The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 144
Chapter 144: Chapter 144
"I am finished," Amelia said, placing her knife and fork down on the empty plate. "It was delicious. Please tell the cook," she informed the maid who had brought her food. "I will retire to bed now. Goodnight Alastor," she stood up from her seat.
Amelia rolled her eyes when Killian stood up along with her. He barely touched the food on his plate and should have left the table long ago. Still, she wouldn’t mind his company back to the room.
Amelia took in the beauty of the castle with the lanterns lighting up the halls. "Your castle is quite beautiful. I don’t think I have complimented it enough."
"Thank you. The people we stole it from had a good eye," Killian replied.
At this point, nothing that came out of Killian’s mouth stunned her at this point. She had a feeling that a bunch of demons had not built this from the ground up. The Blackwell was so close by that it could have been their castle Killian stole.
"Are you in need of something to occupy yourself with tomorrow? You must be bored sitting around."
"It is no different than my life before. I am aware I cannot jump straight into ruling. Why? Aside from going outside tomorrow, is there something else I can do?" Amelia side glanced at him, hiding her excitement.
"There has been trouble in one of the villages. Some dispute about something ridiculous. The matter needs to be dealt with quickly but Alastor and I will be busy. If you would your first task before you are-"’
"I would," Amelia replied. She didn’t care what the dispute was about since she would put an end to it. "I will have it cleared up by tomorrow."
"There is no deadline for you to complete it. Take your time with the matter. You will find those people to be extremely difficult so finding the root of their issues will not be easy. I expect good news from you," Killian ruffled her hair much to Amelia’s dismay. "I will grant you something special if you are able to complete it yourself."
"What is it?" Amelia asked, curious about what she would get.
"It is a surprise. You are also supposed to have your fitting for your wedding dress tomorrow and if there is anything you wish to send to your grandmother, you should have it written by noon since another set of invitations to our wedding are yet to be delivered. I made sure to put all the people you hated as guests at our wedding."
Amelia couldn’t understand why he did such a thing. Weren’t weddings supposed to be happy and surrounded by people you love? She knew being a princess many of the people living in the castle were meant to attend but he invited all of the people she hated. "Enlighten me why you did such a thing? I have a feeling I should expect Annabelle or Fraser’s grandfather to be receiving one."
"You will be crowned queen on the day of our wedding. After the way they have treated you, it would be a shame not to let them see where you are now. I enjoy seeing others jealous or angered by someone else. Besides, there is something amusing I want to see thanks to your prayers for your father’s mistress to have a girl," Killian chuckled. Amelia always had a way of amusing him.
Amelia stopped walking and looked at the back of Killian. No one but Cyrus and Annabelle should know she went to the temple to wish for a baby girl. Killian could not have been in the castle at that point so how? "How do you know about that?’
"When you pray to those Gods you should state the name of the God you want to accept your prayers. There are a few who will grant what you want but put a twist on it for them to have fun. Eris, the goddess of chaos was spotted lingering around your castle for a moment. I had a short word with her and she told me about your prayer."
"Why are you bringing this up now? I would have preferred to-"
"Because you would try to meddle in whatever Eris has planned. It is pointless to get in a God’s way since they would turn their wrath to you. You prayed and technically got what you asked for. There is no turning back now. It is already done and I am curious to see what Eris did. You should know she creates situations that lead to chaos in the future so she can be entertained," said Killian.
Amelia started to regret her prayer. All she wanted was another girl so there wouldn’t have been any more competition for the throne. Her wish being granted would explain why Annabelle was rarely seen during her last days in the castle. As Killian said, it was already done so there is no point in worrying about it now. She could only wait to see what was done.
"I am done with praying to God’s for now. It is too much trouble. Not that I have anything to pray for now. Perhaps," Amelia said as she thought of one thing. She would enjoy it if she could control Killian to make him shut up sometimes or if she could be made powerful. "No," Amelia shook her head. She would not be praying again before her wish to be powerful might somehow turn her into a demon.
"You have no need to pray to a God when I am by your side. I shall take care of whatever is bothering you. Ladies first, Killian opened their bedroom door for her.
"What a gentleman you are," Amelia said as she entered first. He continued to have his moments that would sway her heart. She would prefer that he stopped.
As Amelia entered the room she found it interesting how it felt like her old room where the weight from the day was quickly lifted off her shoulders and she felt relaxed. It was kind of scary how easy it was for her to adapt to living with Killian.
’Don’t tell me this demon put a spell on me?’ Amelia genuinely considered it. She would rather believe that than the fact she might care for Killian more than she thought.
She watched Killian go straight to the chair he slept in the previous night. Before she could change into a night dress she said, "You are not going to sleep there right? You are free to sleep on the bed with me. As long as you keep your hands to yourself as promised."
Killian looked up at Amelia, staring into her eyes as she stared into his. He was expecting her to change her mind once it came time for them to go to bed. She had that determined look that told him she was not going to change her mind. "I will join you when you return," he replied.
Amelia didn’t say anything else and went to the closet to have privacy to change. She didn’t see why her heart was beginning to rush like crazy when this was all her idea. ’Calm down you fool before you embarrass us,’ she scolded her heart. This was no different than the other night just that they would be in the same bed.
Nothing was going to happen between them so there was nothing to fear. She was acting a fool right now.
’Amelia, you are not the type of person to get all shy and embarrassed because of a guy so snap out of this. We are not going to amuse Killian,’ she thought.
Amelia rested her head on the wall finding it hard for her heart to agree with her mind. She had a strong personality and never allowed a man to affect her in any way but her principles were out the window now.
’I suppose it is fine for me to be this way around my future husband. It would be sad if I did not feel any sort of emotions towards the man I would have to lay with," she thought, trying to find a positive side to all of this.
’He does not affect me. I can sleep beside him comfortably and not be affected. I am acting a fool for nothing,’ Amelia thought, regaining her confidence.
Amelia decided to ignore her nervousness and got changed into the night dress Gina had started to place in her closet. Most of her belongings were placed in the bedroom but there was still a lot of unpacking to do.
Amelia wanted to read the books her mother left but she wanted to do it when Killian would not be around her. The man was too smart for his own good and would somehow find out what she was actually reading about.
After successfully changing out of the dress she wore for dinner, Amelia stood in front of a mirror to get a look at her night dress. "This should do," she muttered. She had picked the one that would show little skin. It just meant she had to be tortured with the heat inside the castle.
Amelia exited the closest to let Killian know she was ready for bed but almost stumbled when she saw him taking off his shirt to get into bed. "You’ve got to be kidding me," she mumbled. As if she wasn’t having a hard time preparing to sleep in the same bed.
