The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 150: Friend

Chapter 150: Friend

Ava took a deep breath before pushing open the door to Beatrix’s hospital room. She had been dreading this visit, but she knew she needed to see her friend, to make sure that she was okay. She walked slowly into the room, her eyes scanning the bed for any sign of movement.

"Bea?" she called softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

There was a moment of silence before Beatrix stirred, her eyes flickering open as she struggled to sit up. Ava rushed over to her side, gently placing a hand on her shoulder to help her.

"Hey," Beatrix said, her voice weak but filled with relief. "I was hoping you’d come."

Ava nodded, her eyes filling with tears as she looked at her friend. Beatrix’s face was pale and drawn, her body still weak from the trauma of being shot. But despite everything, there was a smile on her lips.

"How are you feeling?" Ava asked, her voice shaking with emotion.

Beatrix smiled weakly. "I’m alive," she said. "That’s something, right?"

Ava nodded, unable to speak as she fought back tears. She sat down in the chair next to Beatrix’s bed, taking her hand in hers.

"I’m so sorry," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "I just thought I had lost you too. I was so scared."

Beatrix squeezed her hand, her eyes locking onto Ava’s. "Don’t worry I’m fine now," she said firmly. "You’re not going to lose me. And besides, I’m tough. I’ll be back on my feet in no time."

Ava managed a weak smile, grateful for the reassurance. "I know," she said. "But I can’t help worrying about you."

Beatrix gave her a mischievous grin. "Well, you can make it up to me by bringing me some decent food," she said. "I’m sick of hospital food."

Ava laughed, relieved to see a hint of her friend’s old spirit returning. "I’ll see what I can do," she said. "But first, I’m just glad you’re okay."

And with that, Ava settled in next to Beatrix, "So Xavier was telling me what had happened. I told you to becareful about that bitch. I knew you shouldn’t trust her. Her eyes were so full of malice and cunningness I’m surprised you didn’t see. You’re too innocent for this crazy world."

Beatrix sighed, "I know but I thought she was my friend."

Ava patted Beatrix’s hand sympathetically, "I understand, it’s hard to know who to trust sometimes. But now that you know the truth, you can move forward and make better decisions."

Beatrix nodded, "You’re right. I need to be more careful and observant from now on."

Ava smiled, "That’s the spirit! And if you ever need someone to talk to or someone to watch your back, I’m here for you."

Beatrix felt a warm feeling in her chest at Ava’s kind words. Despite only having known her for a short time, she felt like she could trust her completely. "Thank you, Ava. You’re a true friend."

The two of them sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes, before Beatrix spoke again.

"So how are things with Ace? I heard he helped them to find me. I don’t know why he is helping us though but because of you I’m going to trust him."

Ava stiffened at Beatrix’s words and her face contorted into a frown.

"We are okay I guess. He has been busy with work. Actually..." Ava fiddled with her fingers a deep blush tainted on her cheeks.

Beatrix raised her brows waiting for her to talk but Ava just hit her lips as if she was contemplating if she should tell Beatrix what was bothering her.

"What?" Beatrix urged her to continue.

"I’m pregnant!" Ava blurted out.

Beatrix’s eyes widened in surprise as she stared at Ava, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to form a response. Finally, she managed to find her voice.

"Wow, Ava, that’s amazing news!" Beatrix exclaimed, a smile spreading across her face.

Ava looked down, her blush deepening. "I know, I’m just not sure how Ace is going to take it. I mean, we haven’t really talked about our future together or anything like that."

Beatrix reached out and took Ava’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I’m sure he’ll be thrilled," she said. "And if he’s not, well, he doesn’t deserve you."

Ava nodded, feeling a little more confident. "Thanks, Bea. I just hope everything works out."

Beatrix gave her another smile. "It will. And if you ever need anything, you know I’m here for you."

Ava returned the smile, feeling grateful for Beatrix’s friendship. "I know. And I’m so glad to have you in my life."

Beatrix nodded. "Me too."

"So when are you and Damien tying the knot? I never knew Rhys was Damien’s brother too. With the way he looks at you I thought he was in love with you or something was going on between you two at the club."

Ava let out a chuckle as she explained. She had been pressuring Beatrix to tell her what was going on between her and Rhys but she never said anything.

As Beatrix responded to Ava’s question, a blush crept up her cheeks, and she felt a twinge of guilt for not being forthcoming about her situation. She had been hesitant to tell Ava about her romantic involvement with both brothers, fearing that her friend might judge her.

Additionally, Beatrix had not yet given much thought to marriage with Damien. She couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for her and her relationships with both brothers.

"I’m not sure," Beatrix replied to Ava’s question about marriage. "He hasn’t proposed yet, so I’m just waiting to see what happens."

Ava nodded, but something in Beatrix’s tone made her pause. "Are you okay, Bea?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

Beatrix hesitated for a moment before responding. "I don’t know," she admitted. "Things are just...complicated."

Ava leaned in, eager to hear more. "What do you mean?" she asked.

"I’m fucking both brothers..." Beatrix blurted out.

Ava’s eyes widened in shock at Beatrix’s sudden confession. She felt a jolt of surprise and confusion, struggling to process the unexpected revelation.

"What?" Ava whispered, her voice barely audible.

Beatrix hung her head, feeling ashamed and embarrassed by her admission. She had been keeping her involvement with both brothers a secret for so long, and now that the truth was out, she felt exposed and vulnerable.

"I know, it’s messed up," Beatrix said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I never planned for it to happen like this, but I just can’t help how I feel."

Ava took a deep breath, trying to push past her shock and be supportive of her friend. "It’s okay, Bea," she said, trying to sound reassuring. "It’s not for me to judge. But you do know this can’t go on forever, right?"

Beatrix nodded, feeling a sense of resignation settle over her. She knew that her situation was complicated, and that something would have to give eventually. But for now, she couldn’t bring herself to let go of either brother.

"I know," Beatrix said, her voice tinged with sadness. "But for now, I just don’t know what to do."

Ava sighed, "But I see how they both care about you. You’re lucky to have them."

Beatrix looked up, her eyes locking with Ava’s. "I know," she said softly. "And I care about them both too. That’s the problem."

Ava nodded, understanding the weight of Beatrix’s words. "I get it," she said. "But at some point, you’ll have to make a decision. You can’t keep stringing them both along forever."

Beatrix nodded, feeling the weight of the truth in Ava’s words. She knew that she couldn’t keep this up indefinitely, but the thought of choosing between the two men she loved was almost unbearable.

"I know," she said, her voice heavy with emotion. "I just want both of them. I want to build a family with them both."

Ava frowned, the weight of the situation settling heavily on her shoulders. "Bea, that’s not really possible," she said gently. "You can’t build a family with two brothers at the same time."

Beatrix nodded, the tears now streaming down her face. "I know," she sobbed. "But I can’t help how I feel. I love them both so much, and I don’t want to lose either of them."

Ava sighed, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over her. She wanted to help Beatrix, but she didn’t know how.

Ava put a hand on Beatrix’s shoulder, trying to offer some comfort. "I know, Bea," she said. "I’m here for you, no matter what. And we’ll figure this out together."

The door suddenly opened and Beatrix turned to find her brother, Matteo standing at the door.

Her face turned pale as her heart thumped harder in her chest.

Ever since that day she hadn’t seen him. She wondered if he had overheard their conversation.

"M-matteo..." she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.
