“Brother-in-law, could you tell me some of your past stories?” Emily clung to James’s sleeve, giving it a gentle shake, filled with anticipation.

James flashed a toothy smile and said, “You might be thinking too much.

I’m just an ordinary person, and I don’t seem to have anything worth remembering.”

Emily stared into James’s eyes and firmly shook her head, saying, “I don’t believe that.”

With a shrug, James replied, “You might not believe me, but there’s nothing I can do about it.

When I have time, I’ll tell you about my past and you can see if there’s anything you’d like to hear.

Just don’t be too disappointed.”

“I won’t be disappointed, definitely not!” Emily exclaimed joyfully.

James laughed, “But shouldn’t we be going upstairs now?

Uncle and Aunt are waiting for us to come up and eat dumplings.”

Though Emily was somewhat reluctant, today was clearly not the right time for stories, so she went upstairs with James.

Eating dumplings and nibbling on pork knuckles, Emily’s parents were very traditional; every Chinese New Year’s Eve they ate such things.

Looking at the steaming dumplings and the well-prepared pork knuckles, James’s memories suddenly took him back seven years.

It was the same kind of New Year’s Eve meal then, and his parents had given him the biggest pork knuckle, watching him eat it with smiles on their faces.

His foot was kicked, and then he heard Gina complain, “What are you thinking about?

Mom’s talking to you, and you don’t even respond.”

James quickly apologized to Mrs.

Lopez, “Aunt, I’m so sorry.

I was just thinking about the past for a moment.

It’s been many years since I last enjoyed a New Year’s Eve dinner like this.”

Mrs.

Lopez immediately replied, “Don’t think about the past anymore.

Forget anything that makes you unhappy.

Today is New Year’s; think happy thoughts.

From now on, you should celebrate New Year’s with us every year.”

James nodded vigorously, took the big pork knuckle, and bit into it fiercely, which made Gina frown slightly, feeling James was really too carefree about his image.

However, Gina’s parents seemed extremely delighted, squinting their eyes.

The more James behaved this way, the more genuine he seemed to them.

They actually disliked those boys who always acted restrained in front of them.

As the midnight bells rang, Emily immediately jumped up, “Happy New Year, Dad!

Happy New Year, Mom!

Happy New Year, sister!

Happy New Year, brother-in-law!” The words burst from her mouth like beans, as she separately bowed to each of the four.

Jonathan Lopez and his wife immediately each took out a red envelope and handed them to Emily.

Gina also gave her sister a red envelope, giving her a reproachful look, “It’s only at this time of year that you genuinely consider me your sister.”

Emily giggled, saying, “Not really, I always think of you as my sister when you give me benefits.” Then she reached her hand out to James.

Gina had already prepared James’s red envelope, and at this moment, James took out the red envelope and handed it to Emily.

Emily, proudly collected the red envelope and ran inside to count her money.

Gina and James also stood up at this point, giving Jonathan Lopez and his wife respectful New Year’s greetings.

Gina was quite formal about it, and James had no psychological barriers; not to mention anything else, just being able to celebrate such a peaceful New Year here made him feel it was right to pay his respects properly.

“James, this is for you.” Jonathan Lopez and his wife each handed James a red envelope.

“Thank you, Uncle, thank you, Auntie,” James gladly accepted it, feeling a warm glow inside.

The importance of the red envelope was not in its size but in the atmosphere it created, especially for someone like James, who had lost both his parents.

Receiving a red envelope was a great comfort.

After the New Year’s greetings, Gina called James back to the bedroom and tossed him a pair of socks and a new shirt, saying, “Change.”

“Are we changing to sleep?” James was somewhat puzzled.

Gina explained, “It’s about stepping on the ‘little people’ and changing into the new shirt too, then going out for a walk.

It symbolizes a fresh start for the New Year.

Let my parents see, it’s our family tradition.”

James quickly changed into the socks, but when he looked at the shirt, he whispered, “Am I changing into it now?”

Gina glared fiercely at James and said, “Turn around to change and don’t look back.”

“Heh, I might not be able to resist,” James chuckled.

“You dare?” A harsh glint suddenly flashed in Gina’s eyes, the authoritative air of a CEO bursting forth.

James grinned sheepishly and replied, “I wouldn’t dare, you’re the CEO after all,” then began to undress after turning around.

Gina hadn’t expected James to start undressing right away.

She quickly turned around; her parents were waiting outside, and it would have looked too fake if she and James didn’t go out together.

So, the plan was for both to change inside the room, but she was really not very sure about James.

She trusted that he wouldn’t do anything inappropriate, but she was certain he had the nerve to sneak a peek at her.

Climbing onto the bed, Gina pulled the blanket over her and began changing underneath.

However, since she wasn’t facing away from James, she ended up seeing him change his clothes.

She hadn’t intended to peek, but couldn’t help catching a few glimpses, which made her feel a bit nervous and embarrassed about these impulses, feeling quite ashamed.

Yet, she couldn’t deny that James’s back was rather impressive, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist—a description that could fit the phrase ‘broad shoulders and a wasp waist’.

Additionally, as James moved his arms, the muscles on his back became even more pronounced.

“I never realized, this guy really is quite sturdy…

but no good deeds in his past for sure, looking at all the scars on his back.

I can’t even count them all.”

“I’m going to take off my pants now,” James suddenly announced.

Gina jumped in surprise, quickly turning her head and spat, “Then go ahead.” Her heart pounded, wondering if James had realized she had been sneaking glances at him.

That would really be embarrassing, though she figured that probably wasn’t the case; he was just giving a normal reminder.

Despite reassuring herself internally, Gina still felt like she had been caught doing something naughty by James, and for the rest of the time changing, she kept her head tucked into the blanket to prevent James from noticing her peeking.

After changing, both wore form-fitting shirts which suddenly made James’s blood rush; Gina’s figure was perfectly showcased, highlighting curves and contours reinforced by the tight clothing.

Gina saw that James’s face grew stern and he startled, then cracked a smile and said, “You saw me bare, so me taking a couple of looks shouldn’t make you mad, right?”

“Ah!” Gina’s face instantly turned beet red, her fears confirmed—she had been caught peeking by James.
