or festival to celebrate royalty getting married but considering the people here are afraid of Killian, I see no need for a party right now. Plus, we need to save money to compensate for the damage we incurred from Killian making his way to the castle. I need to think of something to offer the families who lost their sons in this fight. Perhaps as the new king, I should let Fraser take credit for it," said Amelia.
Cyrus didn’t see why she would do that when some people were angry with her after she announced her engagement. She should let them see how much she cared for them. "Why on earth would you do that?"
"There’s a lot of uncertainty among the people about the future of this kingdom now that the king is dead and the princess is going off to the north. Fraser has never been around to help the people so they don’t know what to make of him becoming king. He’s going to be more concerned about what to wear on the throne than how to gain the people’s trust. I’d feel better leaving with the people not worried about their future king not helping them. Have you heard any news about slaves?"
Amelia made that announcement yesterday and found it odd that she had not found anyone brining back slaves to be freed.
"I have not. It seems people are not willing to give up the people they bought," Cyrus said with a hint of anger in his voice.
"Hmm. As it concerns the north, I will let Killian do whatever he needs to for the slaves to be returned. I don’t care who he has to scare for everyone to realize how serious we are. No one should have been going around buying another person. It’s disgusting," said Amelia.
"They might have the wrong idea about you and me. Many have always thought you bought me though you have stated you freed me. You may need to clear that up again," Cyrus advised her.
"I don’t need to clear up what has been explained from the moment you decided to stay by my side. Anyone looking for excuses to own another person has something seriously wrong with them. Before I leave, all slaves will be freed. We need to pay attention to those shady businesses that will try to hide them. I should have asked Killian if he got started on this," Amelia muttered and turned around to look at the garden but Killian was already gone.
As it concerned his people, she felt he would already be on it. Besides, a demon was the best person to dig out the lowlives trying to hide shady businesses.
"You don’t have to remain by my side right now, Cyrus. You are free to leave and keep an eye on the town to see if the woman you are looking for is being brought back. I am safe in the castle right now," Amelia said as she did not want Cyrus to be here when he could be out looking for the reason he cared for most. "It hurts me that you only stuck by my side to use me in the beginning."
Cyrus looked at the back of Amelia’s head as she walked ahead of him. He could not dispute that because he did intend to stay by her side to use her. He figured the princess would have been the best person to give him access to search around the kingdom but then he saw what little power she honestly had. "As time went on, I stayed because I cared for you, princess. You changed my mind about trusting humans," he replied.
"I’m aware of that. You would have sneaked away a long time ago when I was of no use to you. I have to mentally prepare myself to lose someone I really trust. Though I’ve said I want you to be in Killian’s castle with me in the north, once you’ve reconnected with this mysterious woman, you may wish to be alone with her and settle down quietly. Unless I take Gina, I will be alone. Don’t take this as me trying to guilt trip you to stay by my side," Amelia turned to her side to clarify. "I’m just trying to mentally prepare for us to go separate ways."
"I promised to protect you and I intend to do so in the north. While we are going to the castle, I can show you where I grew up and where I had chosen to settle down. It’s not much but-"
"I’d be happy to get a tour from you, Cyrus. It might help calm my nerves before we reach Killian’s castle. Now, I am going to drown myself in creating this truce. You are free to do as you wish, Cyrus. You need to eat something," she added before he could claim he had nothing to do. "The kitchen cooks for the northerners so you should be able to get your own food. I’ve been meaning to ask," Amelia motioned for him to step forward.
Cyrus stepped forward expecting to hear something about the castle but frowned as soon as Amelia whispered in his ear. "We are not vampires, princess."
"Oh. Well, what’s the difference? Did I just offend you?" Amelia cringed because of the annoyed look on Cyrus’s face. "Goodbye," she ran off before she could be lectured. "I don’t see how they are that different. Anyway, time to get to work,’" she stretched her hands.
Making the perfect truce would take hours and she needed to take a look at how past truces looked to make sure she was doing it right. This would be the first royal document she would be stamping her name on so she needed it to be perfect with no flaws so that the court ministers could not find any issues with it. She needed to have solutions already prepared for each issue they will bring up to try to make someone else start the truce.
"This is going to take me all day, isn’t it?" Amelia thought out loud.
"What’s going to take all day?" Beth Adams, Fraser’s mother, loudly questioned when she spotted Amelia. "Don’t walk too fast in the castle. My tutor used to scold me for doing so."
"Times have changed since then," Amelia replied to her aunt. It had been a long time since Beth visited the castle as she liked to avoid Margaret. Amelia also thought Beth wanted to run away from being reminded she was not a legitimate royal. ’Seems Fraser becoming king is bringing everyone out of their holes,’ she thought.
Amelia sort of liked Beth. Beth was her aunt and a fellow princess but there was something about her that gave Amelia a funny feeling. Amelia always trusted that funny feeling.
"I am so sorry for your loss," Beth touched Amelia’s hand to comfort her.
"You too. He was your brother," Amelia returned the comfort.
Beth smiled, happy to hear Amelia had not referred to Richard as her half-brother as everyone else did. "It is hard to lose both parents. I remember how painful it was for me."
"It isn’t hard when I only cared for one but his death was a shock. You are not normally in the castle and we are not accepting guests until the truce has been made to ensure the north won’t attack. Why are you here, aunt Beth? Is it because of Fraser potentially becoming king?"
"Potentially?" Beth chuckled. "It has already been decided he will take your father’s place."
"Killian decided that but your son is annoying me so much I might just whisper in his ear to make Annabelle’s child the next ruler. I’m kidding," Amelia added as soon as Beth’s smile fell. "I don’t have that sort of control over Killian Bune but if I did, who knows what would happen? It’s nice to see that you are in the castle again. I would love to catch up but I have something important to do and then meet with my grandmother."
"I was not informed your grandmother was here," Beth bitterly spoke.
