The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 143: Rescue

Chapter 143: Rescue

Beatrix stirred in a dimly lit room, her head pounding with a splitting headache. As she struggled to open her heavy eyes, she realized that she was lying in a bathtub, fully clothed and soaking wet.

Confused, she tried to recall what happened, but her memory was foggy and incomplete. The last thing she remembered was getting into a heated argument with Alina, someone she had considered as her friend.

Suddenly, the realization dawned on her: Alina had drowned her in the bathtub. Panicked, she sat up, splashing water all over the floor, and tried to get out of the tub. Her body felt sluggish and weak, and she had trouble keeping her balance.

She eventually managed to get out of the tub and stumbled to the bathroom door, which was locked from the outside.

She banged on the door and screamed for help, but her voice was hoarse and weak, and no one seemed to hear her.

Beatrix began to feel lightheaded, and she realized that she must had inhaled a lot of water.

She fell to her knees, her vision blurring, and she knew that she didn’t have much time left.

As she laid there, gasping for air, she thought about how she never suspected Alina was capable of such a cruel and ruthless act.

She thought she had found a friend but instead she had betrayed her. The last thing she heard was her own heartbeat slowing down, and then everything went black

When Beatrix opened her eyes again. A blurry form hovered over her. When the haze cleared away, she realized she was on the bed with Alina sitting beside her.

"Hey... you’re awake, sleepyhead," she said softly, leaning herself over to study her face.

Her eyes were full of gentleness and concern. She smoothed her hair and smiled. "How are you feeling, princess?"

Beatrix’s heart pounded in her chest, fear and confusion mixing within her. She tried to scoot away from Alina, but realized that her wrists and ankles were tied to the bedposts. She started to panic, pulling against her restraints.

"Tsk,tsk, I wouldn’t do that if I were you. You’re still weak darling." Alina said softly, smoothing Beatrix’s hair gently.

"Don’t touch me!" She croaked out but found her voice extremely weak.

Alina towered over her, leaning closer to her on the bed. Her heart rate kicked up a notch as fear clenched like a tight fist around her chest.

A smile touched Alina’s lips. "You should probably reserve that strength to recover fast. I need you to be my bridesmaid."

Beatrix glared at her, she decided not to mind her, maybe she would leave her alone.

"The doctor said you need to rest. You nearly died. I have to admit, you’re really tough Beatrix. I’m impressed."

Alina said softly, "Now that you have gotten a taste of death, tell me is it sweet? Do you want to die for love?" She said in a taunting voice.

"Leave me alone." Beatrix snapped at her.

"Ouch, okay okay. I will leave you alon-"

Her eyes were interrupted and their eyes all shot to the door.

Alina pulled away from her and they all turned to see the splintered door fly open.

Her heart jumped into her throat when men dressed all in black fighting gear came pouring into the room, and behind them came Damien and Xavier.

A couple of Damien’s men approached Alina and grabbed her. Alina let them hold her, a smirk still on her face as she turned to look at Damien

Damien stepped forward and stood in front of Alina.

"Ah darling,I didn’t know you missed me that much to see me this soon."

Alina greeted him with the usual amount of cockiness. Damien proceeded to look at her with pure hatred.

"What? I nearly killed you and took your sweetheart, yet you have nothing to say?" Alina taunted him. Damien didn’t respond.

"Naa but I think someone else have something to say." Damien smirked at her.

Alina frowned at him, "Who?"

Damien shrugged, "Someone who has been searching for you for a while now."

Alina face turned ashen and shook her head, "You’re kidding right?"

Damien chuckled, "No.... I even sent him a very interesting voice note."

"You didn’t. No—you wouldn’t." Alina said, for the first time Beatrix saw fear glinting in her eyes. Whoever Damien was talking about was truly her nemesis.

Could it be her father? After all she had said she was running away from him.

"I did. I’m sure he will be here soon. I just have to keep you in place until he comes."

Damien nodded at the men and stepped back from Alina and turned his head to look at Beatrix.

"Take Alina into the car.. I want you to tie her down."

Damien commanded of his men, not taking his concerned eyes off of Beatrix.

"I’m shocked,Damien , I didn’t know you were into ropes. I mean I have heard rumors and how wild you’re in the bedroom. I didn’t know it was true."

Alina joked, causing Damien to shoot her a glare.

All ten leather-clad men surrounded Alina and ushered her out of the living room. Damien and Beatrix watched her go with Xavier behind them.

Once she was gone, Damien turned and rushed over to Beatrix. He removed the restraints and gripped her in a firm but gentle embrace.

She buried her face into his shirt and held onto him tightly, even though her head was killing her.

"I’m so sorry Beatrix" Damien started to say, his voice sounding pained and laced with guilt.

Beatrix cut him off before he could go off and apologize for the next ten minutes.

"It’s not your fault, Damien. You were doing what you thought was best for me but I thought we had agreed on you not making decisions for everyone?"

Beatrix managed a small smile, taking his hand and pressing a soft kiss at the back.

"I know but I just couldn’t let her hurt you. "

"Well she did." Beatrix murmured. "She was going to kill me either way. After all, I’m an obstacle in a twisted stupid fairy tale."

"I would have protected you once I had gotten you out of here."

Beatrix pouted, "Do you really think I would have survived without you?"

Damien frowned, "Were you really serious about what you said on the phone?" He asked, his voice barely a whisper in the room.

"Yes." Beatrix answered with any hesitation.

Damien sighed as they looked at each other intensely as silence fell over them.

She knew what she said had shocked him.

He studied her serious expression, silently realizing that she was ready for death. She wondered what he would do if he found out that Alina had nearly drowned her to death.

Suddenly, he broke the silence.

"You were ready to die?" Damien murmured. She nodded, confirming his thoughts.

"If it meant not having you stuck with that crazy bitch for the rest of your life then yes, I was more than ready." Beatrix responded.

Damien didn’t reply. He just stared at her with those, amber eyes.

Damien leaned closer to her . She watched him as he kissed her softly. She felt her body warm as the gentle kiss took all the pain of the last couple of hours away for just a moment.

When he parted, he stayed close to her lips. With her eyes closed as they lingered there.

"Do you know why I love you?" Damien whispered.

Beatrix heart stopped at the three words that still shocked me.

They had had barely enough time together that was without interruption or stress to say I love you.

He had never been the first person to say these words to her before.

"Not particularly." Beatrix chuckled under her breath.

Damien took a breath and was about to respond, but was stopped by the sound of slow clapping.

"How romantic. I wish I could say this is better than every fairytale in the books, but it’s not."

Alina’s voice filled the room . Damien and Beatrix parted quickly.

She looked past Damien who stood in front of her protectively to see Alina covered in black blood from head to toe.

"How did you -" Damien stammered, but was cut off by Alina..

"How did I get out? Well, let’s just say you kinda underestimated me. I wouldn’t survive this long if I was just a pretty face. I’m hurt you think I can’t take care of couple of men. Xavier though—damn he is tough. I would barely survived if I hadn’t grabbed the gun first I would probably be dead right now."

Alina scrunched her face as if she was remembering what had transpired.

Alina watched their faces fall as she looked at them with a sinister smile on her face.

"I’ve told you time and time again what I want.

You both should know well enough by now that I will not stop until I get what I want."

Alina informed, leaning against the frame of the door into the room with a gun in her hand.
