The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 311

Chapter 311: Chapter 311

"Mother, how are we going to get out of this?"

"I don’t know," Beth answered Fraser for the hundredth time since they were placed in the dungeon. It was already a headache to deal with Fraser, but now she had to look at the people Amelia was filling up the dungeon with.

"You need to call for her and plead with her to let us out of here. She has the king and his mother trapped in a cell amongst the poor," Fraser spat, disgusted by the sight of the people who were entering the dungeon. "I am still the king!"

"Fraser," Beth sighed as his words were causing problems for her. They were unprotected in the dungeon with the very people Fraser was insulting. The demons guarding the cells would not protect them if a fight were to start. "Sit down and shut up until it is our turn for her to decide what shall happen to us. You should be grateful that your cousin has not killed you."

Fraser looked down at the filthy floor stained with blood and droppings from people relieving themselves. "When have you ever seen a king sit on a floor like this?"

"You are not the king anymore!" Beth raised her voice, in hopes he would listen this time. "You are no longer on the throne. It belongs to Amelia now. I suggest you get used to it quickly. Each time you call yourself the king, the guards look at you. Ready to kill you. They are Killian’s people and to them, he is the only king around here. Sit," she ordered him.

She came to terms with the fact she might lose her son, but she did not want to be left in a cell with his body.

"I am trying to get us out of here-"

"You will get the both of us killed if you do not shut up. You have already forgotten what roams the castle now. Killian Bune is no ordinary man and Amelia does not have to save either one of us. I am telling you to sit quietly so that people here who are mad that their king failed to protect them, will not try finding a way to get into our cell because the guards won’t stop them. Sit," Beth repeated.

She wished Fraser would just listen to her for once without questioning why she said what she said. Everything she said or did was to protect him, but Fraser was hellbent on getting her killed.

She was at the point of looking after herself even though she loved Fraser and wanted him to live. She could not do without her son, but even at this time, Fraser did not stop to think about the gravity of the situation they were in and kept his mouth shut.

Fraser looked around the dungeon, to the places where there was light for him to see the men and women watching him and his mother. Their eyes were either filled with boredom, disgust, or hate. It was not him who put him down here. They should be angry with Amelia who betrayed her people. She laid with demons.

"I planned to get rid of the north, but it was your princess who got in my way. She has laid with that monster," Fraser said, in hopes of riling up the people so they could try escaping and he would make a run out of the castle with his mother.

Beth, for the first time in years, wanted a bottle of rum for herself to get through the day. There was no light other than from the torches to tell her what time of day it was and if she asked the guards, they would not respond. She could only wait for Amelia to be ready to speak to her or Fraser.

"Do as your mother says and shut up. What have you done for us since you have become king?" Someone in the dungeon spoke up as they were tired of hearing Fraser speak.

"I have not placed you in the dungeon as my cousin did-"

"Sooner or later you would have. We have been paying more to the castle since you became king. We were the ones paying for your coronation and for you to place guards at the border which was all pointless. We would have suffered and done more crimes to survive. We would have ended up here one way or the other."

"I took nothing from you for my coronation. That was money I had before I was made king," Fraser denied the claims.

"The men from the court raised the taxes. I told you not to sign it off," Beth said.

The men in court filled Fraser with compliments as they brought papers they wanted him to sign when she was not around to advise Fraser against it. It was signed before she could warn him.

"In the end, the king was poisoned so all our money was spent on nothing," a woman sighed.

Fraser gritted his teeth. It was not his fault they were so poor to not be able to avoid paying a bit more to the king who offered them protection in return. "Look where my cousin has placed you-"

"We do not like the princess either. We did what we had to do to survive. If she was anything like her mother, she would have found a way for us to not need-"

"You humans," a demon hissed. His tongue escaped his mouth like that of a serpent. "She should just let us eat you."

Fraser stepped back, closer to where his mother sat. He had only heard the strange-looking demon laughing, but never had it spoken.

"The queen," the demon spoke slowly in the language of humans that it remembered by listening to Fraser. It tried mimicking his voice to get the words right. "Has given some of your kind a second chance. All of you here are unworthy of a second chance. We shall have your souls...soon," the demon chuckled.

It was only a matter of time before she realised that there was no point in giving out second chances. These people who spoke ill of her should just be killed.

"We have not fed on enough of your souls. We are waiting for you, so argue and try escaping. I will open the door for you," the demon said, showing the key that would open the doors. "I long to try the soul of a king."

"Mother," Fraser said, looking down at his mother for help.

"What do you expect from me, Fraser? To tell it-"

"He," the demon corrected Beth.

Beth frowned. She preferred when the demon did not speak and just ignored her. "To tell him to open the door for you? I have told you to sit down and shut up, but you refused to do both. There is nothing more I can do for you."

Fraser disliked this calm attitude from his mother. She was fighting for him when they were in the throne room, but now that they were out of sight from Amelia, she was acting cold. "You want me to die, don’t you? You have made that very clear with your actions. Jealous that your only claim to the throne was me. It is no wonder why you were called the pitiful princess," Fraser snapped.

Beth gripped her dress, using all her strength not to stand and slap her son. Fraser was taking all his anger out on her since he could not do it to Amelia. She continued to sit quietly, awaiting for when it would be her turn to be judged.
