Chapter 156: Chapter 156
Amelia disliked his willingness to let her strangle him. It would not be satisfying if he would allow her to do as she wanted. She contemplated using the gifts she had received from her grandmother to stab him but it would only start a war.
"You should be thankful to have a lot of luck. If you were a normal person I would have strangled you. I have not solved the matter yet but it will be taken care of soon. I proposed a challenge. Each side will present its best five fighters and whoever wins the most matches shall keep the land. You and I will be there to watch the fight. I figured the best way to get them into this idea was with something they do frequently."
"Well done," Killian applauded her.
"Well done my ass. Why haven’t you taken care of this issue long ago? Do you like seeing villages on fire and people with spears pinning them to the ground? I am starting to question if you truly are a king who cares for his people," Amelia said as she sat down beside him. Why let it go on this long?
"If what you witnessed today bothers you this much then I should never take you to the underworld. They are always going to fight over foolish things because they love chaos and the adrenaline rush at the sight of blood. I could have sent them back to the underworld but as they have done nothing wrong, they will come back here so why bother?" Killian shrugged.
"So, you sent me there to just give me something to occupy myself with? You aren’t making it easy for me to like you. Can’t you just close the gate to the underworld or something?" She didn’t see why he would keep them here if their only interest was killing each other.
"I am not the one in charge of the gates. I only monitor what comes out or goes in. How many times must we go through this? Hasn’t your tutor taught you even the basics?" Killian asked since he instructed someone to provide her with a bit of information.
"No one showed up this morning so I went straight to the tour after breakfast. I will remain inside the castle tomorrow since my dress must be fitted and there are wedding plans I have to say yes or no to. I will spend my free time in the library to learn more by myself. Now that we are all caught up, goodbye."
Amelia stood up and walked to where the pile of her belongings was placed and took out the doll that was on top of the fairytale books.
"What started your interest in voodoo?" Killian asked as he watched her.
"For the last time, this is not a voodoo doll. This is a doll I played with in my youth. It was given to me by my mother to play with. What makes you think it is a voodoo doll?" Amelia asked, intrigued by what part of the doll made him think this.
Killian drained the last of the alcohol in his cup and said, "The fact that it is a voodoo doll. Your mother had strange things around for you to play with. Was she into witchcraft?"
"No. My mother would never play around with that sort of stuff since it is frowned upon in the castle. I don’t want to believe she would let me play with a voodoo doll. You are sure?" Amelia asked once again because she failed to believe her mother gave her a voodoo doll.
Killian wasn’t a fan of the repeated questions about the voodoo doll. He had not seen it from the first time he laid eyes on the doll when they were back in the Blackwell castle. "If I take it to anyone else in the castle they would also call it a voodoo doll. Since it is frowned upon, it would make sense for your mother to take part in the craft in secret."
Amelia placed the doll on the table. "I played with this thing as a child. I even slept with it so why? I could have been punished for playing with this. I am seeing now why I could only play with it in her room or mine. Why would my mother get involved with witchcraft? She was a simple woman."
"Was she really? Was she without secrets?"
Amelia looked down at her mother’s diary she had turned into fairy tales to stop others from taking it. "It seems that I didn’t know her that well. You won’t share any secrets I tell you right?"
"Cross my heart," Killian said, pretending to mark where his heart should be.
"That doesn’t do much for me since it is debatable whether or not you do have a heart. My mother turned her diaries into these fairytales she would tell me as a child. I thought there was nothing about them but the characters in the books are actual people in the castle. I have a faint memory of there being a witch in the story but the witch was trying to harm the princess so it didn’t seem like my mother was fond of witches," said Amelia.
"Now this is entertaining," said Killian. He would love to solve this mystery Amelia’s mother had left behind. "Bring the books here let me see what is said about the witch. There are good witches and bad ones so your mother could have been fond of the work of the good ones. Your people used to kill the witches regardless of them being the good ones. It would be funny if your mother had been a witch all along," Killian chuckled.
He hoped she had cursed all the people in that castle.
"What is funny about my mother being a witch? Wouldn’t that mean I am part witch? I don’t want to be," said Amelia. People would be wary of her if they were to find this out and her mother’s good name would be ruined.
"She could be a regular human who enjoyed the arts and took part in them. The signs could have been clear as day but you were too young to know."
