The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 256
Chapter 256: Chapter 256
"I need her out of the castle now, mother."
Beth had no answer for Fraser, as she had not thought of a way to get Margaret out of the castle. Cedric’s plan was soiled quickly, and now Margaret roamed the castle protected not only as a former queen but as the new head priest. They could do nothing to her at the moment.
"Mother!" Fraser called his mother, who was ignoring him. It was her job to get rid of Margaret since she claimed he could not use his power as king. "I want her gone right now."
"If I had a plan, I would have started it already. I need time to think and to plot how we will do this," Beth replied.
"What was the point of getting me all those allies if that cannot get rid of Margaret for me?" Fraser questioned, annoyed that no one was truly helping him.
"They are your allies to help if King Killian were to come down the mountain again. You are to marry one of their daughters if you wish for them to get involved in castle affairs. Their daughters will be coming to the castle for you to pick one carefully. You’ll be stuck with her for many years."
Fraser leaned back against the throne. "I have not been king for long. I do not want to take anyone as my queen yet to share the throne. Is there a way for me to drag out getting married? Have her sit in the castle or do something to please her father?"
Beth pinched the bridge of her nose. If Fraser wasn’t her son, she would want him off the throne. She had not taught him well enough for him to grasp why his marriage was so important. "Whatever young lady you pick, her father will not sit by and let you waste her time. They will want her to be named queen right away and for an heir to be made. When you marry, her family will come to your aid against enemies like Margaret."
"They’ve sworn to join you against Killian, but none have come to help you with Margaret because they see it as an opportunity for you to accept one of their daughters in exchange for help with your enemies in the castle-"
"That does not make sense. Why wouldn’t they have wanted me to marry one of their daughters when I asked for help with Killian? He is a bigger threat than Margaret," said Fraser.
Beth walked closer to the throne so she could slap Fraser if needed. "Killian is a threat to the kingdom. To the lands these nobles own. Unless they form an alliance with Killian before the war, they know that if war happens, Killian will kill them. That is why they will join your army to protect their land. Margaret is only your enemy. Your issues with her do not affect them, so they can use it to their advantage."
"Oh," Fraser realised.
"A queen by your side will not ruin your time as king. She will be there to produce your heirs, who will take after you and have your name passed down for generations. Pick wisely which young lady you wish to have. It is a decision that only you can make. I want the choice to be completely your own so later on, you can blame no one," said Beth. She did not want him to be in her position, where the choice was made for her and she had to live hating that choice.
"I have my ideal woman for a queen in mind already. Someone who is quiet and listens to my commands. I can always be like my uncle and have women who arouse me in my chambers. There have already been a few there," Fraser smiled as he recounted the wonderful night he had. Women were throwing themselves at his feet so they could raise their status.
"So I’m told," Beth muttered. She wasn’t pleased by it since the new queen’s family won’t take well to there already being competition for Fraser’s time. "You must not let any of those women become pregnant with your child. The next king must come from you and your queen. I will not let any other woman’s child sit on the throne."
"I would never do such a thing, mother. Have a little faith in me. Those women are only for fooling around to relieve myself of the stress that comes with being king. Speaking of whores, has anything been done to get rid of the bastard my uncle left behind? His future king," Fraser chuckled as the child lost its title to him before it even saw the light of day.
"Annabelle does not leave her room. The woman has enough common sense to know there are dangers that await her and the child in her womb. I have failed to understand why Margaret is shielding her. The two hated each other, and Margaret would never let a bastard child take the throne. Annabelle will be easier to get rid of than Margaret. You should deal with her," said Beth.
Fraser placed his thumb in his mouth and bit at the nail. "How would I do that?"
"Say that you wish to offer her a home where she can rest outside of the castle, and then she can return when the child’s birth is near. Kill her before the time comes and blame it on a maid taking care of her. You must not let Margaret continue to shield Annabelle. Margaret might be a priest now, but you are king, and you have command over Annabelle. Make it an order before breakfast tomorrow."
"Why not now?" Fraser inquired since he wanted Annabelle gone now.
"You cannot send her out of the castle at this late hour when the home for her is not yet prepared. You would have to wait until morning, which would give Margaret enough time to plot. Leave it until morning. We must talk later. It is nearing time for dinner," Beth said, looking out a window at the changing sky.
