The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 283

Chapter 283: Chapter 283

After what felt like hours, Amelia dragged herself out of the bathroom, no longer feeling like her skin was on fire.

"I have your breakfast," Gina said, pointing to the food she placed on the table. "Do you need my help? Should I pick out another dress? You were so pretty in this one."

All her effort to make Amelia extra pretty for this special day was wasted.

"There should be another blue and gold dress somewhere around here, but I am just going to lay around in this dress for a little bit longer. It feels nice to be wet," Amelia said, sitting down on her bed.

Her hair was messy now and her dress stuck to her because of the water, but it was much better than what she felt when she was in the temple. All she needed now was food and she would be back to normal.

"Where is Killian?" Amelia asked as she had not seen him since he visited her in the bathroom. It wasn’t time for him to fly up to the north and with Fraser trying to harm him, she would like Killian to be in her sight. "Why are you two so quiet?" Amelia inquired, looking back and forth between Edith and Gina.

"Well, since you have been asleep in the bathroom a lot has happened. I am not sure what exactly occurred, but I heard yelling and the Blackwell guards running around. Killian instructed us to not leave this room and you are not to leave. We are supposed to tie you to the bed if you resist and try to leave."

"Of course, he would trap me here. It would be foolish for anyone of us to leave this room so sit down and eat with me. We need all our energy to prepare for what will soon come. I will get out of this wet dress after I have finished eating," Amelia said. She already felt herself becoming sick from being in the water for so long and now sitting in a wet dress.

Edith was reluctant to sit around and enjoy breakfast with Amelia when she could clearly hear the ruckus in the castle. Killian had started a fight and had them hiding away in this room to protect Amelia. She wanted anyone bold enough to try harming Amelia to come this way.

Edith was itching to kill someone. Have her sword have its first coat of blood in this castle. Her mind was still on Amelia’s grandmother who tried to kill Killian but ended up hurting Amelia. Edith wanted the old woman dead, but Amelia still cared for her grandmother. The moment Amelia would not care, Edith would be ready with her sword.

"The two of you should eat. That food will not fill me and I must listen to what is happening outside," said Edith. She sensed someone that was not a demon outside of the door. The other guards should stop whoever it was and kill them if needed.

While Edith kept her attention on who was outside, Gina placed the breakfast she had managed to tell another maid to bring when they were rushing Amelia back to her room after what happened at the temple.

"How did you get food when you were not supposed to leave my side?" Amelia asked.

"I got another maid-"

"One that you could trust? Please be reminded that this castle has turned into a battlefield. Everyone is looking to kill each other. I am a target as the queen of the north. It is risky," Amelia said, looking down at the food she so desperately wanted to eat.

Before today, she never ate food brought to her here in this castle unless it was from someone she trusted. In the past, she had suspected there was something wrong with her mother’s food that caused her to die. Seeing that the North and Blackwells were already fighting each other, Amelia was suspicious of every little thing. She could not take any chances today.

Taking over the Blackwell castle was not only her dream, but her chance to prove herself to demons like Agramon. Show that, though she was a human, she would not be so easily defeated by having herself poisoned when the true fight had not yet started.

"I will not eat," Amelia decided. "And you should not eat, Gina. Unless," she looked at Edith. "Would you be able to smell if there is something in the food, Edith? Edith?" Amelia called again to get Edith’s attention. "Is someone outside?"

"It smells like your grandmother," Edith answered. She would rather hide this from Amelia, but Killian had already ordered them to let Margaret inside.

"Let her in. Gina, you should hide in my closet and pick out another dress for me. Edith will stay out here with me. I don’t know what other games will be played right now. If she is here to apologise or try to make me stay away from demons," said Amelia.

Meeting with Margaret could go left or right now that Amelia was affected by holy water. Amelia wanted Margaret to forget about any prophecies or Killian being a demon and just listen to her as she always did.

Amelia had this bad feeling in the back of her mind about what she might learn if her grandmother had always known that her mother was raised by witches. Or if she came to find out about it years later and that was why her mother suddenly died.

Aside from the nonsense Margaret suggested when it came to Killian, Amelia held onto her hope that her grandmother was not involved in her mother’s death. To comfort and care for her when she lost her mother, and to be the one behind her grief, would place Margaret far above Richard on the list of people Amelia hated.

Edith waited for Gina to run off to hide and then opened the door.

Amelia sat up straight now that she was in the presence of her grandmother. Margaret had not yet walked into the room, and already the mood in the room had changed.

Amelia knew her grandmother well, so she was aware that Margaret must be fuming inside since her plan to get rid of Killian had been ruined. The priests were most likely dead by now. It was because of Amelia that Margaret was still standing there.

"We are to speak alone," Margaret said, looking directly at Amelia and ignoring the demons that wished to kill her since she had made a move to attack Killian.

"I trust that you would not intentionally harm me, but just to be safe, Edith is staying with me. If you do not like it, then I am afraid that I will not be speaking to you. Please remember that you started this," Amelia said, wanting this to be perfectly clear from the start of their conversation.

Her marriage to Kilian and Kilian’s attack on the temple were all started by her grandmother.

"The priests are dead. You know how important the temple is to our kingdom and to my family," Margaret said, wanting Amelia to understand her anger.

"I have not forgotten how important they are to you, but you tried to attack my husband-"

"He is a demon!" Margaret yelled. "You have brought me shame by picking him over me."

"For the last time, he is my husband. It is your fault for not telling me about demons, priests, and your plans long before I met Killian. You tossed me into his arms, acting like our union was a blessing to the kingdoms as there would be no more war, and now you are upset that I have fallen in love with him. How ridiculous. Did you honestly think that after spending so much time with him, I would just listen to you? Like I cannot follow my heart," Amelia said, wanting to hear Margaret’s logic.

"Did you think I was not capable of falling in love because my heart has been so closed off for years? Or did you think that you had some kind of hold on me and that I would be your little puppet and dance for you when you pulled my strings?" Amelia asked.

"You know that I hate it when my life is planned out for me, and yet, you had all these plans you were never going to tell me about until the last second. I have always known about your schemes and what people in the castle say about you, but you are my grandmother. I should never have to be this concerned about you."

Margaret walked toward the bed Amelia sat on. "I am doing this because I care about you and the rest of this kingdom."

"Well, I am afraid you must count me out of your plans since I have come to love Killian, and I will not sit by while you plot to kill him. Now, there is something more important for us to discuss. Who was the one to kill my mother?" Amelia asked, digging her nails into her skin to suppress her anger. She needed to get answers without blowing up so soon.
