The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 149: Remind him

Chapter 149: Remind him

Beatrix placed her hand on his cheek, urging him to look at her "I’m okay" she assured him

"Come here." She said beckoning at Damien.

Damien stepped forward and she pulled his face closer to hers but then paused and raised her brows.

She wanted to kiss him but realized that she hadn’t clean her teeth yet. She flushed and opted for his forehead.

Damien tried to lowered his head to kiss her but she pulled away, a faint flush.

"Actually - kissing me right now would probably taste like kissing a toilet. Maybe get me some mouthwash first"

Damien cut him off by putting his finger on her lips, shutting away her words. "I don’t mind."

Beatrix stared at him with a questioning look. Then, slowly, he leaned closer to her and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

Beatrix seemed taken aback for a while, but then, she started to kiss him back. Their kiss was so soft and slow.

She poured all of her emotions into it, all her feelings for him. Her love for him.

And he kissed her back like he thought it was the last time he’d be able to, and the first time he had ever kissed her all at the same time.

When they finally pulled away, there was so much emotion in his eyes.

He stroked her hand, a soft smile touching her lips as tears brim his eyes.

"You-you woke up," he whispered.

"I thought you wouldn’t." He added.

Beatrix gazed at him, a soft smile on her lips. "I had a dream," she rasped, her voice just as weak as his stare. "And there, Rhys called me. Many times."

Beatrix turned to glance at him and brushed his fingers across his cheek. There was a tear in the corner of his eye, and she wiped it away as it escaped.

Rhys’ lips tremble, and he choked in tears. He stared at her, his eyes begging. "Beatrix," he whispered.

"I’m sorry. I’m sorry for all that I’ve done to you. I’m sorry that because of me you got hurt. I shouldn’t have left you alone in the washroom"

Beatrix shook her head. She didn’t like how he was blaming himself. No one knew this would have happened.

"You didn’t know this would happen right? Don’t blame yourself. I’m fine now that’s the most important thing." Beatrix interrupted him.

"Does that mean I’m forgiven?" he asked , and she couldn’t help the small smile touching her lips.

A soft smile tugs at his lips too, taking her breath away. She liked his smile. She had been missing it.

"Yeah." she replied and realized that Damien was quietly staring at her.

"You’re stupid," Damien whispered, making her look at him with a questioning look again. "Why did you do that?" His voice was slightly shaking now.

"Why did you shield me from the bullet? Did you know how I feel when you did that? Can’t you imagine how I feel if you’re really gone?" He snapped, tears starting to blur his vision as she remembered perfectly how it happened.

Beatrix hand stroked his, as she held it in hers, trying to calm him down.

"But I’m not. I’m here," she assured. "And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because you mean everything to me."

Beatrix swallowed a lump in her throat as she continued.

"What about me? Can’t you imagine how I felt when that bitch pointed the gun at you?" She raised her tone, her voice also shaking now. "Did you know how I felt when she pulled the trigger?

I couldn’t lose you, Damien. I can’t. I won’t ever be able to." Her last sentence was barely a whisper.

Damien sighed, "Come here," he rasped , placing his hand behind her nape to pull her closer to him. Then, as she leaned down toward him again, he kissed her lips.

And she kissed him back. Again, his soft lips feel so right against hers as they kiss. The world around them seemed to fade out as they were too lost in each other’s warmth.

It felt so good to be with him again. It felt so right. The big hole in her chest no longer exists, because she was right back in their arms.

"Let me call the doctor. They had said it will take a while for you to wake up. I’m quite surprised that you’re awake now."

Beatrix shrugged, "I have two men waiting for me to wake up. I’m sure death felt bad for me."

Damien chuckled, "Yeah right. I will be right back."

He patted Rhys’ shoulder and walked out to get room to get the doctors.

Now it was left with Rhys and Beatrix. Beatrix didn’t know if Damien was giving them space to talk or something.

She turned around to face Rhys, tears welling up in her eyes.

Rhys’ face fell as he saw them. He pulled her close and embraced her , resting his head on hers.

She cried into his shirt, quietly soaking it right above his collar bone.

"Please don’t be sad, little mouse..." Rhys murmured sullenly.

Beatrix pulled away and looked at him in confusion, then smiled at him.

"I’m not sad," she whispered, looking up to him with bright, gleaming eyes. "I’m crying because I’m happy." She said, one final tear streaming down her face.

Rhys’ expression brightened in amazement, as if he didn’t expect that.

"I thought I was dead." She murmured, her voice straining as she opened her eyes to look into his that were merely inches away. Tears dampened her cheeks.

"I thought I’d never see you again, never be in your arms again, never be with you again ..." Beatrix continued, feeling her chest ache at the thought.

Rhys wiped the tears from her cheeks and studied her expression with concern.

"You’ll always have us, Beatrix, and I’ll always be here. I promise you."

Rhys stared deeply into her eyes. She could see herself in the reflection of his irises, along with every fleck of love fleeting through it

Tears continued to stroll down her face, but this time in relief.

"What do you mean by daughter was shot?!" Mr. Quinn shouted at the other end of the phone.

Damien pinched the bridge in between his nose. He had decided to inform Beatrix’s family about the turn of event after all they deserved to know what had transpired.

"Yes I’m sorry. I know I promised to protect her but I failed. I’m truly sorry." Damien muttered softly.

"Sorry?" Remo was the one who spoke this time.

"You can’t even protect the woman. You love and you’re saying you’re sorry? Aren’t you ashamed? I’m regretting giving my sister to you. Because for almost 20 years she had lived with us, nothing, I mean no one has been able to hurt her but just a few months with you and you keep managing to mess up. Tell me Damien, how the fuck are you the leader of your mafia gang?"

"Remo-"

"Fucking shut up. You’re lucky she loves you. I would have already killed you myself."

"Will you be coming back here? Like I said she is fine but if you want to see her then it’s fine with me."

There was a moment of tense silence before Remo finally spoke again.

"We’ll be there. Just make sure she’s safe," he said, his voice filled with anger and concern.

Damien let out a small sigh of relief. He knew that he had to face the consequences of his failure, but he couldn’t bear the thought of the Quinn’s seeing him as incompetent to protect their daughter.

"I will. I promise you, I’ll do everything in my power to keep her safe," Damien said, his voice filled with determination.

"Good. We’ll be there as soon as we can," Remo replied before hanging up the phone.

Damien put down the phone and leaned against the balcony. He knew that he had a lot of work to do to make things right, and he didn’t know if he could ever make it up to Beatrix’s family. But he was willing to do whatever it took to keep her safe and win their trust back.

He can’t fuck up their trust. It would ruin everything.

He sighed, raking his fingers through his hair.

"Everything okay?"

Damien turned to the voice and saw Rhys standing beside him.

"Yeah I just called Beatrix’s family. They will be here soon." He explained to him.

Rhys nodded, "Let me guess, they’re angry?"

Damien let out a chuckle, "Yeah. That man might be a monster but he sure loves his daughter."

Rhys nodded, "Yeah. He might be the most wicked person but he sure is a good father. I hate to admit."

"Hmm...he will be coming too. Are you ready to face him again? You can avoid, you have been through a lot already." Damien suggested.

Rhys shrugged, "No. it’s good that he is coming. I want to talk to him. Remind him exactly the kind of monster he is. Ask him if his daughter will be proud if she finds out exactly what he is."
