Chapter 184: Chapter 184

"Have you heard something about me? If so, what is it?" Amelia inquired. For a moment, she saw anger in Killian’s eyes and knew there had to be something he heard about her. "Is it about the two of us tonight? It is," she confirmed when he looked at her. "I’ve heard plenty of things people say about wedding nights, Killian. Don’t pay their words any mind."

"You are not to be disrespected. I will take care of them. Excuse me for a moment," he said after Alastor caught his eye. Alastor’s appearance meant something might be wrong. "Do not cause trouble while I am away. I do not want to miss it."

"I cannot promise you anything," Amelia replied as Killian kissed the back of her hand before leaving. ’I wonder where they teach demons to act like gentlemen?’ She wondered.

"Princess. Oh, my mistake. You are Queen Amelia now."

Amelia’s mood changed when Cedric of all people was by her side. She knew him calling her princess was no mistake. Everything was calculated when it came to Cedric. "Hello, Mr. Adams. It is a surprise to see you here tonight. Invitations were meant for my relatives and men of the court. It seems the people of this kingdom should have been invited."

"Fraser extended the invitation to me and since many of your relatives have not shown up, I have not taken anyone’s seat. Besides, you might not have heard yet but I will soon be joining the court. I will help strengthen Fraser’s court," said Cedric.

Amelia wasn’t surprised by this and said, "Of course, you would want to stick close to your grandson now that he is becoming king. I hope no one questions how you are able to get into the court so easily when one would have to study for years for which part of the court they wish to join. I don’t recall you studying but it is good to have connections."

Cedric continued to smile, unaffected by Amelia’s words. She was smart and slick with her tongue. Two qualities he wished his grandson had. "I brought you a drink. It must have been a couple of hours since you had something to eat or drink. I remember how my sister refused to eat anything to fit into her wedding dress."

Amelia eyed the two cups in Cedric’s hands. "I had plenty to drink before the wedding started so I am not thirsty but thank you for the offer. It has been somewhat pleasant speaking with you but I must meet with other guests. Excuse me."

Amelia left Cedric’s side, thinking of how he must think of her as a fool to accept a drink from him. She wouldn’t put it past Cedric to slip something inside the drink to either poison her or lead her to not have children. She watched this game play out many times in the castle for her to fall for such tricks.

"Queen," Edith came to Amelia’s side. She noticed the annoyed expression on Amelia’s face instead of happiness. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes. Wait, would you be able to tell if there is something off about any food or drink before I consume it?" Amelia asked.

"I can smell if there is something odd lingering in the scent of the food. I can tell when I taste it. I had a liking for drinking the poisons your kind makes. It is like alcohol for me. Do you suspect someone wants to poison you?" Edith replied, looking around at the many eyes on Amelia.

"There is always someone trying to kill me. There are many who don’t want me to have children. I will not eat tonight but I would like for you to keep an eye on anyone who approaches me with food or drinks. Also, if they have a smell you do not recognize on them, tap my arm for us to leave. I should have brought Loki for him to eat anyone who tries harming me," Amelia muttered.

"You should be careful with wanting him to be here. If you have bonded with a hellhound, they can feel when you want them and they will show up."

"Really? Then Loki must not like Killian if he continuously ignores when Killian wants him. I have to mingle with the guest a bit before we sit down to eat and then start the truce between the two kingdoms. It’s going to be a long couple of hours. Keep an eye on the man I was just speaking to and my cousin. They are the ones to cause the most trouble," Amelia said, watching Fraser amongst the group of court men.

"Understood," Edith replied. She eyed the man who was Amelia’s cousin and found him to be handsome. Certainly worth one night but then a knife in the head in the morning to be rid of him. She noticed the way her king eyed the future Blackwell king like he wanted to set him on fire.

"And I-oh," Amelia paused when her eyes fell on Leonard. He stood not too far away from her with a smile on his face. She was curious as to how he was present. "Leonard, this is a surprise," she said as she approached him.

"Your grandmother brought me here as a guard. That is the only way I could ever attend. Thought you would like to have another familiar face here. I have to stay out of sight of your cousin since he is not pleased I have stopped working in the castle. It was time I put down my sword and do things my own way," Leonard informed Amelia.

Amelia feigned shock since she was aware Leonard had left the castle thanks to Killian’s updates. "It is good to see you here. I do consider you family though we are not blood-related. It is a plus that your presence will make Fraser angry. Now I really wish I had you walk me to the altar so my father would be rolling around in his grave while my mother smiled."
