The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 89: Making up

Chapter 89: Making up

Beatrix curled up on her bed and stared at the ceiling.

Even though Damien had told her not to take Rhys’ words to heart she couldn’t help but still get hurt.

It felt like someone was piercing her heart with a sharp knife. It was weird how she could feel the pain in her heart and inside her stomach at the same time.

Tears blurred her vision and she wiped them away.

She was not expecting that honestly when she decided to tell them how she felt about them.

What was she expecting though, for him to jump with joy? Expecting him to take her into his arms and spin her around like in the books.

She could still remember the look in his eyes. The horror and shock in them as if he couldn’t believe her words.

She heard a knock on her door and she frowned.

Who could it be? She had told Damien that she wanted to be alone so she was sure it wasn’t him.

Rhys?

Her heart jumped in her chest. She didn’t want him to see her crying.

Beatrix wiped her tears from her eyes and got down from her bed to open the door.

She saw Rhys standing there with his head hung low as he looked at the floor.

"Rhys?" She called him, snapping him from whatever thoughts running in his mind.

He looked up and she couldn’t help but notice the dread in his eyes.

She wished she could take it all away and make him feel okay but she knew better.

He cleared his throat running his fingers through his hair.

Beatrix couldn’t help but notice the bandage around his knuckles.

""Rhys, oh my God what happened?" She gasped and pulled his hands to her, looking in concerned panic over the bandage.

He was fine a few minutes ago. What the heck had happened?

She flicked her eyes up to his to see him watching her with his brows creased, with no emotion on his face.

"I went to the gym to do some boxing, I forgot my gloves"

She knew he probably went there because he was feeling overwhelmed with what had happened.

She frowned at him, looking down to his knuckles again

"Was the punching bag filled with bricks? Doesn’t that hurt?"

He wrapped his hands around hers , tugging her against him with a dramatic pout.

"Yes it does, kiss me to make it better."

Beatrix narrowed her eyes at him, "Seriously?"

"Yeah" he grinned, leaning down to ghost his lips against her own .

"Your kisses make everything better." He mused.

Beatrix rolled her eyes and pulled away from him.

She saw the hurt in his eyes when she did that and she sighed.

"What do you want, Rhys?"

She asked and watched as his face etched in a hard expression, swallowing harshly he wet his lips and fear flashed in his eyes as he took a deep breath.

"You." He replied simply.

Beatrix pressed her lips together as she looked at the ground, not sure how to really feel about his answer.

Didn’t he tell her not to want him? And now he was saying he wanted her?

"I didn’t mean to hurt you," he said quietly, looking at his hands.

Beatrix looked up at him and sighed, "Yeah I know but it still hurts."

He winced at how blank her tone was, and his beautiful blue eyes looked devastated as he looked up to hers.

"Sorry.. I care about you. I will never intentionally hurt you. I want to make you happy not sad, if I just make you sad I would rather not have you at all," he said, holding her eyes, and the sincerity in his hoarse voice made her heart thump in her chest.

"You do make me happy" she said softly, frowning.

"I’m only sad because I got rejected by you." She added bitterly.

"Can we sit down so that we can talk?" He asked, gesturing at the sofa in her room.

"Yeah." She agreed, as she walked to sit down with Rhys behind her.

She stopped walking when she felt Rhys tugging on her shirt.

"Wait.." he said.

She turned around to face, confusion marred on her face on why he stopped her.

He darted his eyes over her face like he wanted to engraved how she looked inside his memory.

He held his breath, dropping her hand and bringing his hands up to rest against her neck, tracing his thumbs along her jaw.

Beatrix breath hitched at the intense emotion swirling in his eyes.

"Can I kiss you?" he asked softly, looking apprehensive about her answer.

Beatrix narrowed her eyes at his question. It was so random.

"You can say no, I know you’re still upset with me...I just, I just want to in case I don’t get to again after this conversation."

Beatrix frowned at his words. She had no idea what he was about to tell her but she could see how afraid he was of her reaction.

Was what he was going to say so bad? What could have happened to him?

Looking at how scared he looked about telling her, she decided that whatever that he would tell her.

She was going to try her hardest to understand, because she knew that if she wanted Rhys, she was going to have to accept things about him.

"It’s okay if—-"

He started but Beatrix interrupted him by pressing her lips against his.

He was startled at first because he wasn’t moving his mouth but once she grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer he kissed her back as if he was afraid she was going to disappear.

He pulled back, resting his forehead against hers and darting his eyes between her own.

"I don’t want to lose you." He muttered,as he cautiously cupped the side of her face, swiping the pad of his thumb across her cheek.

"I don’t know what I’m doing, and I know you deserve someone as pure as you but I’m too selfish to let you go"

"You have me Rhys, I’m not going anywhere"

His lips pulled up at the corners, as a smile formed in his face.

"Really?" He questioned.

"Yes." She smiled back at him.

"So I get to keep you?" He asked quietly.

Beatrix blushed and nodded, "’I’m all yours, for as long as you want me."

He beamed at her and smiled brightly at her, unable to hide the giddy happiness coursing through him.

"I know I’m fucked up, and I know it’s stupid to want someone like me, but all I ever want to do for you, is make you smile." he whispered sincerely, his eyes flashing with emotions she was sure he wasn’t even aware of.

Beatrix smiled wider as she grabbed his hand and led her to the couch.

"Well, if you haven’t already noticed, I’m already a fool for you." Beatrix replied with a faint blush covering her cheeks.

Rhys chuckled, his eyes lighting up as he shook his head at her.

"Fuck I’m so crazy about you, no one makes me happy like you do. With you I feel less of a monster and the voices disappear."

Beatrix flicked his forehead with her finger, "Don’t say that. You’re not a monster. If I have to beat that into you for you to remember that I will do it." She scolded him.

He chuckled under his breath as they both settled down on the couch, and she turned to face him with her legs crossed in front of him, while he his sat wide legged next to her

There was a short silence as she waited for him to start talking about whatever it was he was intending to say, keeping her posture relaxed so hopefully it settled any anxiety in him.

"So ermm....you know my nightmares?" He started and she could see how difficult it was for him to say whatever he intended to.

Beatrix grabbed his hand and gave it a small squeeze. For some reason she felt bad. It was like she was indirectly forcing him to open up to her when he was clearly not ready.

She now knew he had his reasons why he didn’t want her to fall in love with him and she hoped one day when the time was right he was going to tell her but not today.

"Rhys—you don’t have to tell me what is causing them if you’re not ready. Like I told you I don’t want much, I just want you."

He opened his mouth but no words came out. He looked shocked at her words.

"Fuck little mouse, are you sure? I mean I can tell you a little bit about it?"

Beatrix shook her head and pressed a kiss on his forehead.

"When you’re ready, you tell me everything okay? I can wait."

Rhys let out a chuckle as if he couldn’t believe what she just said.

"What did I do to deserve someone like you?"

Beatrix blushed and shrugged, "Probably you did good in your other life."

Rhys grabbed her cheeks as he gazed into her eyes,

"You have me too Beatrix, had me since the first time I saw you, I just didn’t know it."
