The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 322

Chapter 322: Chapter 322

"Leave him to me. Stay here and protect the queen. There will be consequences if you let something happen to her while I am away," Lilith warned the demons standing outside the door.

She looked down the hall at Fraser running for his life, freezing up each time he came face to face with a demon.

Lilith placed her hands behind her back and started to skip after him. This was some of the most fun she had in years so she wanted it to last a bit longer. She had a feeling he was either running to the gates or the temple.

She hoped it wasn’t the latter since she was never fond of churches or temples before she was a demon. Sitting inside one always made her think of the bad things she had done to survive and the priests inside were always judging her though they were the same ones who turned her away before she turned to killing others to survive.

"Slow down!" Lilith called out to Fraser. "You might trip and you don’t want me to carry you into the underworld while you’re bleeding. The hellhounds will get a whiff of you and forever hunt you."

Fraser looked behind him at Lilith skipping behind him with a big smile on her face. There was still a good distance between the two of them for him not to be caught by her and he was so close to the temple. He would soon be safe in the temple where no one could reach him. Not even a human because he planned to barricade the doors.

Fraser looked in front of him, running the familiar path to the temple he rarely visited in the past. There was nothing he ever had to pray for or come to the temple to see. He had no reason to rely on Gods when so much was at his fingertips. The only person he looked to for whatever he needed was his uncle.

It was pointless in the past to waste time praying to Gods who never listened, but now he ran to the temple for shelter.

"Shit," Fraser cursed, changing direction when he stumbled upon a demon. He expected them to chase after him, but he heard the woman following him say words he could not understand, and then there was only one set of footsteps heard behind him.

"I’m not going to die like this," Fraser muttered, pushing himself to run faster. His greatest regret was not pushing himself to learn more sword fighting so he could protect himself now.

It was boring and never suited him as a child since he doubted he would ever have to face a war. As king, he had men who would stand before them and fight. All he needed to do was look good while raising a sword and come up with ideas to win his wars.

Now, there was no one to protect him as they either joined Amelia’s side or ran out of the castle the first chance they got.

If he were to ever see any of them again, it would be the first time he raised his sword to kill someone. They swore their loyalty to the throne therefore they should go down with a fight to protect their king even if the war would end in their deaths.

Lilith’s laughter filled the halls as she continued to follow Fraser whose breathing could be heard from where she was. He was starting to panic that he was not going to make it to wherever he intended to hide like a mouse in a small hole.

"Stop running and come with me to ask your cousin for forgiveness. Unlike me, she has the heart to go easy on you. If you keep running from a predator like myself, it only makes me want to kill you even more. Oh," Lilith said as the temple came into view. "Of course, you would run here. How boring."

A little part of her was hoping he was running to where weapons were kept so he could get one and try fighting her.

Running to the temple was entirely pointless when running away from her. The other lower demons would not enter the temple, but Lilith could. She was once surprised to learn that Lucifer would enter a temple and so did demons like Killian.

They had somehow gotten used to whatever the temple did to demons who entered. The only problem she knew Lucifer faced was that it would melt away the human appearance he wore and show the devil that he was. The temple never allowed the devil to hide among the people who entered the temple for long

There would be a little bit of pain Lilith would have to endure, but it would all be worth it to get rid of one of Amelia’s headaches.

Fraser pulled open the door of the temple and was startled by the sight of the priest lying on the floor with life drained from them. He stepped back, afraid to enter since they were killed inside the one place where they should be protected, but other than the temple, he did not know where to run.

Fraser doubted he could make it to the gates to get out of here and he knew hiding in a room would not keep him alive.

Turning around to see if Lilith was still chasing him, Fraser found her standing in the small garden surrounding the temple. It didn’t make sense for her to catch up with him so quickly when he had been running for his life while she happily skipped.

Fraser backed into the temple, having no choice but to stay there. He kept his eyes on Lilith to make sure she would not somehow appear in front of him. When the doors closed, he kept his hands on them in case Lilith dared pull them open.

After a long moment of silence and there was no attack, Fraser slowly backed away from the door until his foot hit a bench. Mistaking it for Lilith, he turned around with his fists in the air ready to attack. Looking down and seeing that it was only a bench did nothing to calm his heart which felt like it could burst at any second.

Fraser grabbed a handful of his shirt as he tried to catch his breath. The sight of the priests scared him as he feared this was what also awaited him inside the temple.

"I am not dying," Fraser said, bending down to pull the bench toward the door to help stop something from breaking into the temple.

There were enough benches to block the two doors, but he had to move quickly because just as he was moving to keep himself safe inside, he knew Lilith was on the outside looking for her best way in without being harmed by the power of the temple.

This was the first time in years Fraser had done so much work without the help of a servant. He dragged the benches one by one and stacked them on top of each other. Then he did the same to the second door which led to another way of the temple.

He hunched over, trying to catch his breath after the long labour. He needed water to drink or something to eat to give himself the strength to secure the temple, but there was nothing but rotten fruit used as gifts to the Gods and the only thing to drink would be wine.

Then he would have to deal with the foul stench of the dead men along with his hunger and thirst. There would be no choice other than to eat the fruit that were soiled by flies in order to live a bit longer to plan another way out of the castle. He hoped to find another way out hidden somewhere in the temple.

Fraser dragged his feet to the candles that lost their flames and the fruits so that he could lie down to catch his breath. He was tired after not sleeping since he was placed in the dungeon and he refused to eat the food offered to him. He was not a rat to be picking at what Amelia had left over from her dinner and sent down to him.

This was another regret he could add to his list as he was terribly hungry now and tired from running to get here. He should be with his mother wherever she had left the castle to settle down.

Fraser laid flat on the floor and placed his right hand to cover his eyes. He just wanted to cry about where his life was now, but he did not want the demon on the outside to hear him breaking down. He had to hold in his tears and pray that he could make his way out of there.

"King Fraser."

Fraser sat up upon hearing a voice in the temple when he should be the only person there. He looked at the front door, fearing that the demon was getting ready to enter.

"King Fraser," the voice repeated again.

Fraser looked away from the door, following the voice to the body of one of the dead priests.
