The Supreme Soldier in the City -
Chapter 30 - 30 30 s Don't Care
30: 30 chapters Don’t Care 30: 30 chapters Don’t Care James Brown did not have the habit of bringing home a strange woman; it was too dangerous.
Over the years, he developed this habit primarily because all he wanted was a one-night stand, just a release to satisfy his physical needs.
He did not want to get involved with a clingy woman because of that.
Women could be extremely prideful and indifferent before you got their bodies, but once you did, they could become clingy.
James certainly couldn’t afford to deal with such women right now.
Arriving at a nearby hotel, James wrapped his arms around the waist of a half-drunk woman and entered the room.
This woman had a very attractive figure and at the age of twenty-six or twenty-seven, she was at her prime—not as green as a young girl nor as lax as women over thirty.
Going to bed with a woman of this age group was always his favorite, especially when the woman was as beautiful as this one; she was truly top-notch.
After closing the door, the woman suddenly tensed up, pushed James away, and staggered back a few steps, clutching her chest with a look of panic in her eyes.
James really did not expect that this woman, now here in this room, would still feel regretful.
He shook his head and sighed, “If you regret it now, you can leave.
I won’t force you.”
The woman met James’s gaze and burped, asking, “Do you really mean that?”
James shrugged his shoulders with a helpless smile and responded, “Of course, I mean it.
I always prefer everything to be consensual.
If you’re not willing, forcing you doesn’t make any sense.” After saying that, he opened the bathroom door and added, “I’ll take a shower first, to give you time to think.
If you haven’t left by the time I finish, then I’ll assume you’ve decided to stay.”
After running a bath, James stripped off his clothes and soaked in the tub.
The water temperature was just right at forty-two degrees Celsius, relaxing his whole body.
Sweat appeared on his skin quickly as the alcohol from his body slowly sweated out, leaving a faint smell of alcohol in the bathroom.
During this time, James did not hear the door open; apparently, the woman had not left yet.
It seemed she was willing to stay, or perhaps she was still conflicted and might run out the moment he opened the door after his shower.
This was James’s judgment about this woman, because she seemed incredibly indecisive.
However, James’s judgment was wrong this time.
Just as he was comfortably soaking, the bathroom door suddenly opened, and the woman walked straight up to the tub, her face flushed red as if blood would drip from it.
Nevertheless, she looked at James and said, “I’ll join you.”
James responded with a bright smile, “I’d be delighted.”
The next morning, James woke up early, a habit he had developed over many years.
Even though he had left the military, he hadn’t abandoned such routines.
He indeed wanted to live a peaceful life, but had never thought of giving up the skills he had learned, nor letting his body slowly degenerate into peacefulness.
The woman in his arms was still fast asleep, showing the aftereffects of last night’s frenzy, which was profound weariness.
James could recover quickly, but this woman was clearly exhausted.
Thinking that he still had the day off, James didn’t rush to get up.
There was nothing pressing to do, and it seemed better to stay in bed cuddling this beautiful woman under the pulled blankets instead of turning on the air conditioning.
Despite the warmth it added during the night, James didn’t enjoy the hot air it blew.
After sleeping in again, the woman woke up around eight o’clock.
Although she was still nestled in his arms, James could clearly feel her confusion, guilt, and pain.
James said and did nothing.
Why this woman was conflicted and in pain wasn’t his concern.
They were just fulfilling each other’s needs without involving responsibilities, and James did not intend to take on any such responsibilities.
Suddenly, he felt a chill on his chest, along with a slightly wet sensation—the woman was crying.
James couldn’t offer her anything except to continue pretending to sleep.
After a while, the woman slowly let go of James, got out of bed, dressed in silence, and gave James one last look before swiftly leaving the room.
Once the door closed, James finally opened his eyes and stretched his limbs, feeling incredibly refreshed.
A one-night stand with such a beautiful woman was indeed a delightful affair.
After freshening up, James got dressed and prepared to leave, but accidentally found an ID card on the floor—that of the woman from last night.
“Sunny Nguyen.” James muttered the woman’s name, tucked the ID into his pocket, and planned to hand it over to the hotel’s front desk later for her to retrieve.
Although the woman was beautiful, James had no desire to continue the romance.
Stepping out of the elevator heading toward the front desk, James’s phone rang.
It was Gina Lopez.
He quickly answered.
“James Brown, Sandra just called me a while ago wanting to speak with you.
I told her you went out and would be back shortly.
Where are you now?
I’ll come pick you up, and you can talk to Sandra when I call again.”
“There’s no need to pick me up.
I’ll just call her back directly.”
“No way, no way, Sandra is obviously testing us.
If we’re not together, she’ll quickly notice something is off.
These past few days, my mom has been pushing me to find her a match.
If she finds out we’re faking it, she’ll definitely push me back to my mom.
Quick, tell me the address, I’ll come pick you up.”
James Brown broke into a sweat.
This fake boyfriend gig was still not over.
He reluctantly gave the name of the hotel he was in, and Gina Lopez responded with excitement, “I can be there in less than a minute, come out immediately.”
What a coincidence, James Brown had no choice but to pay and leave the hotel.
As he reached the entrance, he saw Gina Lopez’s Buick pull up.
After getting into the car, Gina Lopez sighed with relief and handed her phone to James Brown, saying, “Call Sandra back.”
James Brown nodded and dialed Sandra’s number, laughing as he spoke, “Sandra, what’s up?”
“Huh, you’re really with Gina?” Sandra sounded surprised.
“Heh, of course, we’re together.
I just went out to buy breakfast.
Your sister wanted something light, so I went to the supermarket to buy some bamboo shoots to make bamboo shoot porridge.”
“Ah, I want to eat that too.”
“Well, when you come over, your brother-in-law will cook some for you.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t keep you from cooking porridge for Gina then.
Bye now.”
“Bye.”
After hanging up, James made a victorious gesture and handed the phone back to Gina.
Gina sighed with relief but immediately wrinkled her brow and sniffled, saying, “Seems like quite the merry life.”
James knew instantly why Gina felt that way.
The woman from yesterday hadn’t worn makeup, but she had sprayed some perfume, so there was still a faint scent of perfume on him.
Combined with the fact that he had come out of a hotel, Gina must have guessed he had spent the night there with another woman.
However, James didn’t mind.
Smiling, he said, “Boss, does this mean my mission is complete?”
Gina nodded, took out approximately two thousand dollars from her purse, and said, “This is for you.
Don’t turn your phone off lately, I might need to reach you anytime.”
James quickly said, “You needn’t bother, it was just a phone call.”
“I don’t want to owe you anything.
It’s settled then.
Don’t worry, you can still come to my office tomorrow.”
James understood Gina’s point; she didn’t want any strings attached.
Their relationship was purely professional.
He cheerfully accepted the money and got out of the car.
Gina’s Buick started up immediately, blending into the traffic and disappearing from sight.
James shook his head, knowing Gina had a poor impression of him, mainly because of the perfume scent and staying in the hotel, clearly thinking he wasn’t a good man.
Regardless, James didn’t care.
He didn’t aim to leave a good impression on Gina.
Besides, it was his private life.
Even as the boss, Gina couldn’t control her subordinate’s personal life.
He hailed a cab and returned home, but upon removing his coat, he suddenly remembered the woman’s ID was still on him.
It was already late, so he decided to return it when he had time.
Lying in his bed, James couldn’t help but relive the crazy night before.
It had been a long time since he had such thrill, and in every way, that woman was exceptional—beautiful with an incredible figure; primarily, she was wild enough to taste the danger, and James wouldn’t mind another encounter if it weren’t for the potential trouble.
Shaking his head, James dismissed those thoughts.
He wasn’t ready to tie himself down with emotions just yet, especially since…
there was another person he needed to figure out.
He definitely wasn’t ready to just pick a woman and get married.
