The Stargazing Witch & The Dungeon Planet -
Chapter 16: Companion
Chapter 16: Companion
Power began to fill me.
[Primal Guardian Lord] for all intents and purposes acted as a second Vocation. A gift, with certain downsides compared to normal Vocations. Providing a large amount of physical strength, self-healing, and some mana. By human classification, it would be an Enhancer.
However, I only learned one skill from it, its levelling speed was greatly reduced when not ‘activated’ and its strengthening effect was also weakened–only providing 10% of its normal amount.
Fitting for a gift, that was also parasitic in nature.
(“ Hello Cel ”)
“Finally deciding to speak,” my voice cold as I respond to the voice within my head.
(“ Please. You’ve only activated the skill for knowingly short times. I’m not evil enough to distract you–under normal circumstances–from deactivating the skill ”)
Continually transitioning between masculine and feminine voice, and fading between high and low pitch–cycling between all four combinations.
Should I say thank you?
Level 299 | Awakened
Mana: 63% Starlight: 84%
Vocation: [Stargazer]
I checked my mana, and I was disappointed in myself. I used way too much when not needed.
I jumped forward. My fire-covered fist was aimed at the boss lady.
The armour the boss was wearing, glowed gold within its ridges. And a black blade magically appeared in her hand, which she used attempting to parry my attack.
Bang!
The force of my blow knocked the blade back.
“What!” Confused, she yelled. Of course she was, my strength was so much more now. Not only that but quite visible was the hole in my chest that was slowly repairing itself.
(“ Hmmehe. I see ”)
See what, Espoiramissa?
I didn’t know how exactly this mental split of Espoiramissa worked. But they have stuck to me ever since I got [Primal Guardian Lord], thanks to its gift as a part of our deal.
(“ My Cel, don’t worry, I’ll be holding back Primal Guardian Lord levelling ”)
What are you planning?
(“ I’m just trying to help out? ”)
… It was painful. I knew Espoiramissa didn't lie, but it was stressful dealing with them, knowing what they wanted.
(“ There’s a lot of trouble ahead ”)
I can see that? A burning building, multiple enemies and my sister missing. Yeah, that was a lot of trouble.
(“ Remember, even when you don’t activate this skill. I can still ‘see’ and ‘hear’ ”)
I’m in the middle of something, are you going to say something of importance?
It was weird knowing my every action was being stalked, but not much I could do about that. I summoned a spear of fire in my hand and launched it at the remaining goon.
(“ But I’ll say this, your sister is currently dying ”)
“START WITH THAT!” [Unleashed Awakening]!
I could feel my blood burning with magic and natural fury. The wound on my chest that was slowly healing, patched itself up quickly. My messy hair moved up as if it was alive, and my golden eyes glowed with ferocity.
Three pairs of horns emerged from my head, all a mix of pale white bone and birch coloured wood.
One pair grew from my forehead, reminiscent of devil horns. The second emerged a bit further up and stretched forward grabbing onto the first pair. The third pair emerged above my ears, curving forward and growing to the front of my head.
Then once all pairs appeared, they kept growing. Twisting around each other, until they finally formed a twisted pair of antlers.
I noticed the pest dodge my arrow, “Just die already!”
With my greater speed, I [Burst] over and grabbed the head of the pest.
Crushing their head with my grip. Cracking of metal and bone was heard as within a second, blood spurted over my hand as I popped his head like a grape. Burning away the blood using fire, I turned to my currently final adversary.
“...what are you?!” The lady’s eyes widened, and she stepped back.
“[Solar Rising].”
A beam of pure sun energy shot towards the lady who tried to dodge. As it neared, she disappeared into shadows, vanishing from sight before the beam blasted her completely.

[Unleashed Awakening] the second half of the gift. While [Primal Guardian Lord] was a skill, it also really wasn’t and instead just the packaging for the tumour attached to my soul.
[Unleashed Awakening] was its one and only true skill. When in use, I became greater in every way–physically, mana and body regeneration, my senses–the side effect was it increased the levelling speed of [Primal Guardian Lord], but at the moment I didn’t care about that. Especially since Espr ensured that they would hold back the levelling for the moment.
Where did she go?
(“ Far away, nearing the mall now actually ”)
I see. I’ll kill her later then.
“Now Espr,” I asked, “Where is my sister?”
(“ Where you thought. In the middle of the concert. First floor ”)
“Dammit! Can you keep track of her locations?” I flew into the air and I went toward the expanding hole in the centre of the mall.
(“ ‘Course. Unlike your skill. My ability to track and identify all life forms within my domain of sight isn’t blocked by objects ”)
Before I dived into the hole, “Wait, where is that woman?” I didn’t want to be jumped when I tried to rescue my sister. The shadow vanish and analyse skills were proof enough that she possessed an espionage-related Vocation. And many of those had good surprising attacking skills, not to mention any gear she might still possess.
Suddenly I felt a live feed appear in my mind, of the woman in an alley near the mall recovering. I didn’t think I did any reasonable damage to her. But the last-minute vanish might not have been perfect.
“Any other life in that area?”
(“ No human life, besides the woman ”)
Well, I said I’ll deal with her later, and later was now I guess. “Good, [Scorched Extinction].” I weakened the effect so that only one of seven balls of dark orange heat appeared. And tossed down in the area she was resting in.
CRASHH!!
A large pillar of fire was born into life before disappearing a few seconds later. I changed the properties of the flames so they wouldn’t spread further, even when they normally would.
Now that was done, “Show me where my sister is!” I demanded.
(“ Sure ”)
All that appeared in my mind was a pile of rubble with flames over it… and a hand and its forearm poking out with blood pouring through the cracks.
…Mella…
My heart ached and I dived into the hole as I did a large blast of sound pushed everything away. Knocking me back for a second.
What now!? The feed of my sister's location was still going through my head. And I saw how the sound pushed away part of the rubble covering her. Finally, her injured face was visible, and I could see her still breathing.
(“ An individual did a final attack before dying is all ”)
“No Boss!” I could hear the cry of the man's bandmate before the Dominous Hood members spoke to each other, due to a job well done.
“This has truly been a mess,” the Hood member who stabbed Aluber through the back with his ominously glowing sword sighed.
“Quiet, we have to get rid of the witnesses now. Regroup with group 2 and use the item to blow up this part of the city.” One of the other members shuts them up and glances over the nearby area.
The other Hood member nodded, speaking into his hood “Objective A1 complete proceeding wit–”
KILL!!
My foot landed upon the Hood member's face. The flame spouting from it burnt away my shoes and the blood as my strength crushed everything underneath.
“Unidentified hostile variable–” [Star Chaser]. Hundreds of small stars appear around me, catapulting themselves into the next closest member “–requesting bac–arGH!”
Rage filled my heart faster than I could handle it. Both skills due to not being naturally part of my soul heightened my emotional state, but didn’t matter. I was truly angry. My life, my family wouldn’t be safe, would it? Until I kill every one of these fucks!
(“ Even when angry. All those hundreds of stars were aimed at the weak points in the armour. Good job my Cel ”)
“Only talk when you have something useful!” I threw a [Star Lance] through the commander, and rushed over to my sister pulling her out of the rubble…
“Mella! Please be okay.”
