The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 268
Chapter 268: Chapter 268
"Killian, I never had the chance to ask. What was the response you got when you sent word to the Blackwell castle that we were coming?" Amelia asked. She assumed that no one in the Blackwell castle wanted them to come down from the mountain. How had Killian convinced them?
"I never sent a message."
Amelia pushed Killian’s hand away from her face and sat up to look at him. "Please tell me you are joking. You could not possibly have us going to the castle and you have not told anyone we are coming. With the number of people we are travelling with, they will think there is war and prepare to fight," Amelia said, worried about how it would turn out when they reached the border.
"I sent a letter a day before and received a welcome," Alastor said before Amelia could lose her mind. "Killian had instructed me to do so."
"Wonderful!" Amelia sighed in relief. War was coming, but it wasn’t right now. "What do you get out of making me worry?"
"Fun," Killian replied. Seeing her get worked up was always amusing. "Go back to sleep. It is still a long journey down the mountain unless you have changed your mind about flying-"
"No! I shall rest," Amelia said, closing her eyes. She would rather get out of the carriage and start running down the mountain than fly.
Alastor heard from Killian that Amelia was not fond of the way he flew around. Alastor didn’t see why Killian would fly around like a madman when he was with Amelia. Killian was normally a gentle flyer and quiet enough to sneak up on anyone.
Alastor realised that he needed to start studying humans like Killian did so he could understand why Killian would do the opposite of what Amelia wanted. It was either do that or Killian just keep assuming that Killian was a terrible husband.
Alastor would prefer if Killian would let him leave so he could fly down the mountain and get this trip over with. Killian was all the protection Amelia needed. He folded his arms and closed his eyes to get some sleep to make it go by faster.
Killian looked out the window at the passing scenery as the carriage moved, since there was no one to talk to. Thanks to Amelia not wanting to fly, he got to see things he couldn’t see in the air. Travelling in a carriage wasn’t bad, aside from how long they had to wait to reach where they were going.
Amelia could be standing in her former home now if they had flown down. At least he got to enjoy her peacefully resting on his shoulder. The most she would cling to him was when she slept, and she was never aware of it.
By nightfall, just as Killian had planned, their carriage was approaching the Blackwell castle gates.
Amelia was wide awake, ignoring the stares and yelling heard on the outside. Many were still not happy to see those from the north or happy about her marriage. Then there was the fact that Fraser was out to ruin her name. The people could yell at her all they wanted now. Soon they would see that she was only trying to protect them.
On the other hand, Killian thought of cutting out the tongues of those outside. They were disrespecting not only the Blackwell princess, but also the queen of the north. He didn’t feel bad that many of them were going to die soon. They were simple fools who could easily be swayed. They loved Amelia when Killian hid among them, but after their marriage, these people so easily turned on her, like her marriage had not saved them.
Amelia squeezed Killian’s hand, which she didn’t know she had been holding onto. She was back at her second home. A place where she could never truly relax. She was back to claim the throne that always belonged to her. Fraser was merely keeping it warm for her.
Amelia looked up at the steps and saw only Beth waiting for them, with a line of servants behind her. If Amelia didn’t know better, she would think Beth was the queen. All Beth was missing was the crown.
"Regardless of the animosity, Fraser should come to greet royalty. I can already tell that we are in for a few days of wanting to strangle him. You must not, Killian. Dealing with Fraser should be left to me since I have been waiting for this moment. Grandmother!" Amelia’s eyes lit up when she saw Margaret stop beside Beth.
One thing she looked forward to was seeing her grandmother to catch up on all the time they spent apart from each other. Amelia had a few questions about her mother and about the priests that needed to be answered. Amelia was ready to hop out of the carriage and run to her grandmother, but she remembered to act like a queen and move with grace.
Killian opened the carriage door and helped Amelia out. Besides Killian, Amelia, Alastor, Gina, and Edith, there were ten guards to help protect Amelia. He left the others they travelled with at the border.
Killian looked forward to seeing Fraser thinking this would be an excellent opportunity to try to kill them. There were other demons Killian left behind on his last trip to keep an eye on what Fraser and the men in the court were doing.
"Welcome to the Blackwell castle, King and Queen Bune," Beth curtsied before the two. She told Fraser to come out and greet his guest since it was customary for the king, but he did not want to be waiting on the steps for Amelia to arrive.
Fraser was waiting in the throne room to show off that he was now the king of the castle.
"It is good to be back. How are you, aunt Beth?" Amelia greeted her, as it was good to be around family, though she and Beth were never close.
"I am unable to rest, but I am happy to see that you are here and that you are well," Beth replied. She was truly not happy that Amelia was here since it would distract Fraser. He had already started plotting how to kill Amelia and Killian from the moment he was told they would be coming down the mountain. Beth didn’t think they should attack if Amelia and Killian were coming to them peacefully.
"Grandmother," Amelia said, turning to Margaret, who frowned. She had a feeling it was because she had addressed Beth first. "I have missed you dearly. Will you continue to be silent or give me a hug?"
Margaret side-eyed Amelia for speaking to Beth first, then stepped forward to hug Amelia. It was good to have Amelia back in one piece. Now that Amelia was back, Margaret did not intend to let her go back to the north. It was time to get rid of Fraser and place Amelia on the throne where she belonged.
Margaret looked behind Amelia at Killian. She didn’t have much use for him anymore. A demon could not sit on the Blackwell throne.
Amelia pulled away from Margaret and held Killian’s hand. She squeezed it for him to greet her aunt and grandmother.
"It is a pleasure to be welcomed to the Blackwell castle," Killian said.
"We’ve prepared your old room for the two of you. There is also space for your maids and guards. Please follow me. The king awaits you," Beth said, turning around to lead them to the throne room.
Amelia wondered what Beth’s title was in the castle now. She was acting like Fraser had granted her one. It was surprising that Cedric wasn’t here to greet them as if he were the king of the castle. Was Cedric terribly sick now because of the demon Killian had placed on him? She wanted to see the damage the demon was causing Cedric. See him become weak.
It would serve as good revenge for the way he spoke and looked down on her as if he were royalty and she was nothing important.
Amelia took in the sight of the castle she had missed. This was her first home, so it held a special place in her heart even though she enjoyed her new home in the north. She had fond memories of running around the castle with her mother and grandmother.
Amelia noticed a few changes as they walked to the throne room. Like portraits of Fraser where past Blackwell royals should be. Everyone knew that he was king. Was it necessary for him to take down the other portraits of kings before him?
’I should be glad we returned to this castle still standing,’ she thought. Amelia had to give Fraser credit for not having destroyed it.
Amelia looked ahead at the doors of the throne room. It was a place where she had gotten into trouble many times. With her father or the men in the court.
The doors opened wide as they approached, and from where they walked now, Amelia had a perfect view of Fraser sitting on the throne.
