The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 141: Lies
Chapter 141: Lies
Alina chuckled, "Who am I?"
Beatrix nodded, her heart thumping in her chest. She couldn’t help but have a bad feeling in her heart.
"I’m your friend, I’m I not?" She chuckled, playing with the strand of Beatrix’s hair.
"No I mean who are you? What do you want from me?" Beatrix was finding it hard to believe that Alina had no ulterior motive now.
From how they met to now, she wasn’t sure if it was all a coincidence. She had probably befriended her for her own personal interests but what?
Why did she approached her in the first place?"
"Oh come on Beatrix, I don’t want anything from you. I just want to be your friend." She said simply but Beatrix didn’t believe her.
The scheming glint and the mischievous smirk on her lips made her feel like she was just playing with her.
It’s like everything was a game.
"Really?" Beatrix asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes of course. You’re so cute and innocent. I want to hide you from this cruel world and keep you safe."
Beatrix frowned. She had no idea why she was talking like that. What did she mean she was so innocent and she wanted to keep her safe?
Alina’s words made Beatrix feel even more suspicious. She pulled away from Alina’s reach.
"Why do you say that? What kind of danger am I in?" Beatrix asked, her voice trembling.
"I didn’t mean it like that," Alina replied, holding her hands up in surrender. "I just meant that you deserve to be protected and cherished. That’s all."
Beatrix wasn’t convinced. She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more to Alina’s intentions.
"Then let me go home. My family is probably worried about me."
Alina’s smile faded and she looked hurt. "You don’t want to spend time with me? I thought we were friends." She said sounding hurt.
"We are..of course." Beatrix stuttered.
"Good girl," Alina said and turned her body over so she was facing her. She leaned into her neck.
felt her other hand slither under her dress.
Her cold fragrant breath brushed against her bare throat. Soon she felt her lips parted over her skin. Her body started trembling.
"Wh-what are you doing?" Beatrix felt fear gnawed at her spine.
"Nothing....trying to see what he sees in you. If you taste just as sweet as me. It’s that why he can’t stay away from you?" Alina muttered.
Beatrix tried to pull away but she realized that Alina grip on her was tighter.
She had no idea what nonsense Alina was saying. Who was she talking about?
"What are you talking about?" Beatrix questioned trying to pull away from her.
"Damien Niarchos who else darling?" Beatrix stiffened at her words. How did she know about Damien?
"How did you know him?"
Alina pulled away from her and let out a mirthless chuckle, "He didn’t tell you right?"
Beatrix frowned at her words, "Didn’t tell me what?" Nerves fluttered in her stomach.
"About our past history. You remember what I told you at the club?"
Beatrix stiffened. Of course she remembered. Alina had told her her fiancée had left her for another woman could it be.....her?
"I know you’re connecting the dots sweetheart."
Beatrix shook her head. She wouldn’t believe her. Damien would have told her.
He had told her that he hadn’t been in a serious relationship before so why was she claiming him as her fiancé?
Maybe she wanted to come in between them and she wouldn’t give her the chance. She wouldn’t believe anything until Damien had told her himself.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think you got the wrong person Alina. I’m not the girl who had stolen your fiancée."
Alina pushed her away and she stumbled slightly.
"It’s you! We were supposed to get married and have our happily ever after but you had to come and destroyed everything! Now he doesn’t want me because you have bewitched him!"
Beatrix took a deep breath, trying to remain calm in the face of Alina’s accusations.
"I understand that you are upset, but please believe me when I say that I had nothing to do with your fiancé breaking off the engagement. I am not a witch, and I have not bewitched anyone."
Alina crossed her arms over her chest, her eyes still filled with suspicion.
"Then explain to me how he could have fallen out of love with me and into love with you so quickly. It doesn’t make any sense."
Beatruc hesitated, not wanting to make the situation any worse.
"I don’t have an explanation for you. All I can tell you is that I am not responsible for your fiancé’s feelings. If he has fallen out of love with you, it is not because of anything I have done."
"Lies!"
"It’s your fault but that would change soon. Very soon we are going to be reunited." Alina said, her eyes glinting with excitement
"What are you talking about?" She sounded so confident almost as if Damien had taken her back. Could she had blackmailed him with her to get him back? Because knowing Damien there was no way he would accept Alina back right? Or she had trusted him too much.
Was him acting cold and distant to her these past few days was because he had planning on reuniting with Alina.
He wouldn’t hurt her right? Well Beatrix didn’t know what to believe right now.
"Well we would getting married very soon. Since we are friends I might make you my braids maid what do you say?"
Beatrix blinked at her, "Married? To whom? You’re joking right? "
"Damien Narchoas of course. My fiancée. "
Beatrix shook her head, "No...No I don’t believe you. You’re lying. Damien would never marry you!"
Alina’s face morphed into anger and she slapped Beatrix across her cheeks.
Beatrix grabbed her cheeks, her face morphed into shock.
"You want to bet on that?" And right on cue, her phone rang in her pockets.
Alina pulled it out from her pocket and a satisfied smile appeared on her face.
"See?" She showed the caller ID to Beatrix.
Damien.
Beatrix’s face turned ashened and her heart stopped beating inside her chest.
**********
"Hello darling, you miss me?" Alina beamed, her gaze on Beatrix as she placed the phone on loud speaker.
"Alina.." Damien cold voice sounded on the other side of the phone. Beatrix felt a knot in her stomach. She tried to shake the feeling of unease and reminded herself that he’s her fiancé and he loves her, but the fear and insecurity persisted.
"Yes dear." She cooed. Beatrix clenched her fist.
"Where is Beatrix? I want to talk to her first before my decision."
Alina glanced at her and chuckled, "I’m sorry love I can’t do that. We can’t let that woman bewitch you again can we?"
"Alina..." Damien said lowly,
"Please." He added.
Alina chuckled, "With the way you’re pleading it’s hard for me to say no to you. Fine but you have only 60seconds. Don’t mess up."
Alina gave the phone to Beatrix. Beatrix stared at it for a while. She didn’t know if she should take it or not but she wanted to hear what he had to say.
"Damien... what is she talking about? Tell me she is lying please."
Damien sighed, "I’m sorry Beatrix..."
"No...no..." Beatrix shook her head. She wouldn’t accept this. But why? Why all of a sudden?
"Listen I love you okay? You have to trust me on this." Damien said,
"She is blackmailing you with me? Is this what this is about? Tell me the truth." It’s the only reason she could think of.
"Yes. But I will—"
Alina took the phone from her, "Oopsie times up."
Beatrix wanted to protest but Alina tsked at her,
"So have you made up your mind? Because me and my friend Beatrix here is having lots of fun."
Her heart was thumping in his chest, anxious over whether it was about to break or fall to the floor as she waited for his reply.
"Yes." Damien replied.
"I will marry you..."
Beatrix felt the color drained from her face That was enough to feel like she had had a hot knife torn through her insides.
Tears welled in her eyes. Even though she knew he was doing this just to save her it still hurts. So fucking bad.
She wouldn’t let him marry her, he wouldn’t let him sacrifice his happiness for her.
They have been through a lot already.
"Damien!"
She shouted, hoping he would hear her.
"Beatrix—-" he replied, but she didn’t miss the slight tremble in his voice.
"Don’t do this. Don’t sacrifice yourself to save me. I will rather die please.... I can’t live knowing you did this for me."
Alina rolled her eyes, "Stop being dramatic." She hissed.
Beatrix shook her head, "No. I’m serious. If you marry her I will kill myself."
