The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 107

Chapter 107: Chapter 107

"Do not touch anything or our roles will reverse and it will be you worrying about me harming you," Amelia warned Loki. "What is left inside of this tower needs to be cherished. I will take the more important things in case anyone decides to empty this tour. A lot of her things have been moved to the hall for royalty. My doll," Amelia spotted a familiar toy she would play with.

It was a small doll the size of her hand with similar features to Amelia. Anne would use it to tell stories of a princess who would one day become queen.

She stood up from the bed to pick up the doll that lay under her mother’s vanity. "You used to be so pretty. The dust has ruined you," she shook the doll and fanned the dust that came out. "A little bit of water will make you feel brand new. You can come with me. I need a basket," Amelia said as she looked around for something to hold the things she would take.

While she was busy, Loki found a warm spot under the window to lie down. He didn’t see why she was interested in such a boring thing.

"This will do," Amelia picked up a basket containing dried-up flowers that broke apart the moment she touched them. The flowers were placed there during the time of her mother’s funeral. Amelia patted the basket to get rid of the dust and turned it upside down to let anything inside fall out.

Once it was as clean as it could be, for now, Amelia gently placed her doll inside the basket. If she could make the doll regain its former beauty, it would be something nice to pass down to her daughter if she were to ever have one. She hoped that she would.

"This is my favorite bedtime story," Amelia showed Loki a book she found on her mother’s vanity. "Did Killian have you from the time you were a pup? If he did, did he read stories to you? He does not seem like the type but you never know how pet people are when they are alone. You wouldn’t care about these happy stories. Perhaps I should write one about fire and death for you."

Amelia placed the book in her basket along with brushes and hair accessories her mother would use. No one would care for them better than her and she would like to start the tradition of passing down her mother’s things to her children so that her mother would never be forgotten.

"I feel more relaxed than I have been in a long time. Should I sleep here instead of in my room?" Amelia seriously considered it. "I have been having trouble sleeping from the moment I stopped visiting my mother’s tower. Perhaps she was haunting me for not visiting her. Do you have a mother, Loki?"

Loki whined hearing the word mother.

"I take it that your mother was scary. As intrigued as I am to see what you look like, I am fine with your being a wolf. You would be even more useful if you could sniff out where my mother’s diaries are. Where on earth would she have hidden the books?" Amelia looked around the room for any possible hiding spots.

Her mother rarely left her tower if there was nothing she had to do as she wished to avoid trouble with her husband. If anyone else wished to have her mother’s diaries, it would make sense for her mother to hide them outside of the tower. However, her mother had to know hiding outside the tower would make it hard for Amelia to find.

"She always said this was a safe place," Amelia muttered as she continued to look around the room. "Only the princess and the queen could control the room. No one else could enter," she repeated words from a story her mother told her before bed. "My mother rarely let the maids enter and my father could never walk past the doorway. I am certain that her diaries are here and she hid them in a place I would only find."

It was frustrating for Amelia to think that the diaries were most likely hidden in plain sight but she was overthinking it.

"I don’t remember her ever showing me any hiding places in the tower. It’s not like we played treasure games for there to be something for me to follow. I checked this room after she had died but there was nothing there. I would have taken it," Amelia said out loud as she racked her mind.

There was no point in checking under the bed, the closet, or drawers as she had visited her mother’s room during the time she died and around the time for the funeral.

"Loki, be helpful and help me find them," Amelia said to the wolf.

Loki raised his head to look at her but then laid back down. What was she asking him to do? The only thing he did for his masters was killed, someone. He was a hellhound, not a wizard. He could not make things magically appear.

Giving up, for now, Amelia continued to pack up the things on her mother’s vanity and the bedtime stories her mother used to read to her at night. Some other old toys and items belonging to her mother were placed inside the basket but she would have to make a second trip to collect the others.

"Come Loki. There is no point in staying around all of this dust. I will keep coming back until something pops into my mind. Hopefully, I can find at least one of her diaries before I leave for the north."

Amelia let the wolf walk out the door first then followed it out, closing the door behind the two of them. "I need to inform the head maid to have the maids continue to clean up the tower. The ash on the stairs needs to be removed and I will have them dust my mother’s room in my presence. It is nearing time for us to get a light snack. I will see if the cook can give me raw meat to find you so that you do not think about eating me."

Amelia continued to say, "I should probably stop mentioning you eating me before you become curious enough to try doing it. Have a good day," she told the guards as she passed them on her way out. She heard the two of them sigh at the same time and realized they must have been holding their breath until Loki would be gone.

"Even the guards are shaking in their boots at the sight of you. I see why Killian would want wolves as pets-"

"Oh do you?" Killian interrupted her. "Do not stare at me like that, princess. I was not following you. I am on my way to speak with the court ministers about the slaves I have found. Some of them seem to have connections to those who were either owning or selling my people. You don’t mind if I kill a few of them, do you?"

"No. The majority of them are crooked anyway. I would just hope that you also kill the bad people in your court and that you are not just killing the ones here. That would be hypocritical of you," said Amelia.

"My court is as clean as it would be for my kind. Have you picked up the art of voodoo?" Killian asked after he picked up a tiny version of Amelia from the basket she was holding. "Quite a nice surprise since your people are not fans of witch doctors and believe in the temple’s words."

Amelia took the doll from Killian’s hands. "It has nothing to do with voodoo. It is a doll my mother gave me to play with as a child. I visited her tower to search for something and take some of her belongings to the north with me."

Killian picked up one of the books with the drawing of a princess on the front. "The princess and the monster? Your people have strange stories to tell."

"Do not judge it," Amelia took back the book and hid it behind her along with the basket so Killian could leave her things alone. "My mother wrote out the stories to tell me. The monster was my father. They are about my real life-Wait!" Amelia brought the book from behind her and stared at it. "There’s no way," she muttered.

The princess in most of the stories was her. The monster was her father and the queen in the book was her mother. Other characters reminded her of the people in the castle like the troll meant to be the previous head maid.

"There were other stories of another princess," Amelia handed Killian the book in her hand to flip through the ones in the basket. "One princess wished to be queen while the other wished to fly. Could this possibly be my mother’s life made into a fairytale?" She questioned when she found a book with a drawing of a bird on the cover.
