The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 178
Chapter 178: Chapter 178
"I will let that threat slide since it is your wedding day and the bride must not be riled up. You look calm for someone who will be marrying a man with a bad reputation," said Fraser.
"Did you think I would be crying my eyes out and begging to be taken home? I wouldn’t give you the satisfaction Fraser. That is something you should say to the woman who will have to marry you. Now, what is it that you wish to say to me? I know you have not come to congratulate me so spit it out," Amelia urged him so they could get past their usual bickering.
"I am only here to congratulate you, dear cousin. There is no need for you to always be so aggressive. This is a special day for the north and my kingdom," Fraser replied, forcing a smile as his mother wanted.
"You have not wasted any time referring to it as your kingdom. It is sad to see that nothing about you has changed. Rather than speaking with me, you might enjoy speaking with Killian. He must be somewhere in a tent for you to annoy him instead of me. Thank you for the congratulations but you should be on your way," Amelia said, completely over the conversation though it had only just begun.
Fraser wished to let Amelia have a piece of his mind but with Margaret present, it would be two against one. This was why he wanted his mother to come into the tent at the same time as him. His mother was waiting on the outside for when his turn was over and then she would come inside.
"There is nothing Killian Bune and I need to speak about. Cousin, why are you surrounding yourself with so many northerners?" Fraser asked when his eyes settled on Edith.
"I am now living in the north. Who else am I to surround myself with if not the northerners? Do you never get tired of making stupid comments?" Amelia asked, wishing to understand how his brain works. "Fraser, I am happy that you put your fear aside-"
"Fear?" Fraser scoffed. "There is nothing that I fear."
"Really?" Amelia replied then she looked behind Fraser. "Then I was wrong about that, Killian."
Fraser quickly looked behind him to check for Killian but found no one to be there. He gritted his teeth, angered by Amelia’s games to embarrass him in front of everyone present.
"Hmm, I think you need to be more honest with yourself Fraser. Luckily the north and the Blackwell kingdom are no longer feuding so you can sleep peacefully at night. After that reaction I am sure you do not want to speak with me any longer so I shall see you later when the wedding starts," Amelia said, looking away from him.
"You should go out and greet the people who have come down from the north for this wedding. Try not to get yourself killed or plunge the two kingdoms back into war with your words. Socialize and find friends to make from the north," Margaret offered him advice. She was not on the best terms with Fraser but she wanted what was best for the kingdom.
Fraser did not respond to Margaret’s advice which he felt was not needed. He was not a little boy who needed to have his hand held and pointed in the direction he needed to go. As someone who dreamed of being king from a young age, he already knew what had to be done.
A former queen who couldn’t save her son or granddaughter was not on his list of people he would take advice from. After their last conversation, Fraser wished she would stop trying to act like his grandmother and remain quiet.
’I need to get rid of her soon,’ Fraser thought while he left Amelia’s tent. There was the stupid order Kilian gave that Margaret needed to approve his orders as king before they could be implemented which Fraser did not plan to honor. ’I need to get rid of her without my mother knowing or any clues that it was me.’
As Fraser stormed away, Beth tried to grab onto his arm to stop him but he ignored her presence. She knew his visit with Amelia would end in trouble which was why she wanted him to go first so she could clean up the mess afterward. No matter how much she talked to her son he was too stubborn to control his anger.
Amelia and Margaret would always have something to insult him about when he made it so easy for them.
Beth took a deep breath before entering the tent. "Princess," she greeted Amelia with a curtsy. "Lady Margaret," she bowed her head at Margaret.
"Aunt Beth, it is nice to see that you are here. I hope your trip to the border was pleasant," Amelia spoke with a kind tone to her aunt. She had a strange relationship with her aunt sometimes but her aunt was far better than her cousin.
"Yes, it was surprisingly good. I got to see parts of the kingdom I have never ventured to before thanks to your wedding. One day I hope to see what the north is like. I came to congratulate you and see if there is any advice you would like to have for your new life as a wife," said Beth.
"It is being a queen that I would prefer to have advice on and I was hoping to speak with my grandmother when we get a moment alone. Being a wife is the easy part but thank you for coming to offer advice," Amelia replied, offering Beth a smile so she would not be offended by what was said.
Amelia’s time in the north and around Killian gave her an idea of the life she would have as his wife. Thus far they were able to communicate with each other so she didn’t need to take advice from a woman about what to do and what not to do.
To not let Beth feel like she was being dismissed Amelia asked, "I would like to hear how you calmed your nerves on your wedding day if you do not mind."’
Beth’s growing annoyance faded after hearing Amelia’s words. "Very well," she took a seat opposite where Margaret sat.
