The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 36: Hurt
Chapter 36: Hurt
Beatrix looked at the clock on the wall and sighed. It was almost 11 o’clock but Damien wasn’t still back.
It’s been one week since they came here and to say she was bored was an understatement. Damien would prepare breakfast then leave for some business meeting.
At times he would come back for lunch or supper If he can’t make it he would let his driver bring her food.
He would randomly check up on her during the day and at night she would always wait for him to come back home.
He had told her not to wait for him but for some reason she wanted to see him before she slept.
Beatrix opened the messenger app on her phone and sent him a message
From Beatrix.
Hi...are you coming home? I’m worried Damien.....are you okay?
Beatrix hit the send button and waited for his reply. Even though she was sure he wouldn’t reply. This was after all the fifth message she was sending him.
Her phone screen lit up and her heart skipped in her chest.
From Damien.
Hi....sorry to disappoint you but this is Damien’s friend. You must be the sister-in-law he was talking about. Hmm...he is a little preoccupied at the moment. I will bring him home soon! Don’t worry^.
Beatrix read the message and her face flushed with embarrassment. Did he just call her sister-in-law?
Bitting her lips she quickly sent a reply.
From Beatrix:
Okay.
Beatrix placed her phone down and sighed. She laid down on the couch to wait for Damien. For some reason she couldn’t help but get worried about him.
********
Beatrix stood up when she heard the door opening and walked towards Damien.
She froze on the spot when she saw his appearance. He looked like he’d just been dragged through hell.
His hair was messed about like he had spent the last few hours manically dragging his fingers through it, his amber eyes were bloodshot under his furrowed brows as he locked them on her.
His shirt was soaked with blood and Beatrix stayed frozen for a moment before she took slow cautious steps towards the door, feeling a familiar lump in her throat.
She swallowed her apprehension and looked at him in concern.
"Damien what happened? Are you alright?"
He didn’t speak, just pressed his lips together firmly but Beatrix didn’t miss the pain flickering between his brows.
"T-he bl-oood is it yours?" She managed out.
"Why are you still awake?" Damien gritted out, agony laced in his voice.
"Are you hurt? Let me help you." Beatrix said instead ignoring his question.
She moved closer and lifted his shirt up. She gasped when she saw the stab wound in his stomach.
"Oh my God! Damien! Why didn’t you go to the hospital?! You could bleed to death! Are you insane?" She scolded him then grabbed his hand and dragged him to sit on the sofa.
"Wait here I’m going to bring the first aid box."
"Bea-" but she was gone before he could stop her.
Beatrix came back a few minutes later and Damien was sitting in silence waiting for her.
Beatrix took a moment to examine him and she realized that he truly looked so sad and almost broken. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he hadn’t heard her come into the bedroom.
"Hey." She said as she stride towards him.
Damien cleared his throat and looked up at her with a small grin.
She brought over the first aid kit and a small bowl of warm water with a face towel.
Fortunately she had done this a couple of times for her brothers so she knew what to do.
"Can you take off your shirt?"
Lord help her.
He nodded his head as he took off his shirt showing off his toned body. Her eyes tried staying on the wound but soon trailed to his abs. Stop Beatrix!
She scolded herself.
She dipped the cloth in the warm water and after squeezing it she brought it to his chest.
She wiped away the blood and whatever dirt and she watched as he inhaled deeply when it probably stung a little but he kept very still and silent.
Once she cleaned it with the face towel she dabbed on antiseptic on cotton swabs and began dabbing it on his wounds.
"You’re awfully quiet." He mused out loud as he watched her clean his wound.
"What do you want me to say?" She asked as she placed a large gauze on his chest.
"Anything." He answered earnestly.
"I will answer whatever you have to say or ask today and I give you my word on that." He said earnestly.
She looked up into his eyes, just realising how close she was to him.
She gulped and her breathing picked up, she was trying her best to ignore the way her heart was beating or the way the butterflies were dancing in her stomach.
She placed one last band aid on his stomach and put a distance between them.
"There you’re all patched up." She announced.
"Thank you darling." He smiled at her, that made even more butterflies fly around inside her stomach.
"Yeah but next time you get hurt treat it before you come home do you understand? Also don’t get hurt! I thought you were strong as the leader of your gang association. How the hell did you get stabbed?"
She questioned her brows scrunched together.
"I got distracted." He said as he stood up.
Her heart picked up pace when he surprisingly got closer
"B-by what?" She stuttered.
"You..." His voice was merely a whisper as he gently pressed his forehead to her temple and stroked her lips with the warmth of his breath.
He closed his eyes briefly, and then opened them again before staring down at her mouth.
"I was in a hurry to come home to see my fiancé. I got distracted thinking about your lovely face."
He began dragging his hand up the side of her body and she was terrified that he might feel the unstable thumping of her heart.
"Xavier told me you had been texting me nonstop. Did you miss me?"
Xavier? Beatrix arched her brows. That must be the name of the guy who replied to her message.
His hand slowed as it outlined the curve of her breast before slowly making its way up to cup the edge of her face and she was dead.
"I-Oh-" Beatrix stuttered.
His hands cupped each side of her face and
drew it up so she could look at him.
His expression softened, his eyes almost smiling, his lips slightly parted as he gazed at her, his thumbs gently brushing against her cheeks.
Stunned into silence, she let him draw her in, aware of the pounding in her chest at the feel of him so warm and solid around her.
"Sorry that I made you worried. I will take better care of myself next time." He said soothingly.
Beatrix bit her lip and pressed her cheek against his chest, hearing the steady beating of his heart that nearly echoed her own.
"I—o-Kay." She managed out.
