Chapter 193: Sent away
Chapter 193: Sent away
Rhys leaned against the hood of his car, feeling as if his feet were glued to the ground. He stared nervously at the gate of Beatrix’s mansion and raked his hands through his hair.
It had taken him days to find out where she was staying. He had to ask her best friend Stella if she knew where Beatrix was.
She didn’t make it easier for him though. He had to go there every day for almost a week now before she had given up and told him where she was.
It seems his little mouse wanted to hide from him. He couldn’t blame her though, he had been a jerk. A very stupid jerk.
He could feel his heart racing, palms sweating, and hands trembling. He remembered Damien’s advice, to try and not give up.
Despite feeling scared, he took a slow step towards the front door, determined to stop being afraid and try. He hadn’t planned what to say, but he was going to improvise once he got inside.
As he approached the gate, he was stopped by two stern-looking security guards who stood in front of the entrance.
They both wore dark uniforms and had earpieces in their ears, suggesting they were part of a security detail.
As Rhys approached, his heart pounding with a mix of trepidation and hope, he found his path abruptly blocked by one of the guards, a burly figure with a stern countenance. The guard raised a hand, halting Rhys’s progress and casting a scrutinizing gaze upon him.
"State your business," the guard demanded, his voice carrying a firmness that brooked no disobedience.
Rhys, mustering his courage, looked into the guard’s eyes, his own filled with sincerity. "I want to see Beatrix please."
The guard’s expression softened, momentarily touched by Rhys’s genuine plea. He had seen him with Beatrix before so he had an idea who he was.
However, his duty compelled him to maintain an unwavering stance. "I understand your intentions, sir," he said, his tone measured and professional. "But access to the premises requires prior authorization. Without explicit permission from the lady of the house, I’m afraid I cannot grant you entry."
Rhys felt a pang of disappointment. He hadn’t considered the strict protocols guarding Beatrix’s privacy. Nevertheless, he refused to be deterred. "Please," he implored, his voice carrying a tinge of desperation. "I need to talk to her. It’s important."
The second guard, previously silent, stepped forward to join his comrade. His gaze, sharp and unwavering, scanned Rhys from head to toe, assessing his intent. After a brief pause, he spoke with a slightly softer tone, revealing a hint of empathy.
"We appreciate your sincerity, sir, but our duty is to protect Miss Beatrix. We cannot make exceptions without explicit instructions from her or someone authorized to act on her behalf."
Rhys understood the guards’ predicament and respected their commitment to their duty. Yet, his resolve burned brighter than ever.
"Can you at least pass on a message?" he requested, his voice filled with a mix of determination and hope. "Tell her that Rhys is here, that I deeply regret what happened, and I want to make amends. I’ll wait as long as it takes."
The guards exchanged a brief glance before turning back to Rhys. The first guard spoke, his tone softening slightly. "We’ll see what we can do, sir. Please wait here while we relay your message to Miss Beatrix."
With that, the two guards retreated back into the mansion, leaving Rhys standing alone at the gate. He felt a mix of relief and anxiety, his mind racing with thoughts of what Beatrix might say. Would she even consider talking to him after what he had done?
As he waited, Rhys couldn’t help but replay the events of that fateful night in his mind. He had been drunk, reckless, and had said things that he now deeply regretted. It was the biggest mistake of his life, and he knew that he had hurt Beatrix deeply.
But he was determined to make things right. He had spent the last few days soul-searching, trying to figure out how he could prove to Beatrix that he was sorry and that he had changed. He had even sought the advice of his friend Damien, who had urged him to be patient and persistent.
As Rhys stood there waiting, he felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, Beatrix would be willing to give him another chance. He knew that it wouldn’t be easy, that he had a long road ahead of him. But he was willing to do whatever it took to earn her forgiveness and win back her heart.
Time seemed to stretch on endlessly as Rhys waited, his eyes fixed on the gate. Minutes turned into hours, and the sun began to set in the sky. Just as he was about to give up hope, the guards reappeared.
"We’ve relayed your message to Miss Beatrix," the first guard said, his expression unreadable. "She has instructed us to inform you that she is not ready to see you at this time. She needs more time to think things through."
Rhys felt a pang of disappointment but refused to let it show. He knew that he had to be patient, that earning Beatrix’s forgiveness would take time. "Thank you," he said, his voice steady. "Please tell her that I understand and that I’ll be waiting for her whenever she’s ready to talk."
The guards nodded, and with that, they retreated back into the mansion, leaving Rhys alone once again. He stood there for a moment, taking a deep breath and gathering his thoughts. He looked at the windows and for a moment he thought he had seen her.
His heart skipped a beat as he caught a glimpse of a figure moving behind one of the windows on the upper floor. Was it Beatrix? Or was it just his imagination playing tricks on him?
Determined not to let his hopes get the better of him, Rhys took a step closer to the gate, squinting his eyes to get a better look. There she was, standing by the window, her silhouette illuminated by the soft glow of the
As he stared up at the window, Beatrix seemed to sense his gaze. Their eyes met for a brief moment before she turned away, disappearing from view.
