The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 259
Chapter 259: Chapter 259
"She spoke of one of her priests finding something evil amongst the young ladies. They will check and then point out which one had this evilness around them. Picking my bride is on hold now thanks to the temple," Fraser sat back, watching the two get ready to go at it. He was concerned for Cedric’s state, but having him fight with Margaret was more important.
Cedric turned to Margaret who wore a smile, challenging him to question her decision. Her being involved with the temple was causing trouble and it had not been that long yet. He was never one to like how much influence the priests had and even more now that Margaret was controlling the temple. "Those young women came from nobles and-"
"That is where you find most evil. Just because they are the daughters of your friends, does not mean you should want the court to ignore that there is something wrong. I see something evil hovering around you now," Margaret honestly spoke. "You should come to the temple to let us try removing it. The sooner the better."
Cedric, on the other hand, found it to be a joke. "The only thing evil around me, is you lady Margaret. Would you be so kind as to leave the castle so this evil will no longer affect me?"
Margaret chuckled. "I am a Blackwell. An Adams like yourself should make your way out of the castle. You are of no use to the king. I hear his mother will become his right hand."
Cedric looked at Fraser who gulped. That position belonged to him. Cedric was not going out of his way to help this fool of a king just to have no title in the castle. "How could your mother possibly be your right hand? A woman has no idea how the court works-"
"I have been paying attention and doing just fine, Cedric. Given your current state, you are in no position to want such an important job. I shall aid Fraser as his right hand," Beth defended herself. She looked at Fraser, wanting him to defend her.
Fraser didn’t see why this conversation suddenly involved him. He cleared his throat before speaking, "I see my mother as the best fit to aid me in my decisions. Grandfather, there is still room for you elsewhere in the court-"
"A woman cannot get involved in matters of the kingdom. It has never been done and it should not start now. I will not allow it!" Cedric argued. Women had their place, but it certainly was not in the court. It was to serve their husbands and make heirs. Not even the queen was involved in important conversations about her own kingdom.
Annabelle bit her lip, trying not to laugh at the sight before her. The trio was already starting to crumble, and it wouldn’t be long before they tried to kill each other. She made the right choice to stay on Margaret’s side instead of going against her. If only her child were still alive. When Fraser died she would’ve become the mother of the next king.
"You will not allow it? Ha!" Fraser scoffed. "My word is final, and my mother’s position will not change. I suggest you get over it and sit down. You look as though you could faint any second."
Cedric didn’t care to hear about him being sick. He wanted to smack some sense into Fraser for thinking his mother should be his right hand. "Your mother was hardly a princess-"
"Stop it!" Beth exclaimed, standing up to face Cedric. This argument was unnecessary, especially before Margaret who was seeing first-hand that they were falling apart. It would be a good chance for her to strike when they were busy fighting each other. "I suggest you stop arguing with the king’s decision unless you want to be kicked out of the castle."
Cedric stood unphased by Beth’s words. He wondered when she had gotten this bold. To have the audacity to have an affair and then to be speaking back to him right now. He always told his son to give her a little slap whenever she fell out of line, but he refused to do so. Now look at Beth. If not for others around him, he would punish her as he saw fit. Another princess acting out of turn.
’It is good that I did not miss dinner," Margaret smiled. She always knew the three before her would never last. They all had something they wanted and were not willing to share it with the person beside them.
Fraser wanted to rule on his own, Beth wanted to feel like she was queen, so she was living through Fraser, and Cedric wanted to rule the castle, having Fraser as his puppet.
Margaret could sit back and let the three of them go at each other. Fraser and Beth up against Cedric. She would only need to come in at the last second to kill off who was remaining and then have Amelia come down from the mountain to take her rightful seat on the Blackwell throne. Margaret would deal with cutting off Killian. A demon could not sit on the Blackwell throne.
Unable to hold back, Annabelle’s laughter interrupted the feud. "This castle has gone to shit," she chuckled, holding her stomach. Since Richard died, nothing has been normal about the castle. "Honestly, this place is starting to lose its touch. I’m almost feeling like I don’t want to be here anymore. There is nothing grand about the castle," she said, looking around the hall.
Call her crazy, but she would give anything to go back to the days when the only arguments here were between her and Amelia. Back then, she was so close to having everything. Now she had to watch these fools, who came and took from her, fight with each other. Annabelle wanted them all to drop dead.
"The castle has gone to ruins if the former king’s mistress can laugh at us," Cedric agreed with Annabelle. "Fraser, end this now by removing your mother as your right hand. Let her use her princess title once more and call it a day for her. Women must not get involved in men’s business. She could never help you in a time of war."
"Enlighten us when you have been involved in a war to be helpful to Fraser? You have never picked up a sword to fight a battle. You have always used your words. I am no different from the men in court who have never once joined a battle to be able to make decisions. Is that not why we lost when King Killian came down from the mountain? I would only give up my position if you find someone who has been to war. Like Leonard," Beth suggested.
Beth desperately wanted Leonard back so the generals and other men angered by his absence could be on Fraser’s side. Offering the position of the king’s right hand should be enough for Leonard to return. He would get to offer Fraser advice on how to do what was right for the kingdom and how to win wars. She also wanted him to guard Fraser.
Also, there was something about Leonard and Anne that she thought would be useful in the future, so Leonard should be close by for when the time came to reveal it.
