Chapter 65: A Boring Life

My name is Destiny, but people call me Moon around this place. I am a beast inside a human body, trying to regain my might as the King of Beast, though things haven’t been going to plan. For example, it’s been almost a week now, and the system has not spoken a word. Normally, I would be happy, but this meant that I have been stuck here with nothing to do. Well now that my body was on the verge of a complete recovery, I started my training. Eclipse also decided to help me out with training. Meanwhile, he couldn’t help me directly with my skill, I learned a thing or two about reserving my energy.

Using skills as a human is more draining than for a beast, maybe because we are born with them, and humans only really borrow them from their contracts, but I was exhausted after every training session. But, recently I have been starting to prolong the usage of my skill. So I can’t say Eclipse has been a bad teacher. He has also been hanging around often, now. But only because I have nothing else to do. I would be hanging out with a human noble, but at the same time,e I didn’t want to spend my whole days reading books again.

Anri is still mad at me. However, she has started to speak to me, even if it is just insults or a good morning. But at least she leaves me alone, unlike someone who has been spying on me since he learned the fact that and Eclipse have been together for more than we should normally be. Though I don’t know what that normal is for that guy. So yeah, recently I have had to deal with Dusk following me around too.

Now about my skill. I learned some niche things about it. I now know how to control whenever the world becomes one with me. I can even restrict it to one of my limbs. I have better control over nonliving objects, and of course, I don’t need my hands to use them. The main piece of the skill is the world bowing down at my feet, but the rest is just a better version of what it was. I do wish it made it easier for me to use it on living beings, but I can’t be greedy, can I?

Now, I have also started a new hobby to help me spend time when Eclipse is busy. I have started a journal, writing whatever comes to my mind every day. It has been a great way of stopping me from overthinking while training, as I write all my thoughts in here, then go train. But sure you already knew I had one, since... you the journal.

[...]

I sighed, closing the book containing part of myself. The thick but smooth cover rubbed against my pale skin. I hadn’t been outside in some time, but why had I turned so pale, that wasn’t normal. Well, it’s not like the food here is any good. Speaking of food, I was hungry.

I got up from my wooden seat. Stretching my body which has been stiff from writing in my journal for some time now. I walked over to the door, walking barefoot from the seat to the door. I raised my hand, placing it on the doorknob, and successfully unlocking it.

Walking over to the kitchen was a nightmare. There were still so many people even with the third game over. Since the system was taking so long, there hadn’t been an elimination round yet, so no one had been killed, making my immunity a little useless if I must say so myself.

Looking at it, my plan had completely failed. Even with the influence I gained from the elimination game, and my passive, I had still not gained one follower. Disappointing, it was nothing short of disappointing. But in life, you can win it all, can you?

As I opened the door to the kitchen, I found a familiar figure inside.

’Didn’t know the darkness could feel hungry with it eating the light all the time.’ I said smiling while walking over to grab something from the fridge. In the meantime, Dusk was looking at me with the same face as usual. One who wasn’t scared to hide the hate burning inside him for me. Which had only grown with my recent win.

Enough of Dusk. Did you know this fridge restocks every hour? Cool, right? It would have been better if it had been stocked with good food, though.

"Hilarious, Moon, but I do wonder what you’re doing here. " His sincere tone of confusion surprised me. Well, I didn’t quite understand the question either, but still. ’What am I doing here? Grabbing something to eat?’

"But it’s daytime, shouldn’t you only be up when its night time?" Really, I didn’t know how I didn’t see this coming. It was too predictable, yet I had completely ignored this possibility. Also, how did he know it was not nighttime? There aren’t windows in this place, and no clock works so we have no way of telling the time. Meaning that it could actually be nighttime without us knowing.

I grabbed a towel from the table and threw it on Dusk’s face. ’There, it’s nighttime.’ Take that you bastard, my perfect revenge... by how we are acting you can guess we are tired of being trapped in this place with no news from this system.

I didn’t expect to have such a calm conversation with Dusk after the whole thing about my identity being stolen by The Core. But I do wonder what would have happened if he had remembered who I was. Would it have changed the outcome of the games completely, or would it have remained the exact same?

I usually try to stay away from topics like this, but I just couldn’t escape this thought. Truly, with how many times my passive of defying fate had activated, I don’t know how many times I had changed paths. Fate must not be happy, but who cares, I don’t walk on the road planned by it anymore, so I can’t be bothered by it. Well not directly at least...

[The rules of the scenario have changed. Instead of there being six games, there will be only four, meaning this is the last one, which is starting in ten seconds.]

I gazed at Dusk with the side of my eyes, who after hearing the message just continued preparing his food. He didn’t look bothered at all, who was though, everyone else in the game, as from all the way in the kitchen, I could hear the panic from although the house.

But I did understand their panic, after all, ten seconds isn’t a lot of time to get ready for a game that will decide anything. This will be a massacre. We’re still over one hundred people here, and there have to be only fifty at the end. Thought what I did wonder was how the game was going to do this. Was it going to finish it quickly, trying not to lose the remaining audience, or was going to risk it and try regaining a larger viewership? Knowing the system, the runner-up was the correct answer.

Soon enough, a bright flame enveloped us. The same white flame from whenever we entered The Core. ’So this is how the system moves us around.’ But since we hadn’t seen this before, there was definitely something bigger at the end of the path of flames. Something bigger, and more dangerous than all of the others combined.

’So the system hasn’t been slacking off like I thought. Interesting.’ I said clearly amused by how it was going to keep the audience watching. Though I didn’t understand why, I didn’t gain anything from it. It was another one of those cases where it acted more like a human, and in this case, like a child.

[You know... the system can hear you.]

’Oh, I know you do. It’s just... it isn’t like I didn’t want you to hear it.’ And with these human characteristics meant that I could easily anger it, which was absolutely hilarious, even funnier than doing it a human or beast.

Beast.... wait a minute. I had completely forgotten! I got caught up with my skill evolving and Eclipse that I overlooked the fact that if the beast is able to infiltrate the top fifty we all die!

This was bad, really bad. Not only because I had forgotten about it, but that I probably wasn’t the only one. As much as I hated to say it, Dusk and I share some qualities, one being that we don’t like losing to one another, so he two probably forgot about it. And I don’t expect Anri or Eclipse to have figured it out.

Leaving only one that could have done it. ’Ashten Boyle...’ I hated that name with my whole soul.
