Chapter 164: Chapter 164

"You will go to bed faster if I help you. By now I thought you could trust that I have no intentions of bedding you. I will do nothing after helping you take off your dress," Killian said, watching Amelia from the chair which gave him a clear view of her struggling to get off her dress.

Amelia sighed, giving up her attempt to untie the back of her dress. It was tied as if she was never meant to take it off. She glanced at Killian eagerly waiting to help her. "Please help me," she said.

"See, that wasn’t so hard," Killian said, placing his cup on the table as he stood up. He walked over to where Amelia stood to help her.

"Are you drinking alcohol again?" Amelia frowned.

"No. It is water. I don’t plan on worrying you by constantly drinking alcohol even though alcohol doesn’t have the same effect on me as it does with your kind. I am only drinking it less to please you."

"If it has no effect on you then there is no problem with you drinking it," Amelia replied.

"Your mind will continue to picture me as your father who seems to drink a lot. I can do without drinking it unless it comes from the underworld. That one is exquisite. Did you wish to choke yourself before the wedding? Why is it so tight?" Killian asked as he looked at the knot before attempting to undo it.

Amelia closed her eyes after she felt Killian’s warm hands on her back. His touch sent a wave of emotions throughout her body and she was certain he felt her shudder. "Killian, I don’t want to prolong us having children after we are married," she said.

Killian looked up from the knot he was about to open to Amelia. "Did someone rush you?"

"No. It won’t benefit us or the Blackwell kingdom if we wait till I have a better relationship with you to have a child. It is not like this isn’t normal. Newlyweds start trying for a child on their wedding night. It is what everyone expects. Ow," Amelia winced after Killian pulled the strings of her dress.

"I didn’t know I was getting married to everyone and since when did you care for what everyone expected of you as a woman?" He asked, curious about what changed her mind so quickly.

"It won’t be before Fraser gets married and he will start trying to have his heir. If you get rid of him before he has an heir another one of my relatives will be named king unless I have a child to offer. Then we will face another issue. I cannot give up the child meant to take over the north so I will need to have two-Oww. Can you stop that?" Amelia asked, turning to face Killian.

"If I was concerned about us not having a child in time I would not have proposed that we wait. There is no need to worry about it. I have everything planned out. Can’t say I am not tempted to start trying now. I hope that eased your mind. Done," he released the strings.

"If we start trying to have a child after our wedding, my mind will be at ease. Not because it will make everyone else happy but because I want to guarantee that I will have a child to sit on this throne and the Blackwell one. What if we wait too long and then I am unable to conceive? What then?"

She heard numerous times that the longer young women later the lower their chances they had to become pregnant. This was why her father was angered by her every attempt to not get engaged when she turned sixteen. She was already viewed as a spinster by many.

"We will deal with that when the time comes," Killian replied.

"The only reason we were waiting was that I needed to be ready for it. I am now-"

"Are you truly comfortable with me? Do you trust me? I have been kind to you but you remain guarded and push me away sometimes," Killian said as he went back to his seat.

"I," Amelia started to speak but she paused to think about her answer. "I can’t help being guarded around everyone. Even you. I don’t trust you completely and you shouldn’t trust me. There are things about you that I do not know so I find myself questioning your motives but I do trust you. Enough to sleep in a bed with you."

Amelia slowly walked to where Killian was. "I will try my best to show you that I trust you. I will continue to let down my walls around you and be kind. I shouldn’t be so guarded around the man I am spending the rest of my life with. I hope you understand that it is not easy for me to stop being so defensive when I have always constantly needed to protect myself but I am comfortable with you."

"Prove it."

"What? How am I to prove it? Isn’t being alone like this and having a conversation enough?" Amelia asked.

It wasn’t enough for Killian. They had been alone in a room before she came to the north so he needed to test what had changed. "Come," he patted his leg for her to sit on.

Amelia didn’t see how sitting on him would prove anything. "What does this solve?" She asked.

"Are you scared to just sit on my lap? You do know making a child requires more contact than this. I wonder if you will handle..." Killian trailed off when Amelia marched up to him and sat on his lap. She pushed it further by placing her hand around his neck. "You hate to lose, don’t you."

"I do. I told you that I am comfortable. Was this honestly enough for you to be convinced? Do I need to do more?" Amelia asked, for a moment eyeing his lips she wanted to feel again.
