The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 115: Stupid

Chapter 115: Stupid

Remo gently lifted Beatrix’s foot and examined the wound. It was a deep cut, but not too wide. He quickly fetched a first aid kit and sat down next to her.

Using tweezers, he carefully removed any bits of glass or mirror that were still embedded in the wound.

He then cleaned it thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide and covered it with a sterile bandage.

Beatrix winced in pain as Remo worked.

"Sorry, I will finish soon." He coaxed softly.

Beatrix closed her eyes and nodded, "O-okay."

"You should have let me kill him, I don’t even know what you see in that fucking bastard. If it was his looks now he is ugly as fuck. I will find you a better guy."

Remo spat bitterly. Beatrix knew that he was still angry with Damien.

"Calm down, Remo," Beatrix said, trying to diffuse the tension. "I know you don’t understand, but Damien and I have a special connection. He may not be perfect, but he’s the one I love."

Remo shook his head in frustration. "I just don’t get it. He’s nothing but a heartless bastard.

He’s going to end up hurting you, and I can’t stand to see that happen."

Beatrix cleared her throat and tried to keep her voice steady. "I appreciate your concern, but I can handle myself. I know Damien has his flaws, but I believe in him and I know he is just overwhelmed with everything that had happened with him."

Remo let out a heavy sigh. "Fine, but if he ever hurts you, I’m not going to be held responsible for my actions."

Beatrix nodded, "I know. Don’t be too hard on him okay? He is just stressed out. His whole life is crumpling apart and I know he needs me now more than ever."

Remo stared at her for a moment before he blinked, " Is that how love is?" Remo asked disgust in his voice.

Beatrix arched her brows in confusion? "What?"

"Does love makes you this stupid? Because what I see are just excuses.

Even if he is having the most shittiest day in his life he should never hurt you." Remo said

"But he didn’t-"

Remo raised his hands silencing her.

"Enough let’s stop talking about him before you irritate me any further."

Beatrix swallowed and nodded, "A-l right. So tell me how is Ares? Why didn’t he come with you guys?"

Remo shrugged, "The kid has left the house and has cut all ties with us after you left. He blames us for selling his favorite sister. He said he wants nothing to do with the family business. I think he had enrolled in medical school in another country the last time I checked. "

Beatrix heart slammed in her chest. Ares, she realized that it’s been a long time since she heard from him. She hoped he was okay and wasn’t blaming himself.

"Funny isn’t it? We end lives but your brother wants to save lives. Maybe he can be the gang doctor after he finishes the school." Remo muttered and put the things back in the first aid box.

"Remo—I don’t think he would want to do that." Beatrix whispered.

"Hmm." Remo hummed in response.

"Tell me you have put in place protective measures for him at least. He is all by himself in a foreign country." Beatrix mumbled.

Remo nodded, "Of course I have. He is still family after all."

Beatrix nodded, "Okay."

"Do you still speak to that friend of yours? What’s her name? Sarah?"

Beatrix frowned, she had no friend called Sarah.

"I don’t have any friend called Sarah."

His brows pinched together, "Really? I’m talking about the fiesty one. Your bestfriend if not your only friend."

Beatrix chuckled when she realized the person he was talking about, "Stella?"

Remo pushed his fingers through the front of his hair, pushing it away from his face before he stared at her with a serious expression.

"Hmm yeah that one."

Beatrix nodded, "Yeah I have but it’s been a long time since we spoke. I haven’t heard from her in months now and the last time I called her she didn’t pick."

Remo frowned, "Hmm I see."

"Why are you asking? Did something happened to her?" Beatrix asked concern etched in his voice.

"Y-"

"Beatrix..." A voice interrupted her. It was so low she thought she had misheard it.

She glanced at the door and saw Damien standing there.

He looked lost in his own head again, and kept cycling between just staring at her and the floor.

She stood up but winced in pain.

"Are you okay?" He asked, panic in his voice.

Remo stood up and glared at him.

"What do you want?"

Damien cleared his throat and looked at Remo.

"Can yougive us a minute - I need to have a moment alone with Beatrix"

Remo gave him a disgusted look "No. I’m not leaving her alone with you. I left her alone with you for just a second and you managed to hurt her. "

Beatrix grabbed Remo and begged him with her eyes.

"Fine I’m leaving. I will be in kitchen. Shout for me if anything happens." Remo said before he gave Damien a warning glare and walked out of the room.

Damien blew out an annoyed breath, and rubbed his forefinger and thumb against his eyes like he was trying to subside his irritation.

"Everything okay?" She prod gently, wondering what he wanted some privacy for.

Damien sighed, "I’m sorry. I-I didn’t mean to hurt you." He said, his voice quiet wrapped in apology.

Beatrix smiled at her and nodded, "I know Damien. Don’t worry about it. How are you?"

He frowned at her, "Are you not angry with me?"

Beatrix shrugged and limped towards him.

She grabbed his hands and saw the bruises there. The bleeding has stopped but the wounds were still not treated.

"How can I be angry at you? I understand you’re upset by going through a lot right now."

She said giving him a reassuring touch and pressed a kiss on his forehead to cheer him up but it was like nothing could console whatever was going through his head.

"You know that I would never hurt you, don’t you? And that you mean the world to me?" He asked quietly

"I think I do - why?" Beatrix questioned. From the way he was avoiding her gaze she had a feeling she was not going to like whatever he was about to say.

You know that feeling when you just know something bad was about to happen?

He raked his hands through his hair before he spoke,

"I don’t know how to explain this to you but I feel like everything is falling apart, Beatrix. I know you have been through a lot these past few months all because of me and for that I’m grateful. You’re the most incredible thing that had happened to me"

What he was saying should be making her heart fluttered but it was only making it sink, something didn’t feel right.

It was like the appreciation speech after a breakup. She had read enough to know how this was about to end.

"Me too Damien." She mumbled,

"You’re happiness and you mean everything to me." he stated, sounding even more solemn.

"I know" Beatrix replied, her heart pounding hard in her chest because she didn’t not like the tone in his voice.

Damien grasped her face between his hands pulling her face to his. He looked deeply into her eyes, searching for the words he wanted to say but couldn’t find.

Instead, he leaned in and kissed her. It was a kiss filled with longing and sorrow, as if it was a goodbye kiss. His lips were soft and warm, yet they trembled as they pressed against hers.

Damien’s hands were in her hair, holding her head to him as if he was trying to memorize the feel of her before they move to her face as his lips slow down to the sweetest, most fulfilling kiss he had ever given her.

God she missed him so much. The kiss was electric, full of passion and longing. Beatrix felt her knees weakened as Damien’s arms wrapped tightly around her, pulling her even closer.

His lips were soft but demanding, exploring every inch of her mouth as if it were the first time. Beatrix returned the kiss with equal fervor, her hands running through Damien’s hair, pulling him even closer.

The world around them melted away as they were lost in the moment. It was as if nothing else existed but the two of them and the intensity of their kiss.

Beatrix felt like she was floating on air, her heart pounding with excitement.

As the kiss slowly came to an end, Damien pulled back and looked into Beatrix’s eyes. There was a moment of silence as they both caught their breath, and then the magical moment was destroyed in a flash as he whispered.

"I can’t do this"

Beatrix froze before she let out a mirthless chuckle, "What?"

She blinked and her heart dropped at the sadness in his eyes.

"Damien—what—do—you mean by you can’t do this?" She stuttered, nerves fluttering in her stomach.
