The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 90

Chapter 90: Chapter 90

"Almost," Fraser muttered.

He stood in the throne room staring at the throne which now belonged to him. It always did.

He ran his hand along the chair with the most power in the kingdom. Once the crown was placed on his head, he would be the most powerful man in all the land and prove those who laughed at him when he said he would be king wrong. He wanted to see their faces now that he was announced as king. Fraser wanted them to come and beg to be his followers.

"I need to find a way to get grandmother to go back to her home. I don’t need her over my shoulder when she is on Amelia’s side more than she is on mine," said Fraser. He loved his grandmother but wasn’t blind to how she favored Amelia. His grandmother might have him do things for the benefit of Amelia. "Why are you here?" Fraser asked without looking at the person who arrived.

"Your mother said you would be here so I came to look for you. Getting excited for the moment you become king? If only it could happen as fast as we would like it," said Cedric Adams, Fraser’s grandfather. "You’ve done well. Now one of our own will sit on the throne. I’ve lived to good days."

"One of our own?" Fraser chuckled as it sounded like a joke. "I recall you telling my father I was useless because I did not enter the court and I was not someone the people cheered for. Now here you are checking on me? What an interesting day this is. I will be changing my name to Blackwell so it is not one of your own on the throne. I will make sure you do not gain entry to the castle."

Cedric chuckled, not afraid of Fraser’s threats. "You will be king but you have no power. You need someone like me to back you or you crumble on the throne before you can sit on it in a year’s time. The Adams will back you because you have our blood even if your last name changes to Backwell. Why do you think Richard kept close to the court ministers?"

"I am smarter than I look, grandfather. I will have allies in the castle but it will not be you. You are only trying to use me to push the Adam last name further. I will not be your puppet," said Fraser. He had not easily forgotten all the terrible things his grandfather said about him. "Enjoy your last night visiting the castle."

"Fraser, I can have you killed before you ever sit on that throne. I am closer to the court ministers than you are. How about I have them start staying how Amelia should have been the one to inherit the throne"

"You bastard," Fraser marched down to where his grandmother stood and was met with a slap to the face. "You! Are you crazy? You just slapped the future king."

"No. I slapped my grandson who is not using his head. Do you think someone like you who has never lived in the castle or dealt with politics will survive on your own? I am offering you help so that you do not embarrass the Adams name. Your mother and father have already requested for me to help you because of the time I have spent in the castle. You will listen and do everything I say. First by following my plan to kill the king of the north."

Fraser looked at his grandfather in shock. He never expected for his grandfather to start looking for a way to kill the king of the north. "What plan do you have to kill that bastard? He is not an easy opponent for us to kill right now."

"Obviously but we will not be the ones to kill him. His new wife will if she cares about the people in her kingdom. A couple of the people here have proposed the idea to let the princess kill Killian when they are alone back in the north. If she succeeds, she will be killed in the north but she did a good thing for her people. If she fails, she will end up dead and we will claim to know nothing about it," said Cedric.

"So, she’s going to be a sacrifice? After walking around like she was on top of the world because of this engagement? Ha ha ha," Fraser’s body shook from laughter. If only he could rub it in her face now that she was not going to be the queen she was dreaming of. "Poor cousin," he happily said.

"Instead of walking around touching the throne, you should be reading books and trying to get connections in the castle. There are many things a king must know and many people he must have on his side. Instead of getting the past king’s people on your side, look for fresh faces who will not try to control you," Cedric advised Fraser.

Cedric knew the best thing to do would be to fire all the court ministers and hire new ones but that was not easy as it seemed. For now, the sly men he was not friends with would stay but they would be replaced soon. No one was going to get in his way of ruling through Fraser.

Cedric thought having his son marry a princess would give him a bit of power in the castle but he was wrong. Margaret quickly made arrangements for Fraser’s mother to leave the castle and it was mostly Fraser allowed inside the castle as he pleased. It was by some mere luck that Richard was unable to get an heir and started to like Fraser.

"Grandfather, it won’t be long before you find yourself surprised by how much I have prepared for a day like this when I would be king. I would not have my reign end like my uncle’s. I will go down as the greatest king this kingdom has ever seen," Fraser declared confidently.

He enjoyed the look on his grandfather’s face as he did not believe such a thing would happen. Fraser liked being underestimated because he would always prove everyone wrong.

’Fine, I will use you,’ Fraser made up his mind. His grandfather did have a lot of resources and connections in the castle while Fraser only had his uncle who was now dead and one or two ministers who wanted him to be king instead of Annabelle’s bastard. ’I will let you think you are pulling strings,’ he thought.

"Excuse me, grandfather but tomorrow is a big day for me. I need to have a word with my mother and then go off to sleep. Please have a safe ride back to your home," Fraser said, alluding to the fact that his grandfather could not stay in the castle for the rest of the night.

Fraser walked off with his head high in the ear while Cedric shook his head at this foolish grandson. With all the resources his son provided for Fraser, Cedric had expected Fraser to be something more than the idiot he was now. The bright side was how easy it would be to control an idiot.

Cedric looked back at the throne he could one day sit on if he played his card’s right. He would be written down in history as the one who changed which family ruled this land.

Cedric left the throne room with a cunning smile as he looked forward to the future.

"Humans," Alastor muttered now that the two plotting humans had left the throne room and only the guards remained now.

It should be impossible how greedy humans were when they were so weak. If they were going to be so power hungry they should at least have some kind of special abilities instead of just talking too much and dying easily.

Alastor disappeared from the spot in the roof he had been laying on and appeared in the darkness of a hall. While Killian was running around having fun with his little princess, Alastor had taken it upon himself to keep an eye on what the humans were up to.

It was interesting how much he was hearing about the princess killing Killian after they had to depart to the north. The fools were talking about it so much that someone from the north was bound to find out about it.

’This place is boring. We should have just burnt it to the ground,’ Alastor sighed. He would love for Killian to order him to return to the north but Killian would want him nearby.

’I swear the head maid is the devil,’ he heard a woman’s voice in the distance.

Looking for the source, Alastor spotted the maid who was around the princess from time to time. He listened intently to her cursing someone and calling them the devil.

’A mere head maid being the devil? Nonsense,’ He thought.

As Gina neared Alastor, he found her to be the perfect way to pass time in the boring castle.
