The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 146

Chapter 146: Chapter 146

"Princess, why does it feel like you are out for blood?" Gina asked, concerned by Amelia’s expression.

"When I see Killian I am going to strangle that man," Amelia muttered.

She had woken up early in the morning to an empty spot where Killian should have been sleeping. She was relaxed at first until he realized he had put her to sleep again without any notice. Amelia was clear that she did not like when he suddenly did it but that brute refused to listen to her.

Gina looked around at the guards eyeing Amelia because of her words. "Amelia, I don’t think you should say that out loud."

"They know I can’t hurt him. He’s incredibly powerful or something. Right under the devil. Did you sleep well, Gina?" Amelia asked, forgetting about her anger until she would see Killian again.

"After a couple of hours of staring at the ceiling, I went to sleep. There was a shadow in my room but when I finally inspected it was just from a tree outside the window. I can admit that I was paranoid for nothing. I doubt someone would have popped into my room to kill me. Oh no," Gina smacked her hand over her mouth. ’I shouldn’t speak that into existence,’ she thought.

Amelia didn’t understand what was going on inside Gina’s head but she was sure it would all be figured out. "Have you seen Cyrus this morning or Jahi?"

"I didn’t see either of them. It is odd to go to your bedroom and not see Cyrus standing on the outside of it. Last I spoke to him, he mentioned going to pick out more guards to accompany you from now on. I don’t know about Jahi. She seems..." Gina trailed off trying to find the right word.

"Secretive?" Amelia answered.

"Yes. The time we were all in Cyrus’s room felt odd. At first, I thought it was weird for our little group to have a fourth person but then once we left I got to thinking that she wasn’t herself. She would give an answer about something but then look at Cyrus like she wanted to see if he was pleased with her words. Like she didn’t want to upset him. I don’t trust her around you because of the whole slave trade thing and hating your family," said Gina.

"Hmm. I was hoping to make use of her but I will send her out of the castle by night. I will speak with Cyrus about it first," said Amelia. She was reluctant to send Jahi away because she was worried Cyrus would leave her side so soon. She had gotten used to him always being close by but she had to accept their lives were different now.

Gina hooked arms with Amelia to cheer her up. "If Cyrus decides to follow Jahi out of the castle, I will still be here."

"Thank you. Are you ready for a tour of the north? Killian has tasked me with solving a dispute in one of the villages. I don’t exactly know what the dispute is over but hopefully, we can solve it soon. Oh, there’s Cyrus," Amelia said after spotting him by a carriage with two other men.

She stepped outside the castle toward the carriage that she believed was meant to take her around. Why did Killian change the carriage instead of using the one they took from the Blackwell kingdom was something she did not understand. Her personal carriage was made of the best material anyone could ever see. The one he picked out for her better be fire or demon-resistant.

"Good morning, Cyrus. These must be the two new guards," Amelia said, looking at the two new faces. "Hello-okay, no. No introductions," she muttered after the two men walked away when she was trying to get their names. "Do you know their names, Cyrus?"

"No. No one had introduced themselves. I just watched them fighting and picked out the best ones. Silence is better than anything else," said Cyrus.

"I suppose it is," Amelia agreed with him. Their silence was better than them glaring at her or coming out of the box saying they didn’t like her for a queen. She quite liked silence. "Will three men truly be enough to protect me outside the gates?"

"Four," Alastor said, bringing the attention to himself. Of course, Killian wouldn’t trust anyone else to watch over his precious bribe while she would be outside the gates so he was forced to come along. "We should get going now to cover a lot of ground and for you to get started on your task. Must this one come along," he looked directly at Gina.

"Yes, I must come along. The same can be said for you. Why do you have to come along with us? No one needs your sour mood to-Hey!" Gina yelled when Alastor walked right past her. "You see what I mean?" Gina looked at Amelia and pointed over her shoulder at how rude Alastor was.

"I can see that this will be a long trip if I do not kick out the both of you. Try to be civil, please. You can annoy, bicker or kill each other once I am far away from you. Are you riding inside with us Cyrus?" Amelia asked.

Cyrus pointed to a white horse tied up to a pole. "I have been given my own horse to use forever. The king seemed to be generous this morning. You should get inside not to keep them waiting. Plus, I know you are anxious to see the north. If we travel far enough I shall show you my old home."

Amelia was curious about where Cyrus once resided now that he mentioned it. Though she learned his secret of being a demon, she still felt like there was something she was missing about his life. Like where did he learn to fight so well if he was never in Killian’s castle? Did he learn to sword fight to survive in the underworld? There was so much more to Cyrus that she needed to find out.

"I’m annoying? Sir, have you ever looked in a mirror?"

Amelia sighed, already tired from the trip and it had not started. How was she supposed to stop another dispute when she had this one currently in the carriage? "Cyrus, I wouldn’t mind if you hand me that horse and you ride in the carriage. Please," she begged.

Cyrus shook his head. He’ll choose peace over Gina arguing with someone any day. "Good luck with that, princess. You should fall asleep to get through it."

"If they won’t shut up I will have to toss both of them out. Why is Killian torturing me like this?" Amelia grumbled. There was no doubt in her mind the man was aware Alastor and Gina did not get along but instead of sending someone else he could trust to watch over her, he sent Alastor for there to be noise. "I am going to strangle him the moment he is near."

"Princess-"

"I don’t," Amelia put up her hand to stop whatever the two of them were going to say. "Want to hear a word until we get outside the gates. Please grant me that."

Gina folded her lips while Alastor looked out the window.

’It feels like I am dealing with children,’ Amelia sighed.

The carriage finally pushed off now that everyone was inside. The two new guards led the carriage while Cyrus was at the back keeping watch for danger behind. He would not allow what happened the last time he went out with Amelia to occur again. He would not be so easily taken down as Amelia would die if he did and it would hurt his pride.

"Now the two of you can speak," Amelia said the moment they exited the gates.

"You closed the door on your dress," Gina said and pointed at where the dress was grabbed by the door.

"Of course, I did something foolish. I am not going to open the door now and I am not uncomfortable so it can stay like that for now. Why exactly are you here, Alastor? It is not only to protect me right?" Amelia could always spot a spy no matter how could they tried to hide it.

"Killian wants me to make sure the dispute does not become more than you can handle but I am mostly here to protect and show you around. I will take you to important parts of the mountain with traces of our life in the underworld. Many have brought some items from the underworld so they do not miss it," said Alastor.

"Well thank you. Something tells me you could have fought tooth and nail to not be the one here with me but you for some reason came along. I think that reason is you are curious about how I will handle the dispute but you do not want to admit being intrigued like Killian is. I do not mind," Amelia smiled.
