Chapter 45: Leaving

Because of how powerless I was in the bedroom when I was young, I got into BDSM. My brother suggested it. He saw how broken I was. Maybe if I’m in charge in the bedroom then I wouldn’t feel violated anytime I laid with someone.

So I only slept with women who are also into this stuff so then I wouldn’t feel like I have abused them or anything. No string attached just pure torture sex."

Beatrix blinked away the tears that threatened to fall out of her eyes.

"I thought you were just using these women because you had the money"

She mumbled broodingly, her heart heavy.

"No, it’s more complicated than that," he said softly, tilting her chin up so she could look at him.

His smile was now tender, his eyes warm and affectionate.

"And that’s the difference between you and all those women,Beatrix. I actually want to make love to you, caress you and cuddle with you afterwards even though I have no idea how.

When I told your father I wanted to marry you I had no expectations. I just wanted someone from a powerful family to carry my children just in case something happens to me.

Your family is powerful enough to protect you and my children in case of anything, but the first time I saw you, I knew you were different."

Beatrix’s bit her lip and nodded as he brushed a tear that had rolled down her cheek.

He closed his eyes briefly and kissed the tear stains away.

"Don’t doubt that I want you badly because I do. All these feelings I have for you are new and I don’t know how to act.

I might not act like the perfect gentleman you want or know what to do in certain situations as your fiancé but just know that I am willing to learn."

Beatrix smiled softly at him and nodded, "Then let’s learn together. I’m clueless about relationships too.

The fact that you’re capable of this -of wanting to be a better man. You know your sins, you suffer for them. You’re not turning away from a chance to do differently."

Damien kissed the back of her hand she was holding, "That’s because of you. Honestly change scares the hell out of me after a lifetime of being my worst but I want it as much you do-for you. For us."

Beatrix nodded, "For us."

The ate in silence after that, each lost in their own thoughts.

After dessert, he stood and asked her to dance and Beatrix blushed profusely and admitted that she didn’t know how to dance very well.

Damien laughed and pulled her up to her feet and gently swayed her to the sweet and slow violin music, holding her securely around her waist so that her feet barely touched the floor.

After the dancing, Damien brought her to a more secluded part of the garden where a swinging bench was. He helped her to sit on it and swing her gently.

"Do you remember the conversation we had at our first breakfast?"

Beatrix furrowed her brows but nodded, "Yeah.."

Now she understood why he made that rule in his empire. He didn’t want any woman to be abused and if they got abused they would have enough money to leave.

"I wanted to give you one of our company’s branches to manage."

Beatrix opened her mouth in shock. "But I have no idea on how to manage a company. I know the theories but I have never..."

Damien chuckled, "Yeah that’s why my brother would help you. I wanted an excuse for him to come home and I think I have found the perfect one. You get to work and not feel lonely.

Your father has lots of enemies here. I can’t risk exposing your identity yet. Not until I have ensured maximum security for you.

And a lot of people would be against the marriage alliance especially my uncles so we have to stay low key for a while. Sorry. Once I sort everything out at home I will come for you.

You will work under him at our new branch in this city. I hope you two can get along because you’re the most important people in my life right now."

Beatrix frowned at his words, "Are you saying that you’re going to leave me alone with your brother? While you go and sort out your mafia duties?"

Damien sighed, "Yes. I have a couple of traitors that I need to get rid of, if I want to ensure that you’re safe. I’m doing this for us."

Beatrix nodded, "Okay when are you leaving?"

Damien came to squat in front of her and grabbed her hands, "In two weeks. I have been gone for too long. Rumors have started spreading."

Beatrix couldn’t stop the ache in her heart. Just when she thought they were taking their relationship to the next level he was already leaving.

"When-when will you come back?" She fiddled with her fingers trying desperately to show that she wasn’t affected by him leaving her."

Damien pressed a kiss on the crown of her head.

"Soon. Very soon."

A ghost of a smile fleetingly touched his lips. "But I will make sure to visit you once in a while. We can FaceTime or you can call me anytime."

Beatrix nodded, "Oh-okay." She managed, her voice barely a whisper.

He leaned in closer and Beatrix began to feel his warm breath on her lips, her heart practically fibrillating at the thought of possibly feeling his lips against hers. He grabbed the side of her face and his mouth hovered over hers as they breathed into each other.

"I will miss you."

He murmured before he pressed his lips against hers and pulled her closer to him and kissed her.

He held the nape of her neck and Beatrix clasped onto his suit as she relished the feeling of his crisp mouth against hers.

Beatrix hummed against his mouth when he slightly bit her lower lips. He placed his hand along her jaw and began to kiss her slowly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She just couldn’t get close enough.

She was going to miss him.
