Chapter 253: Chapter 253
"There’s something more to this one," Sybil said, taking a step closer to Amelia, but not close enough for Amelia to see her. "Is she one of those children?"
"She is," Killian folded his arms.
"Give me a bit of her blood and I’ll do any spell or potion for free for the rest of your lives. I’ll take letters to Anne for as long as you need. Turn anyone into a frog. You name it," said Sybil. Amelia was now more valuable than Killian’s wings.
"I don’t want to share my blood with anyone," Amelia replied, suspicious of what Sybil would do with her blood.
Sybil was helpful and she seemed to know her mother well, but she was still a witch. Amelia didn’t want any part of her to be given to someone for a spell or potion. Not even to the witches who raised her mother. It was better to be safe than sorry. It should be enough that a demon had her heart in the palm of his hands.
Sybil rolled her eyes. "It is not good to be selfish with your body. I would give you a part of my body if you needed it."
"Then I will have to continue to be selfish. I will not be giving you my blood or even a single strand of my hair. How are you able to tell that I am this golden child? No one, but Killian has mentioned it to me. No, wait. There was someone who hinted at knowing. If you can tell so easily, does that mean others will be able to see it soon?" Amelia asked, worried about what meant for her time in a castle full of demons.
Amelia wanted to turn into a demon before it would be known that she was this golden child. She still did not know what it honestly meant to be this special child, though Killian explained it to her. She would like to point out that she was hardly a child.
’Even though I am Queen, I am just a simple human. How could I ever do something to bring chaos to the world? I would never be a ruler who hurts her people. Unless it would happen if I were to become a demon. What if I were to turn into some crazed demon who could not control herself?’ Amelia started to panic.
Killian looked away from Sybil to Amelia who was going through a series of facial expressions. It was always entertaining that he could visually see when she was having a breakdown on the inside.
"That’s enough," he patted her head to stop her from worrying about whatever was suddenly on her mind. There was a certain glow to her that was getting brighter, but it didn’t matter with him around. There would be no one to lay a hand on his wife. Not even Lucifer himself.
"I can’t help that I’m a bit of an overthinker. It helps me prepare for the worst possible situations. Now that we’ve sort of dealt with my mother, and the potion to help with me sleeping is still brewing, can we move on to me having a spell that would block out demons from hearing what I am saying? I need it right away because the only safe place is our bedroom," said Amelia.
She needed to be able to talk in the moment and not worry that someone was eavesdropping.
"I need one that is really strong so even Lucifer would have trouble listening in to my conversation. I will need two of those spells," Amelia added since Gina would also need one.
"That’s a bit of a pricey request. Good thing you’re the Queen. I’ll need something to put the spell on. A crown, a necklace, or something else you will wear when you don’t want to be heard. I’ve never tried this other method before, but I could attempt to place the spell directly on you and you chant a few words when you don’t want anyone out of arm’s reach from you to hear. You would be the perfect test- I mean choice for this. What do you say?" Sybil extended her hand out into the light for Amelia to hold.
Amelia looked down at Sybil’s hand which reminded her of a fish because of all the scales. Then there were her dark nails and wrinkles on her fingers. ’How old is-"
"I can feel you judging me!" Sybil yelled, pulling her hand back. "What happened there is nothing scarier than what I saw in the library? You’re already a liar like your husband."
"I wasn’t judging you. I was just curious since I have never seen a witch before. I was serious when I say nothing scares me more than the demon in the library. I’ve seen the devil’s skin start to peel before me, but it doesn’t compare to how scary- Ah!" Amelia gasped when Sybil stepped out of the darkness. "I didn’t gasp because you’re scary. I did it because I didn’t expect you to come out. Compared to the new demons in the castle, you’re normal. Do all witches look like this?"
Amelia could point out a few animals that Sybil reminded her of.
"No. Some are pure or called white witches. They don’t like to meddle with dark magic like I do so they get to keep their pretty image. Each change on my body shows a risk I took for a spell. I do not regret any of it. I am not like you with a husband or a man in my life to care about my looks anymore. And my days of luring human men into my cave with my looks are over," Sybil said as she walked around Amelia to get what she needed for Amelia’s spell.
Amelia heard something dragging and looked down at the floor. Her eyes widened at the tail dragging behind Sybil. "I see," she replied. To think there were people like this living all around both kingdoms, but she had been clueless about it when she lived as a princess. "I wouldn’t mind trying to have the spell placed directly on me."
"I do," Killian objected. Sybil was a talented witch, but was he going to let her try this spell for the first time on his wife? No. "Test it out on someone else first and then we’ll think about it. Put the spell on a ring and necklace for now."
Killian held Amelia’s hand and slid off one of the rings used to decorate her finger.
"Who am I to test it out on? There are no humans here in the north and I cannot waste my time chasing after demons to cage one. Unless you will be so kind as to kidnap a human again," Sybil rubbed her hands at the thought.
Amelia looked to her side at Killian. "You’ve kidnapped humans for witches?"
"Sybil," Killian sighed, reaching the end of his limit with the woman. "Are you trying to ruin my marriage?"
"I did think of it. She should already know the type of person you are. You’re a demon who has killed thousands of humans during your reign as king of the north and when you used to wander around. You’ll be killing a lot more when all those demons crawl out of the underworld for war," Sybil revealed. "I plan to close up my cave when that time comes."
"What? All demons? There will be demons coming out of the underworld for war?" Amelia questioned, deeply confused by this news. Why did Sybil know, but she did not?
