The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 58
Chapter 58: Chapter 58
"Do as you please," Amelia calmly stated after the man threatened to kill her should she run. Wasn’t it obvious that if she wanted to run she would have done so already? His attempt to scare her fell flat. "Where are your king and my grandmother?"
"They are having breakfast and shall- wait!"
"Why wait when you have told me all that I needed to hear? Come, Cyrus. We are in need of something to eat," Amelia began to lead the way to the dining room. She expected there would be someone placed to watch her and other important people in the castle.
As Amelia walked through the castle, she saw many northerners positioned at every inch of the exits. They mostly spent the night mapping out the castle or they already had one. It would explain how Killian was able to move around in the castle without being spotted. How else would he know all the blind spots? Unless someone was helping him?
The person anyone else would think it to be would be Cyrus but Amelia knew him well enough to trust that he would not help Killian invade the castle. Besides, that would be too obvious. If there was someone in the Blackwell castle helping Killian, they would soon reveal themselves to show their alliance. ’
"Grandmother?" Amelia accidentally spoke out loud as the thought of her grandmother as the person came to mind.
Margaret mentioned being able to talk with Killian as she had done so in the past and strangely enough, Margaret and Killian both spoke of marriage. It seemed plausible but Amelia wanted to think her grandmother would not put the castle she once ruled in danger and allow her son to be killed.
Regardless of what Margaret thought about the king, he was still her son. Her only child. Could she have brought herself to let Killian kill him?
’How am I to face her when I’ve killed her son?’ Amelia asked herself. Not once had she thought about the fact she was killing her grandmother’s only child. She had only considered killing her father whom she could no longer allow to live.
What was she supposed to do or say if Margaret were to break down in tears and cry over the loss of her son?
Amelia felt more like running away from Margaret than Killian.
"Princess," Cyrus placed a hand on her shoulder. He could feel there was something wrong with her. It wasn’t hard to tell when Amelia allowed her thoughts to become negative after being by her side for a while. "Are you alright?"
"Yes," Amelia looked to her side and offered Cyrus a smile. She was well aware Cyrus would not believe her but not push the matter when there was a stranger present. "I hope there was no one hurt while I returned to my room?"
"Unlike your father, our king keeps his word."
"I see," Amelia replied. From the tone of the man’s voice she knew he did not want to speak with her and rightfully so but why didn’t he turn down the request to guard her if he did not like her? Why did Killian send someone who disliked her to be her guard when he was trying to convince her to marry him?
At a moment like this, shouldn’t he have sent someone to sing praises of him? They truly underestimated how much she would rather kill herself than be thrown into another arranged marriage she did not agree to.
Amelia remained silent for the rest of the walk to the dining hall. As she got closer she heard the sound of Killian speaking and her grandmother’s voice. "Good morning," she made her presence known.
Amelia found it surprising that Annabelle always sat at the table and from the look on her face she had been crying about something. Was it because the king was dead or her position in the castle was being threatened? No one would ever know.
"Good morning Amelia. I’ve made sure to learn your name in the middle of the night. Did you sleep well?" Killian questioned. He sat where King Richar used to sit each morning.
"As well as I can when one of our enemies casually sits in our castle," Amelia replied as she walked to the table.
A few of Killian’s men stepped forward to discipline her for being disrespectful to their king but Killian held up his hand to stop them. He eyed her every movement until she sat down. After a night’s rest, it seemed the fire he was intrigued by had grown.
"I’m sorry if we ruined your night but if we attacked in the daytime your men would have seen us coming. Had I known you might have been uncomfortable last night, I would have visited to help you out."
Annabelle narrowed her eyes after hearing Killian’s words. For a moment it sounded like he was flirting with Amelia which she thought was unbelievable but when she looked at the smile on his face and the way he looked at the dreaded girl, Annabelle realized it to be true. The king of the north seemed to have an interest in Amelia.
’Relax Annabelle, he may just be looking to sleep with her. It is good for us if he ruins her. Then no one would want Amelia and she would leave the castle when this is all over,’ Annabelle smiled at the thought.
On the other hand, Amelia found it to be annoying how Killian spoke to her. She would never need him to visit her to help her sleep. If he wanted to help, he should disappear from their castle and never return.
"That is not necessary," she replied.
Amelia’s focus went from Killian to her grandmother who offered her a smile when their eyes met. It didn’t seem like Margaret had cried at all. Had no one told her the king was dead or was she holding back what she felt?
Amelia had to look away because of the emotions she felt building up. ’Do I tell her I was the one who killed my father? Would she resent me? Would she expose what I have done?’
"Are your mornings normally like this without everyone speaking to each other? I have said you are all safe. I have no intentions of killing women unless they are trying to kill me. We will talk about the future of this castle after you have all filled your stomachs and what I have proposed to your princess."
"What did you propose to her?" Annabelle could not help but ask. She was silently praying for it to be anything but marriage. Although she wanted Amelia to be sent far away, Annabelle did not want her to marry a powerful man like Killian Bune.
"Is it about a marriage between the two of you?" Margaret asked. It was the only thing Killian could propose at the moment like this. It was why he was showing them mercy.
"Yes but she has not accepted the offer. If her answer is still no when we discuss it later, I will not force her but one of you will need to come up with a good reason for me to believe the Blackwells will no longer attempt to fight the north," said Killian.
Annabelle thought that it was her time to shine and secure the future of her child. "I am carrying the future king in my stomach. I will raise him to aid the north instead of going against it."
"Are the Blackwells using witchcraft? How are you certain the child in your stomach is a boy? I will not place faith in what you believe, little mistress. Do not bring it up again."
Annabelle shrank back in her seat, annoyed that Killian did not give her a chance. She and Richard had done everything they could to ensure their child would be a boy. She would prove him and everyone else wrong when her child is born.
Killian placed his eyes on Amelia once again. He examined her acting as if she was not present in the room and she was obviously irritated with him for mentioning marriage.
"Although marriage would be a good idea, King Killian, Amelia has been promised to another prince in a neighboring kingdom. We cannot break the arrangement we have with them," Annabelle stated.
"We?" Killian chuckled. He was amused by how the woman spoke as if she was a royal. He only allowed her to be seated here because the child in her stomach had the blood of the king.
He picked up that Amelia and this woman did not have a good relationship. It wasn’t surprising considering the gender of the king’s mistress child threatened the path to the throne the princess desperately wanted.
"I’ve already given the princess the solution. Break it off or I will burn this castle as I wanted. You should be happy the princess has captured my attention. Start thinking of ways to please me while you eat," said Killian.
