The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 72
Chapter 72: Chapter 72
"Why were you coming to visit my bedroom?" Amelia asked the moment she closed her bedroom door. "We are engaged but we are far from being close."
"I was merely checking if you were safe. I had no plans to step inside of your bedroom. I planned to leave after I landed on the balcony and everything seemed to be alright," Killian truthfully replied.
"If you are afraid of your men harming me, have them leave the castle."
"It is not my people I am protecting you from," Killian stated as none of the men he traveled with would be foolish enough to lay a hand on someone he called his woman. "You have many enemies here in the castle. I am making sure my wife does not die before we make it to the north."
"Did you hear something? Who is trying to kill me? Who would be so bold when I am marrying the king of the north?" Amelia asked.
"It is not about being bold. It is who is foolish to harm you. You have a lot of bad blood with your cousin and the mistress but there are also the men in court who disliked your presence in the throne room. I’ve accepted the fact you trust the man outside your door but his skills are lacking in my eyes therefore I will check on your surroundings myself," Killian explained his reasoning for being there last night.
Taking in her appearance, Killian added, "I apologize if anything I said last night caused you any discomfort and you weren’t able to sleep."
"Do not apologize for telling me the truth. I prefer the truth rather than being kept in the dark but I will admit it’s a lot to process. Then there’s the fact I saw you flying. Do you have some sort of large wings?" Amelia circled Killian as she asked this question. She was curious to know how he was hiding them.
"Might I know what you are searching for? If it is my wings, they are not just under my clothes. You humans would call it magic with how they can suddenly appear. I suppose that answers the question of me having large wings," he answered her question. "Unless he lost them as a punishment or in a fight, your guard should have small wings to fly around."
’"Really?" Amelia found this to be amazing. Cyrus most definitely had the ability to escape her side if he wanted but he stayed around for so long. "Can you show me them now? You don’t have to if you don’t want to."
"Let’s leave that for another time. You need to process everything one by one. Knowing too much at once will drive you to be insane. You won’t be able to sleep like last night."
"I always had trouble sleeping at night before what happened last night. Do not worry about it. I am looking for medicine to help me sleep at night but I try not to go to the castle doctor as it would have been reported back to my father. I feel a bit calm now that you have confirmed what I saw last night," Amelia stepped away from Killian. "Next time, be like every normal person and come to my door if you wish to check on me."
"You will have to inform your guard-"
"Cyrus," Amelia corrected Killian. "Please refer to him by his name. I do not tolerate anyone disrespecting the people I care for. If you wish to not get on my bad side, you should learn the names of the people I care for. I’m sure you would want me to respect the people around you."
"I’ll make sure to treat your people with respect each time I send them. For my stay here, I will visit every morning and night to make sure that you are safe and sound. Perhaps there is a room close by for me to stay in. It would be best for me to be nearby to see who comes near you with evil intentions," said Killian.
"Is that something you can sense?" Amelia asked. It would be a useful skill for someone living in a castle to have.
"I can. Many of your people here have the aura around them. One would think they were also demons. One guard would not have been enough to save you had your father ever tried to kill you. You know that right?" Killian asked, wanting to be frank with her. Cyrus might be more skilled than the Blackwell guards but he was outnumbered a thousand to one.
"One guard was all I had who wouldn’t secretly be working for my father. It could not be helped," Amelia covered her mouth to hide a yawn. As much as she wanted to try getting some rest now, they had to prepare for breakfast and then head to toe to share the news of her engagement and the passing of her father. ’If only I could shut my eyes for one more hour,’ she thought.
Amelia repeatedly blinked her eyes to keep herself awake. "When it is not the time to fall asleep I suddenly feel able to fall asleep. Why?"
"Go to bed. Everything else could be prolonged. It does not need to happen today," Killian advised her.
"No. It has all been planned and I will not be the one to ruin it. I must..." Amelia’s body went limp after Killian touched her forehead.
Killian caught her body before it could drop to the floor. He found her snoring to be amusing while he watched her sleep in his arms. "Sleep well little feisty princess," he told her right before lifting her into his arms to take her to her bed. He would get a maid to undress and clean up her body while she slept.
"Princess! I’ve-" Gina clamped her mouth shut at the sight of Killian inside Amelia’s bedroom. "I’m sorry, King Killian."
"You are one of her people right? What is your name?" Killian asked without looking at her.
"Gina, your highness. I am the princess’s personal maid and friend," Gina kept her head down to avoid having to look at him when he was terrifying. She understood now why Cyrus was reluctant to let her inside. "I am sorry for interrupting you. I was meant to be getting ready the princess. Excuse me," she tried to back out.
"Do not leave. Her dress needs to be changed and her skin cleaned. I will take my leave for you to do that. Make sure nothing wakes her up from her rest. If someone tries troubling her while she sleeps, please send for me and I will take care of it. Take care of her," Killian said to Gina. He then gave Amelia one last look before exiting her room.
"What the heck?" Gina mumbled in disbelief as she could not believe the encounter she had with the king of the north. He was now Amelia’s future husband but that didn’t change the fact she was terrified of him.
She was seriously starting to question if she could honestly follow Amelia to the north as she said. "What on earth was he doing in her bedroom so early? Cyrus," Gina stuck her head outside the door and grabbed hold of his clothes to pull him inside. "Quietly explain why Killian Bune was here and how Amelia is suddenly knocked out."
"He came to pay her a visit but I have no idea how she fell asleep. You know just as much as I do that she really needs this rest. Please change her and don’t leave her side. I will stop anyone from trying to visit her."
"I have a feeling you were outside her door all night long. She is not the only one in need of rest. Take a break from guarding her. I will not leave the room. Go," Gina shooed her away.
Cyrus did not want to leave right now. "I-"
"Cyrus!" Gina balled up a handful of his shirt and pulled him close to her. In a threatening voice, she said," Go get some rest and return to us. Suppose the moment she needs you to protect her, your body is tired and you cannot fight as best as you want to. I am not able to protect her like you can but please trust that I will not let any harm come to her. Go get some rest."
Gina felt guilty that Cyrus was the only one Amelia could lean on in a time like this. For a long time since the king of the north appeared, Gina had been hiding while Cyrus was always by Amelia’s side. "Let me take some of the burdens off of you. I swear if anything happens I will scream at the top of my lungs. Please go."
Cyrus could not deny his body was starting to feel tired. He was a night creature but at some point, his body needed rest. He knew Gina would never allow any harm to come to Amelia. "I will rest here in her room."
