The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 270: Remo

Chapter 270: Remo

"What? What’s wrong?" the man asked cautiously, extending his support to help her stand.

"I think I’m gonna puke."

"What?! Not here. Come on, let’s get to the bathroom."

"No, I won’t make it," she replied in a feat of uncontrollable gag reflexes that made it difficult for her to contain the impending release.

"Just a few more steps," the man urged, guiding her as they shuffled toward the bathroom. With his assistance, she emptied the contents of the alcohol she had consumed that night, retching violently into the toilet.

How shameful... She thought to herself as he cleaned her up. Cradled in his arms, he carried her to bed, carefully tucking her in and ensuring her comfort as she drifted off to sleep.

Stella woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and an annoyingly constant tapping on glass, likely her window. When she tried to open her eyes, her eyelids felt like heavy weight had been hung on them. In spite of her difficulty, she managed to open her eyes. The moment she did, her heart did a tumble in her chest as it started at an unsteady rhythm.

She was not in her home, and while she thought about it, she realized that the sheets were soft... too soft. She rubbed her palms on the material, taking in its soothing smoothness before she began a thorough scrutiny of the space.

It was someone else’s bedroom alright. However, there was a sort of coolness to the overall layout. There was an arm chair right in front of the bed, and a round glass table before it. The dressing table had a few items on it, but, it did not seem like whoever owned it stayed in very often.

The minimalist bedframe radiated a zen type atmosphere that synced with the overall colour template of the space. The extreme end of the room had sliding glass doors that led to the balcony, beyond the glass that separated the outer space, there were two chairs facing the horizon.

Whoever it was, he sure was a person of simple taste.

Yes. It’s most definitely a man. A man?!

When the thought occurred to her, she gasped, her eyes widening in full-fledged panic. It most definitely wasn’t Matteo, that much she was sure of... which was why it broke her when she rose the duvet only to see that she was wearing someone else’s clothes—a shirt to be precise. Just a shirt!

No, no, no, no, this can’t be happening! She thought to herself, regret and anger filling her being, mostly directed at herself, for letting herself get into the situation in the first place.

But it was not entirely her fault. Matteo was the reason why she was in the situation to begin with. That sort of calmed her down. However, she didn’t know how to react to the possibility that she might’ve done it with the stranger, whoever it was.

Fuck... I don’t even know his name... She slammed her palm against her forehead and fell back into the comfort of the soft pillows. It did little to quell her troubled heart, but it was not enough.

My phone! She jolted back to a sitting position, scanning the room once more, in search of her items. But just as her gaze scanned past the doorway, she noticed someone standing there. She returned her gaze to meet those of familiar hazel eyes filled with humor.

It can’t be! Was the first thought that crossed her mind when she beheld the person that stood before her—Matteo’s younger brother, Remo.

"Good morning, sleeping beauty." He greeted, taking long strides as he made his way toward her.

"Stop!" She commanded, raising her palm to halt his movements. "Do not make another move." He complied, raising his hands above his head.

There’s no way in hell... it doesn’t seem like he knows who I am. She mused to herself. After all, she had never been one to draw attention to herself, and their interactions had been limited to occasional visits as Beatrix’s friend. Plus, she had always had eyes for Matteo. And of all ways to see him again, it had to be this way.

"For one who woke up in a place she can’t exactly call home, you’re unusually assertive." He spoke in a humorous tone that made her eye twitch with fury and impatience.

I can’t tell him that I know who he is. Who knows what he’s going to do when he finds out? I need to get myself out of here first.

"How did I get here? Where are my things?!" She blurted out in one breath.

"Woah, woah, relax, beauty, breathe." He replied with a deep, rumbling chuckle that did things to her insides.

Why on earth am I getting affected by him?! She thought to herself, shaking her head vigorously in an attempt to rid her mind of improper thoughts of him.

Within her, she feared that if she were to give him one opening to somehow get into her, she would most definitely end up hurt—in some way. His face was not exactly the sort that one would wake up to feeling comfy.

He also did not seem like the sort that went around doing good for people he did not know. He was the sort to surely take his payment for whatever favor he’s done for someone—irrespective of how necessary, or how small it was.

In her case, it was necessary. He was her saviour. She had him to thank for coming out of that dreadful place alive. Notwithstanding, she did not see the possibility of leaving his place without a fight. And if what it would take to leave was a fight, then, by all means, she was ready to go all in to escape him.

In spite of his playful gestures, his features were contorted, and it looked almost natural. It almost seemed as though he was born that way. However, none of those were her concern. She was just fixed on figuring her way out of her current situation.
