The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 97

Chapter 97: Chapter 97

"Princess! News is spreading throughout the castle that you have called off your engagement to the king of the north. Is it true?" Gina asked with anxious eyes. Everyone feared what would happen to them now that Killian no longer had something to stop him from destroying the castle. "It could not be true. You two were doing so well-"

"It is true," Amelia replied as she read the paper a servant bought her about news from the town. Though she saw a creature around the men Killian killed, all of the bodies were found by chance last night and news of it was already sent around. "What a pain in the ass."

"Princess," Gina stared at Amelia in disbelief. "Do you wish to get us all killed? This isn’t something you can call off and then sit around acting like everything is fine. Why did you call it off?"

"The court minister won’t let me be present for the truce," said Amelia.

"Ha!" Gina raked her fingers through her hair still in disbelief. "You’ll jeopardize our safety for that?"

"No one will get hurt," Amelia confidently spoke. If Killian had any intention to start killing anyone, he would have done so already. Besides, she knew how much he wanted her by his side to keep entertaining him. If he killed one more person in this castle, they both knew she would rather die than be by his side.

"How can you be so sure of that?" Gina argued. She didn’t see now as the time to be playing around because Amelia could not get into the meeting. Gina turned to Cyrus who had been quiet all this while. "Why aren’t you trying to talk her out of this? Do you think they won’t kill you too?"

"We are servants to the princess. We cannot question her judgment in this matter and frankly, I stand by what she is doing," Cyrus honestly answered. The court ministers shouldn’t be able to use Amelia’s marriage and not include her in important meetings. The meeting concerned the future of the people and so far, Amelia was the only one he saw to care for the people.

"Amelia, as your friend-"

"Right now, you are not her friend, you are her servant," Cyrus bluntly interrupted Gina.

Amelia looked up from her paper as she disliked what Cyrus just told Gina but she wanted to hear where he was going with this.

"While everyone else questions her motives, you must be on her side and not question her in public like this," said Cyrus.

"It’s just the three of us here," Gina rolled her eyes.

Amelia looked around the garden at the maids passing by and their eyes lingered on her. "It’s true, Gina. Though it is only us in the garden that does not mean there are no eyes from afar watching us. I’d like to think that for as long as you have been by my side, you would not believe I would let everyone in this castle die."

"That," Gina started to reply but then had to close her mouth. She knew Amelia well enough to know she would not purposely let anyone die but Gina was scared. "I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings."

"There was no need for you to apologize. It’s perfectly normal for you to be scared when your life’s on the line because of what someone else does. It has opened my eyes to something. Gina, the castle is going to become more dangerous when Fraser sits as king. Forget about watching over my grandmother and seriously consider if life in the castle is something you want-"

"Seriously?" Gina clenched her fist. "I questioned you and now you are changing your plan to have me watch over your grandmother? When am I going to be useful to you other than to get you dressed or bring food?"

"This has nothing to do with you questioning me. I am giving you a moment to seriously consider if you want to be here. The castle might appear to be safe but it’s a dangerous place. Any enemy who attacks will kill all those present in the castle. Although when I leave my grandmother will shield you, there’s no telling what danger you’ll find yourself in. You’re scared," said Amelia.

Amelia could see the fear in Gina’s eyes at the thought of Killian suddenly turning against them. "You’ll always live in fear if you stay in the castle. I can find you another job where you will be safe."

"I don’t want to leave. When the northerners leave, I won’t be on edge anymore.’

Amelia sighed, "The northerners aren’t the only people you need to watch out for."

"Then take me with you," Gina requested. She had wanted to follow Amelia to the north from the moment Amelia accepted the engagement. "You’ve become close to the king but the only person you can truly trust is Cyrus. Take me with you, Amelia. I know I can’t defend you but I would be one more person to watch your back. If you are so concerned about leaving me, please take me."

Even after hearing this, Amelia did not wish to take Gina with her to the north. That was one more person who would need to be protected from the threats in the north. However, as she had bigger issues to deal with, Amelia replied, "I will think about it but do not get your hopes up. Now, please do me a favor and find out what the court ministers are up to."

"Yes ma’am," Gina saluted Amelia and happily ran off to find news.

"That girl," Amelia shook her head. "Cyrus, what do you think I should do? Should I leave her here or take her along? You know the north better than I do."

"For her to go with you, you need to have a proper conversation with your husband about safety. Perhaps now that he is walking toward you," Cyrus said and looked up behind Amelia where he sensed Killian. Wherever Killian was there would be a dark aura present in the air.

"I don’t want to speak with him unless he plans to give me back what he burned," Amelia folded her arms.

"I am not getting in the middle of this," Cyrus stepped away to offer the two of them some privacy.

"Princess," Killian leaned over where she sat and stared down at her. "You have a beautiful angry face. Did you know that?"

Amelia remained silent.

"You’ve created a mess in the castle but you are here relaxing. One trip together and you are confident I wouldn’t have my men seize this castle again. You are lucky that I am still amused by the things you do like calling off our engagement," Killian chuckled. Shock would be an understatement for what he felt when she declared their engagement to be off.

"You are smart enough to know that I did not call it off for real. Just until I get involved in that truce. Let me ask you a question and depending on your answer, I will ignore you even more," Amelia said and looked up at Killian. "Do you agree that I should be involved in that meeting?"

"I think that you should have been the one to call for that meeting to happen before those men. You are the one who accepted my proposal to get married and for a truce to be formed. From that moment, you should have made a list of things for the truce and called the meeting yourself but you did not. You moved too slow but yes, you should be a part of it," Killian honestly answered.

Amelia was now in a position where she could have communicated a date for the truce with Killian and then the court ministers would have been informed. Why wait on the men in the castle to call for the meeting when it was obvious they would leave her out?

"So this is my fault is what you are saying. Have you forgotten I was worried about introducing this whole idea of peace and us being married to my people while trying to get to know you? A man who I have been told to avoid for many years?" Amelia pointed out.

"You need to learn to multitask, princess. As a royal, your mind will never be at ease so you must be accustomed to dealing with many problems at a time. Instead of sitting around waiting on those men to beg you to attend the meeting, you should be writing up your truce and then calling for your meeting. It is not like I would not accept your meeting," said Killian.

Amelia couldn’t argue as he was right. "You must think that I am like a spoiled child right now."

"We are to be married, princess. The last thing I’ll do is view you as a child. Now, get up and get to work on writing out what you want to be in the truce."

"Alright but first, give me my candy so that I can forgive you. Make it magically appear or something," Amelia held her hand out for it.

"Princess, once I have burned something I can bring it back," he replied.
