The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 248
Chapter 248: Chapter 248
Breakfast was more civil than Amelia anticipated with so many powerful demons in one room. Agramon had shown up to breakfast since Lucifer was there but he was silent. Amelia figured he was starting to seriously consider her offer and think more about if he wanted to become king of the north.
Once Amelia had finished eating she went off her own way from Killian and the others to meet up with Gina and Edith. She needed to visit the library, but first, she made her way to Cyrus’s room so she could walk with him to the gates to see him off.
Sometimes Amelia felt like Cyrus did not know how to take care of himself so she needed to check on him to make sure he was taking food with him before he left.
"I don’t sense him inside," Edith said when they reached Cyrus’s room. "I might be wrong-"
"No," Amelia said, knowing Edith had not sensed wrong. "He must have left already. Let’s move on to the library. I have a busy day."
Gina thought they should try searching the castle to see if Cyrus was elsewhere. "But Cyrus-"
"Will find us to say the last goodbye if he is still here in the castle. I cannot waste time looking for Cyrus when the month shall move quickly and I have issues with my cousin to think about. If you wish to search for him, so be it. I will not hold you back," Amelia said, turning around to go to the library.
Edith gave Gina a look before following behind Amelia. Gina should know to pick the Queen first. Gina had one job which was to serve the Queen and stick by her side. Edith liked Cyrus, but she was deeply annoyed by how he had distracted Amelia with his exit. Cyrus had a position many would fight to have, but he gave it up to search for a woman who was going to get herself killed in the future.
Edith looked over her shoulder when she heard Gina hustling to catch up to them. ’Good choice,’ she thought.
"I’m sorry," Gina apologized when she caught up to Amelia. "I just wanted to-"
"I know, but we must move on. Edith, why aren’t the other demons going back to the lands they ruled yet? Why does it feel like the numbers keep increasing? Surely they aren’t sticking around until the month ends to see what I am doing as Queen. One of them said something about war and the table got quiet like I was not meant to know about it. Have you heard about war? Perhaps with the Blackwells?" Amelia asked as she found the others to be acting strange. Even Killian.
Amelia noticed Killian had gotten angry when the topic of war was brought up. Killian promised she would know what was happening with the kingdom, but it seemed like he was already keeping secrets from her.
"I have heard weapons are being prepared but they are coming from the underworld. There is a fight the North and others are preparing for. You should ask the king," said Edith.
"My husband seems to be keeping secrets from me. I know that should Fraser do something stupid, we would attack, but what does that have to do with weapons from the underworld and the other demons? I am finding it to be strange that Lucifer and Lilith have not yet returned to the underworld. What is everyone waiting to see or am I reading too far into nothing? Killian would inform me," Amelia muttered, feeling like she should trust that Killian would tell her about war.
"If you hear anything about a war please tell me, Edith," Amelia said, wanting to be careful in case Killian wanted to hide it to protect her.
"Do you really think the North and the Blackwells would go back to fighting each other?" Gina asked, worried for the family she left behind. If there was a possibility of war, she wanted to send them a letter to get as far away from the Blackwell castle as possible.
"It is possible since no truce was formed and Fraser may feel he has to prove himself since the north made a fool of my father. I hate to say it but a truce will never happen between the two lands unless Fraser is off the throne. I need the two of you to help me look for every type of demon and see if you can find something on priests," Amelia said as she entered the library. "I want to-"
"Quiet!" A chilling voice exclaimed.
"My apologies," Amelia whispered. She remembered Kilian telling her that the demon in charge of the library was scary. "I want to find the history of priests and demons."
Amelia had not forgotten her grandmother being in a room full of priests. She wanted to learn more about the priest since her father’s side had a history of killing demons and now she was married to a demon.
Amelia had to know what this meant for her children who would share their father’s blood. Why is her grandmother all for this marriage if she knew about demons and the fact that her family once hunted them? Was there some bigger picture?
Amelia had started to feel like there were too many things she was not aware of. Instead of relying on what Margaret vaguely told her about the priest and constantly having to ask Killian, Amelia wanted to learn for herself.
Amelia, Gina, and Edith split up so they could cover more of the big Library,
Amelia went straight toward a table in the middle of the room where many books had been piled up. This was where she had heard the voice telling her to be quiet. "Hello," Amelia softly spoke to get the attention of the librarian. "Can you please tell me where there are books on priests?"
A repeated cracking noise was heard over Amelia’s head. She stepped back and looked up to see what was making the noise. A gasp left her lips and her eyes widened when she saw a large hand with only bones pointing in a direction for her to go. "Thank you," Amelia replied, looking away so her stare would not anger the demon.
Amelia looked at the pile of books one more time to try to see the face of the demon who ran the library, but the books prevented her from doing so. The demon had practically buried themselves in books and just wanted everyone to be quiet.
Amelia stopped at a shelf with books titled in a strange language she could not understand. ’This must be a language demons understand,’ she took a black book from the shelf. ’No!’ She internally screamed when a book almost fell out when she pulled out the book she wanted, but Amelia caught it in time.
Amelia sighed in relief and looked at where the librarian sat. She narrowed her eyes when she saw eyes peeking at her through the spaces of the books. What freaked her out was the fact she was being watched by someone who had not shown her their face, but it was a fact there were multiple eyes watching her like there was more than one person there.
Killian only spoke of one demon so there was no one else but the one librarian here.
Amelia thought she had seen it all the day of her coronation when she saw all the different demons, but there was still more to freak her out.
When a noise was made on the other side of the room, some of the eyes looked away from Amelia to where the noise came from and there was the warning to be quiet, but this time, the voice sounded angry.
Amelia was more scared of the demon that was hiding here in the library than the devil. She feared making another noise and then facing the demon’s anger. Would it be better to take the books and read them elsewhere? She was too scared to even approach the demon again to ask if she could take books.
Deciding to stay and be very quiet, Amelia grabbed more books and slowly walked to the nearest table so she could sit down and read.
’It would be so helpful if the title wasn’t in another language,’ Amelia said as she had no idea what book contained what.
Amelia opened the first book and found it to be written in the same language she could not understand. The only thing she could understand was the drawings of a few creatures she had seen at the coronation. Amelia closed the book and moved on to another. ’Again with this language. Why did no one warn me about this?’ She thought, flipping through the books.
Amelia sighed, ready to close the book, but something caught her attention. "I’ve seen this," she whispered, flipping back through the pages to find a drawing of a necklace. "Here it is. Where have I seen you? Was Lilith wearing it? What would it take for me to understand these books?"
The cracking noise was heard again, causing Amelia to jump. Amelia looked at the pile where the librarian was hidden, but there was no movement. She looked back at the book and to her surprise, the words were moving around until they stopped at a language she could understand.
"Thank you," Amelia whispered to the librarian.
"Quiet."
