The Supreme Soldier in the City -
Chapter 31 - 31 31 Became a White-collar Worker
31: Chapter 31: Became a White-collar Worker 31: Chapter 31: Became a White-collar Worker QLMM Group’s subsidiary, JYPP Region Trading Company, occupies the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth floors of the entire office building.
In YODC City, the rental cost for such an office building is also very high.
The rent for these three floors amounts to no less than seventy thousand dollars per year, which is not something an ordinary small company can afford.
Thus, it is evident that the development of JYPP Region Trading Company is indeed going quite well.
For a subsidiary company to have such a scale is indeed something for Gina Lopez to take pride in.
She knows only too well the hardships of building a small company to this point.
At 7:30, before work hours had even begun, she was already seated in her fourteenth-floor office.
Gina Lopez was diligently organizing the company development plan that had been crafted over the New Year.
With the new year, she harbored even greater ambitions, ready to take JYPP Region Trading Company to the next level.
After busying herself for an hour, Gina Lopez glanced at the time and called the Human Resources Department.
The call was answered by the minister of the department, David Johnson, who was assigned by the Group.
He was related to one of the leaders of the Group.
Although he lacked capability, Gina Lopez still offered him the position of HR minister.
Though she was the CEO at JYPP, there was still the parent Group above.
Hence, many matters still required her to report to the Group.
What annoyed her most was that the Group would often assign certain individuals to the subsidiaries.
These individuals often lacked competence, yet she was compelled to find positions for them and could not refuse.
“Good morning, Ms.
Lopez,” David Johnson’s voice came through the handset, his tone still very respectful which was somewhat comforting to Gina Lopez.
At least they feared her as the CEO to some degree, otherwise, managing the company would have been even more challenging.
Gina Lopez said straightforwardly, “Minister Johnson, there will be a person named James Brown coming to see you later.
Arrange for him to join the logistics department.”
“Alright, does Ms.
Lopez have any specific instructions regarding his placement?”
“No, let Minister Johnson from logistics arrange it himself.”
David Johnson, thirty-five years old and slightly over one meter seventy, had a bit of a belly and a round face.
Although not very capable at work, he was very smooth in his dealings.
So under Gina Lopez, the general manager, he hadn’t received much criticism.
Staffing arrangements within the company were always through open recruitment.
Even if there were special arrangements, they were from the Group.
Since James Brown was directly handled by Gina Lopez, he must be either from the Group’s side or her relative.
Never having had the chance to curry favor with Gina Lopez, David Johnson saw this as an opportunity.
Before James Brown even arrived, David Johnson was already thinking about how to ingratiate himself with him.
Just then, a knock sounded on his office door.
David Johnson straightened himself and said, “Come in.”
The person entering was James Brown, dressed in a gray jacket over jeans, not switching to a suit just because he would become a white-collar worker.
With a smile, he greeted David Johnson, “Hello, Minister Johnson, I’m James Brown.”
David Johnson looked at James Brown, feeling a sense of familiarity but couldn’t quite place it.
Hesitating, he asked, “Have we met somewhere before?”
James Brown hurriedly replied, “Minister Johnson, I used to be a security guard for the building.
I saw you every day.”
David Johnson took a closer look and recognition dawned on him.
His mind began to puzzle over the possibility of James Brown having some connection with Gina Lopez.
Otherwise, how could he have been a security guard before?
“Little Lee, what brings you to our company?” David Johnson probed.
“Heh-heh, thanks to Ms.
Lopez, who appreciated my dedication at work, I was specially invited to work in the company.
I really need to thank Ms.
Lopez for her recognition.”
Hearing this, David Johnson understood that Gina Lopez had no particular connection with James Brown.
In the company, Gina Lopez always based personnel decisions on capability.
As long as one was competent, there were definitely possibilities for promotions and raises under her.
Leaning back, David Johnson immediately put on the air of a minister, “Little Lee, Ms.
Lopez has already told me about you.
Do well in the company from now on.”
“Thank you, Minister Johnson.
And my work…”
“Little Dave!” Minister Johnson called out loudly, and shortly after, a young man around twenty-six or twenty-seven walked in, “Little Dave, process Little Lee’s paperwork and then take him to logistics.
I’ll let Ms.
Smith know.”
Little Dave responded and led James Brown out, smiling, “Hi, I’m John Wilson.”
“Hi, I’m James Brown.
I hope for Brother Wilson’s guidance in the days to come.”
“There’s no need for formalities.
In our company, as long as you work hard, there are plenty of opportunities.
Ms.
Lopez’s eyes are wide open.”
Impressed by what John Wilson had said, James Brown couldn’t help but admire Gina Lopez’s capability.
A charismatic CEO certainly held strong cohesion, and it was clear that Gina Lopez had achieved that.
The two completed the necessary procedures in the HR department, and then John Wilson took James Brown to the logistics department.
The logistics were located on the thirteenth floor’s far end, occupying three offices.
The furthest one was the minister’s office, followed by three deputy minister offices.
One deputy had earned the position based on capability, while the other two were idle figures sent from above, barely coming to the office.
The remaining room was for the logistics staff, with ten small cubicles, designed in the typical company office style so as not to disturb one another.
James Brown followed John Wilson directly into the minister’s office inside.
Minister Davis was a woman in her thirties, named Emma Davis, slightly overweight.
Though not very pretty, she appeared very capable.
John Wilson seemed somewhat afraid of this Minister Davis, and after leaving James behind, he turned around and walked away.
After carefully reviewing the resume that James had just filled out, Emma Davis looked up and examined James from top to bottom before pointing to the chair in front of her desk and saying, “Have a seat.”
James sat down with a smile and said, “Thank you, Minister Davis.
I’ll be working under your guidance from now on, so please feel free to give me any advice.”
Minister Davis’s face showed no smile as she stared into James’s eyes and said, “Ms.
Lopez told me you’re a capable person and instructed me to train you well.
I hope you won’t disappoint me, nor Ms.
Lopez.”
James immediately straightened up and replied, “I will definitely work hard and not fail the expectations of the minister and Ms.
Lopez.”
Emma Davis nodded and then looking down, she said, “According to your resume, you’ve been a soldier and worked as a security guard, but you don’t have other work experience, so I can’t assign you any important tasks for now.
You’ll start off assisting in the department, and once I get to know you better over time, I’ll assign you a specific job.”
“Okay,” James replied agreeably.
“Then follow me,” said Emma Davis as she led James to the adjacent staff office.
She clapped her hands, which prompted everyone inside to look towards the door.
Emma Davis announced, “Everyone, pay attention, please.
Today, I’d like to introduce a new colleague to you all.”
James immediately said, “Hello everyone, my name is James Brown.”
Everyone gazed at James with a look of curiosity but didn’t forget to applaud as a welcome gesture.
Emma Davis continued, “Little Erin, you’ll be mentoring James.
He’ll work with you temporarily until he gets accustomed, and then I’ll arrange other tasks for him.”
A young girl stood up, seemingly astonished, and asked, “I’m the mentor?”
With a stern face, Emma Davis said, “Is there a problem?”
“No… no problem at all,” the girl quickly replied, shaking her head in a fluster.
She was a woman in her twenties, with long, smooth hair that fell over her shoulders and bangs cut straight across her forehead.
She had a very pleasing oval face, and such long, over-the-shoulder hair suited an oval face best, something this girl clearly understood.
Her eyes weren’t round, so they didn’t appear very large, but they were rather comely, the kind that grew on you the more you looked.
Her cheeks were flushed with nervousness at the moment.
She was probably about 5’6″ or 5’7″ tall, but that would depend on the height of her heels, which James couldn’t see from his angle.
She wore a dark suit with a very open neckline, and underneath was a white shirt with ruffles at the front, which made the suit look quite attractive.
The firm bust gave the typical business outfit a look of competence, but her inherently demure charm was irrepressible.
She was very pretty, not the kind that took your breath away at first glance, but definitely the kind of beauty one wouldn’t easily forget.
“That settles it then.
Little Erin, you show James around the office, and you decide on his work assignments,” Minister Davis said, then turned and left.
Little Erin hesitated for a moment before approaching James with a flushed face, pursing her lips and reaching out her hand, saying, “My name is Sarah Utah.”
James shook hands with Sarah Utah.
Her hand was very soft, yet a bit cool.
He smiled and said, “Nice to meet you.
I will rely on your guidance as the newcomer.”
Sarah nodded and said, “I will do that.
This is Andrew Brown, Big Brother Brown; he is our logistics department’s most experienced person.
This is Emily Smith; we all call her Ms.
Berk.
And these are Ryan Easton and William Clark; they are the company’s drivers.”
Including Sarah and James, there were six people in the logistics department: two drivers, the forty-something Andrew Brown, the thirty-something Emily Smith, and the two drivers in their thirties, Ryan Easton, and William Clark.
Apart from Sarah, who was a year younger than James, the other four were older than him, so James had to address them as brothers and sisters.
However, James wasn’t averse to this; after all, he had a beautiful “sister.”
James was actually looking forward to working in the company.
During his missions, he had disguised himself as various people, and had worked in different places for the sake of the mission, but he had never experienced being an office worker.
Now, he was eager to get a taste of this new role, surely an exciting thing in its own right.
