The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 102
Chapter 102: Chapter 102
"What is this invitation for?" Beth asked for the sole purpose of running back to Fraser to tell it so he could be prepared for anything.
"Everyone who is meant to attend will know what it is by dinner. Everyone will have to hear about it afterward. I’m sorry, aunt Beth. If you have changed your mind about not wanting to get involved in castle affairs, I would add your name to be invited. I would love for more women to be present with this," said Amelia.
So far it was only she and Margaret as the women who would be attending the meeting for the truce. As women were hardly invited to important meetings, there weren’t any other women she could think of who was in the castle. As time went on, Amelia expected this would be something that changes.
"You have a wonderful dream," Beth complimented Amelia. Long ago she wished to be more involved in the kingdom’s affairs as she was a princess but she was told to focus on other things so she did. She was both jealous and in awe that Amelia had continued to stick to letting princesses do more than just look pretty and get married for some benefit.
"Thank you," Amelia replied.
"I just spoke to Fraser and scolded him for his recent behavior toward you. The two of you are cousins going into big positions in two different castles. Instead of being at each other’s throats, you should be working together. The north and this kingdom will have problems in the future if you two don’t see eye to eye," said Beth.
Amelia knew that was true but it was Fraser who needed to hear this. She was trying to focus on her own life and only messed with Fraser after he would come after her. She could try being a little nicer if Fraser was able to stop acting like a fool. "I’m sure our bond will get stronger in the people," she said just to make Beth happy and so they could move on from this topic.
"Wonderful," Beth smiled and started to pour herself juice.
"Are you aware your father-in-law is in the castle? Well, I don’t know if he is still here but he was this morning," Amelia informed Beth to see if the woman was aware of it based on her reaction. She wanted to see if there was a discussion for the Adams family to all come to the castle.
Beth frowned as this was news to her. No one had informed her of Cedric being here. "I didn’t know he was here. If he is still here, I will have to visit him."
"Hmm. Until the truce has been sealed by both sides, I will ask for no one to casually enter the castle as they like. We can find ourselves in danger and it’s not easy to tell the intentions of everyone visiting. If some fool decides to hurt Killian, all that we are doing now is pointless. Since no one will listen to me, I will either Killian or Leonard implement it," said Amelia.
"Are you and king Killian this close for you to be getting him to do as you want?" Beth was curious to know. It would be impossible for Amelia to already have a man like Killian Bune wrapped around her finger. The man was rumored to be a heartless beast so if she did claim his heart, Amelia was more talented than they all thought.
"He is going to be my husband so I have been trying to get along with him and know a lot about him before we have to leave for the north to prepare for the wedding. We get along well-"
"Though he killed your father?" Beth could not help cutting in as it sounded ridiculous to hear Amelia getting along with the man who killed her half-brother. "I know he did not treat you well but he was still your father."
"I have to spend the rest of my life with him. Should I spend every day angry at him? Should I kill myself and let the truce disappear? I don’t understand how all of you are thankful for your lives being spared because of my engagement but then you question my motives for being nice to him to have peace. Should I truly call off everything to make everyone happy?" Amelia genuinely wished to know.
One minute people were upset with her engagement but then they were worried about her calling it off. There was nothing she could do to please them and she was no longer looking to do so.
"Nothin," Margaret answered as Beth took too long. "Continue to get to know him as you have started to do. Richard was not kind to you so it’s no surprise you are not remorseful about his death. Also, it took a lot for you to accept Killian’s proposal but you did it for the people here. We are in your debt. If you and Killian fall in love it will mean these two kingdoms will have peace for years."
"Richard was your son. You at least love him. Don’t tell me you are not the slightest bit upset from seeing her walking around with him so casually. I have only been here for a short period but I have heard the servants’ concerns. They think you warmed up to Killian too quickly-"
"Aunt Beth," Amelia stated, then took a deep breath. "I have already answered your concerns and I am not in the mood to do it again. It’s either you let it go or please leave as I have other things to be worried about. "
Margaret looked at Beth as if telling her to leave. Instead of sitting around talking with Amelia, she thought it should be in Beth’s best interest to help guide Fraser to be a good king. Margaret knew that the only person beside her to talk sense into Fraser was his mother. "I’ve heard Fraser has been skipping some of his lessons. Please see to it he attends all today," she said.
Beth had something to say but she remained silent and stood up from the table.
Before she could leave, Amelia had to clarify something. "Aunt Beth, I hope you don’t think I am coming after you or dislike you but there has been a lot on my mind lately therefore I cannot deal with any more questions that I have already provided the answer to. Please understand. You can stay if you move on from that topic."
"No thank you, Amelia. I have to go check on Fraser to see why he is not attending his lessons. I will be here around time for dinner before going home. I hope we can spend some time with each other. Lady Margaret," Beth curtsied before leaving the balcony.
"I feel like I hurt her feelings a lot but I am tired of being questioned about Killian. My actions should be clear. At this point, I may need to make a public announcement to stop getting questions. Honestly, I wish we were still at your house, grandmother. It was so peaceful there," Amelia said as she deeply regretted leaving her grandmother’s house as soon as she did.
"I would have loved to spend more time with you outside of the castle but you have too many things on your plate now. If it means anything, I am happy to see that you are getting along so well with Killian."
Amelia wasn’t surprised by this. "Of course you are, grandmother. You wanted us together from the moment you heard we ran into each other. At least I have one person who understands me and everything I do. What on earth would I do without you?"
"You would be left alone with all these crazy people. Maybe you would have turned out boring," Margaret shuddered just imagining it. "When you go to the north and find all sorts of fancy things, don’t forget to send some back for your dear grandmother. I could use a few more new pieces of jewelry. Your husband should give me something since he is taking my precious grandchild away."
Amelia shook her head. Only her grandmother would make Killian give her a gift. "He is not my husband yet. I am sure he must be glad that we do not have to stay here much longer so that you can not threaten him or get a gift out of him. I think he has gone to look for his people who were captured. I hope the slave trade can disappear as quickly as it appeared."
"It won’t," Margaret honestly stated. "There will be many to hide the people they bought. The slave trade will now run in the black market. It should have been stopped from the moment it was created once again. We can only try to save many people from it now and create laws to make it illegal. Unfortunately, it is something that Fraser has to take care of."
