The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 111: Ruined him
Chapter 111: Ruined him
Rhys was suffocating.
He couldn’t breathe. He was sitting in the hotel room. The windows were tightly sealed and the air was thick with the smell of alcohol and stale cigarettes.
He was sweating profusely and fidgeting in his seat, glancing around the room as if searching for an escape.
His chest felt tight and he couldn’t seem to catch his breath.
He stood up and began pacing back and forth, feeling trapped and suffocated by the overwhelming feeling of being stuck in his life.
He was feeling more and more disoriented as the memories and triggers of his trauma started flooding his mind. He couldn’t escape them, no matter how hard he tried.
He felt trapped in his own mind, unable to escape the spiraling thoughts and fear.
He was terrified.
He kept screaming but nothing came out and that feeling of fear was back.
Seeing that monster again had woken up his demons.
And now he was slipping deeper and deeper into that dark abyss again.
He could see their faces filled with mocking expression, their laughter as he begged them to stop.
But they kept dragging him, keeping him in the hell he could never get away from.
And just as he felt completely shrouded in darkness he saw her.
Her smile radiated light as she told him to hold on, to not let the darkness consume him.
His chest tightened wishing he could. She stretched her hands reaching for him.
But no matter how hard he tried to give her his hand he couldn’t. He was falling down the pits but he didn’t want to.
He wanted her to save him, to make it all go away but he knew she couldn’t. No one could save him.
Tears slid down her face as she begged him to keep on trying.
He just wanted Beatrix. He wanted her comfort.
He knew they would never let her go and he will always be like this.
She couldn’t help him without him dragging her down with him and he would never do that to her.
He would rather die. As the drugs began to work and he felt his heart rate begin to slow and his body shut down,he experienced a sense of relief.
This was the only means for the constant fear and torment to cease. As his vision began to fade,he would soon find peace.
However, the persistent, terrifying voice that had haunted him throughout his life echoed in his mind and sent shivers down her spine.
"Get on your knees ,kid."
His body went rigid and he covered his face with his shaking hands, trying to steady his breathing and push away the disturbing images that haunt him.
These nightmares have plagued him since he was a teenager, and no matter how hard he tried, he could never escape them. But now, she was in them too.
The only time they disappeared was when he was with her.
He blinked away the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes, feeling the familiar fear and pain twisting in his gut.
He rushed to the bathroom and collapsed in front of the toilet, retching and trying to rid his body of anything left in his stomach. The feeling of unease on his skin was compounded by the ache in his chest as Beatrix’s face flashed in his mind.
She had consumed his thoughts since he left her at the hospital, tearing him apart until he could barely breathe. He wondered if this was what guilt felt like. He thought about looking it up. He slumped over the toilet, gasping for air and trying to rid his mouth of the sour taste.
He didn’t want to feel this way. He had tried so hard to be different, to not hurt anyone, but he failed.
He shouldn’t have irritated his brother. But he had been angry and at that moment he wanted to make her hate him. Maybe if she hated him, he wouldn’t feel bad for not being good enough for him.
She was too gentle and pure for the messed up world he was in, let alone what was in his head.
Her father had created a monster, a monster who was insecure to be around her. Who didn’t think she deserved him.
He wondered at times if her eyes would be filled with disgust if she got to know the truth. Would she want to touch him again? Or would she even allow him to touch her?
He had been tainted. Ruined forever. By her own father. The man he loathed with everything that he had. The man he wouldn’t rest until he had destroyed.
Rhys cried out in frustration as he hit the wall beside the toilet, trying to silence the relentless screaming in his head. Despite his efforts, he eventually gave in and did the only thing that brought him relief, even if it was only temporary.
The pain was unbearable.
It was like being trapped in a maize. No matter how much he searched for an exit he couldn’t find it.
He was lost, and couldn’t escape from the monsters.
It’s funny how a monster could raise a perfect human being like Beatrix. So carefree and innocent about how dark the world really was.
Rhys pulled himself up from the toilet, staggering out into his room, and grabbed a bottle to try and numb his mind somewhat for what he was about to do.
There was no point in fighting it any more, he tried, it always came back to this.
He gulped the whisky down like it was water, waiting until he couldn’t feel his face or twisting in his gut any more.
He grabbed some pills from the cabinet above the sink, washing them down until the bottle was over half empty and blinked when he pulled it away from his lips, waiting for that same fog to fill his brain.
Rhys stood up from the toilet and stumbled into his room, where he grabbed a bottle of alcohol in an effort to dull his mind before performing an action he knew he couldn’t avoid. He had tried to resist it many times before but to no avail.
He drank the whiskey quickly, hoping to numb the pain and discomfort he felt both in his face and stomach.
He also took several pills from the medicine cabinet, swallowing them until the bottle was half empty, and waited for the haze to cloud his mind.
He covered his eyes with his palms as tears filled them again, thinking of Beatrix’s sad eyes. He knew that soon he would be able to release the demon inside of him, clawing for relief in the pit of his stomach.
He undressed and lay down on the bed, feeling the warmth of the alcohol and drugs dulling the pain until he could escape his thoughts. However, he couldn’t stop himself.
His mind won again, and he found himself engaged in what he despised the most. His hands moved on their own, and his moans and groans filled the room.
No one knew what it was like, to be like this, he did this to him.
They ruined him.
